What started out as a simple battery replacement to stop a "chirping" fire alarm battery, turned into a complete replacement of all the fire alarms in my home. The previous fire alarms were original to the house. It is recommended that the complete alarm be replaced every ten (10) years. Mine were closer to thirteen (13).
Realizing I was unlikely to find an exact replacement for the original, I was at least hoping to find an alarm that shared the same wiring harness. I was hoping to avoid having to re-wire all of the alarms. The thought of standing on a ladder working overhead while I re-wired was not how I wanted to spend my vacation. Fortunately, this alarm was advertised as having adapters that were compatible with the most common alarm manufactures. Being a little skeptical, I purchased one (1) alarm to make sure it was in fact compatible with my original equipment. I was pleasantly suprised to find that one (1) of the two (2) supplied adapters was an exact match. The installation was a snap and I quickly returned to Home Depot to purchase enough alarms to change the remaining alarms in my home.
Another benefit with these alarms compared to the ones these replaced is the front loading battery compartment. It makes new battery installation a breeze. Why other manufactures have not adopted this design is beyond me. The new alarms have now been installed for over a month. I have not had any problems. I am confident that they will require little to no maintenance other than battery replacement and I expect to get ten (10) years of service out of them. Buy with confidence. Great product.
I bought this 2 years ago and it started giving false alarms. The first time was during the day which was just annoying. The second and third times it happened during the night waking us all up. I have other Kidde alarms, #1276 for many years and they seem to be fine. I will try to get that model as a replacement for this one. I would NOT recommend this model. Also, their warranty is practically worthless as the cost of shipping (and return shipping which the consumer has to pay) is almost as much as the cost of the detector.

Verified Purchase & Recommended Product
I have had these smoke detectors for a couple of weeks now. I had to use one of the adapters to hook it up to the exiting wire system.
I like that the batter is easily accessible and doesn't involve a lot of effort like my old detectors did.

I have 6 Model 1276's in my house built 11 years ago. Lately, I have have a few "wake up" calls early in the morning by these devices. They really do a good job waking everyone up, which is really important in the big picture. Realizing now that they have to be replaced every 10 years, I have come to this model i12060 after reading several reviews. Some of the questions I have came across is, "Is this a good replacement for the 1276?". So to clear that question up, I just replaced one of my detectors with this model i12060 without any problems. I will now go purchase replacements for the rest in my house.
Good Item: Kidde Hardwire Interconnectable 120-Volt Smoke Alarm With Battery Backup
May 25, 2014
I purchased 5 of these smoke detectors in May 2014 to replace old, non-functioning BRK detectors. Installation was quicker than I thought it would be since I didn’t have to rewire anything. However, I did have some difficulty with all of the BRK adapter plugs. The adapter plugs were hard to press into position but I managed to get the job done. Make sure you read and understand the instructions. All you need is a finger push to open the battery compartment for battery replacement. Just make sure you have a replacement available when the time comes since the compartment door can’t be closed without a battery installed (backup safety feature since these are hard wired smoke detectors). The smoke detectors also have an illuminated green LED to indicate they have power and every 8 to 10 minutes, it flashes red once to show that everything is working properly. The detectors also have a mute function that you can depress to silence the alarm if it goes off inadvertently. While in mute status, the green LED will still be illuminated to indicate the detector is working but the red LED will now flash once every 35 to 40 seconds as a reminder until it’s removed from mute status.
After a month, the smoke detectors are still functioning flawlessly. I have no complaints and feel safer knowing that I have working smoke detectors.
Compact, Clear Instructions, Stylish, Nice Design, Easy Replacement, Easy Installation
adapter plug can be difficult to install
I bought and installed this alarm yesterday and about 12 hours later in the middle of the night it started chirping. I am going to try what another reviewer wrote about stopping the chirp. The instructions only say it would be a low battery. They need better instructions. Since it is a brand new unit, I would think the battery would be good. I hope what he said works because I hate being jolted out of bed in the middle of the night. It is frightening.
This product works great. LIke the quality of material and easy access battery door. Don't have to pull it off the wall or ceiling to change the battery. Works well with my KiddeHardwire Interconnectable 120 bolt Auxiliary Strobe Device.
