We have had Scotsman and u-line icemakers and this one seems to be a much better unit. Does not make as much noise as the others, and makes ice quicker. The small cubes are clear and looks like commercial ice. We like it.
No idea on long term reliability as it is just a few days since install.
Has a built in filter which is nice and the filter is accessed thru the front door. Very easy to get to. But you have to buy a filter for 50 bucks as it does not come with a filter.

We love our ice maker, other than the constant buildup of black and red mold in the back of the unit where you are unable to reach it. When we had a repairman out for a separate issue (that was taken care of under warranty), he indicated ours was cleaner than most and that there's no way to clean it other than by completely disassembling the unit. He tried to convince us that it doesn't touch the ice, but during the cleaning process today, it's clear the mold is spreading to areas touched by water/ice. I live in a very dry state with no added humidity in the air and the mold formed before the first cleaning cycle, and we run the cleaning solution through it more frequently than recommended. I've had the unit for almost three years now and love the ice, but am concerned about the health effects of ingesting moldy ice.

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) This is my second KitchenAid under-counter ice machine. My first KitchenAid ice machine lasted 17 years. When my original ice machine gave up the ghost I began searching for a replacement. I needed a 15" under-counter ice machine with a stainless steel door and a gravity drain. I looked at all makes and models and found KitchenAid, again, looked like the best option. However, the website makes it difficult to find the gravity drain. Finally I went into a retail location. A sales rep helped me find what I needed. The new ice machine has improvements over my old ice machine, like a built-in water filter. I'm looking forward to 17+ years of filtered ice from my new KitchenAid under counter ice machine. This is my favorite appliance in my kitchen.

We are a 41 unit condominium with a social room as part of our common area. Many types of activities by the unit owners require ice for their gatherings. This KitchenAid product fits the profile our home owners wanted. Our Association ordered this ice maker from Home Depot over the internet, fast delivery from their warehouse our building manager had this installed using only a few tools. Great features are the fast turn around time for replenishing ice, the lighted interior is a great asset for this machine and not to mention a holder the the over-sized ice scoop. 41 happy condo owners......................................................

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Makes plenty of ice. Make sure you install it with enough open space to vent heat coming from back of machine. Even then it heats the granite of the countertop above it. Wish it was easier to clean. I am building a new house and plan to buy same brand for next house.
