(What's this)
Klein Tools has made an easy to use tool with this dual range non-contact voltage tester with laser pointer. It requires two AAA batteries (included), which I prefer over the CR-watch style, button batteries, has a handy pocket clip, and a laser pointer. The laser pointer has good distance under the right lighting conditions and I can see how it would be useful on a job site. Dual modes are handy and I predominantly use Mode 2 since it has a wider range. The tones/alerts are easy to understand, and so far I’ve used it to test for voltage in Romex, find the load wire in a switch box, and determine the hot and neutral sides of an outlet among other things. I’ve also used it to crudely trace wires in walls although wall thickness made it difficult at times. My only issues with this are that I found it to be fussy with light switches unless I removed the face plates and it doesn’t detect voltage in metal clad wiring. That could be confusing to some. The tester did work with standard outlets and GFCI outlets in most cases, including those that were Tamper Resistant (TR) and Weather Resistant (WR). A few other features I like are: 1) silent operation, so the tool can be used without beeps; and 2) Auto shutoff after 4 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery. Overall, I like this non-contact voltage tester.

This is an easy to use, non-contact AC voltage tester. Just get it near a power outlet and it will beep & illuminate to let you know the outlet (or wire) is hot. Features I like: - The laser pointer is quite bright, even at long distances. I pointed it at my neighbors garage across the cul-de-sac and it was easy to see (at night). - Two voltage ranges: 12 to 1000 VAC and 70 to 1000VAC. The lower voltage range makes it useful for working with things like low-voltage landscape lights etc. - It has a strong pocket clip. It stays in your pocket even if you bend over to look at a wall socket before testing, or to pickup something on the floor - "O" ring seal for battery compartment (AAA) - Auto-shutoff after 4 minutes to save battery power Key Specs: - It runs on two AAA batteries - Test voltages: 12 to 1000 VAC and 70 to 1000VAC. - Frequency range : 50 to 500 Hz - Laser: 630-670 nm. Less than 5mW Power Great product. Simple to use.

I really like this voltage tester from Klein. I've seen guys use this tester on job sites, but the one I have used for years it a "Contact" type where the leads need to be in contact with the power in order to register a positive reading (light up the test light). This one only needs to be close and the audible beep is a nice addition. It takes normal style batteries size AAA which is important to me - I don't buy anything that takes specialized batteries as I find them to be expensive and I can't keep them in stock.

Power testers have never been this easier to use or as accurate. This tester has two voltage ranges: 12 -1000V indicated by a blue LED and 70-100 V with a red LED. There also is a built in laser pointer activated by a separate button, a convenient way to indicate something to a client. All this is built into a convenient package equipped with a clip for holding in an apron or pocket.

Klein Tools Dual Range Non Contact Voltage Tester. Saving your fingers from getting fried or the shock of your life couldn’t be easier. This compact tester is so easy to use, one push of button you’re in normal setting 70-1000 volts , another push and you’re at 12-1000. It’s simple, safe (no contract with live wires necessary, just get pointer close) and straight forward operation. Runs on two standard AAA batteries so you never have to run outta juice. Bonus. It has very sharp laser pointer and even bette, auto shut in 4 minutes if you forget and stick it in you pocket and walk away. Note the picture, red glow indicates hotwire so you cant miss it.

The Klein Tools Dual Range, 12 to 1000 Volts and 70 to 1000 Volts, Non-Contact Voltage Tester With Laser arrived well packaged in its own blister pak inside a padded envelope. It is a one piece tester with the two AAA batteries included. I selected it because of the name Klein. I like the lower 12 to 1000 volt green LED light that turns red when voltage is detected in that range. The specific feature is the auto shut off in case I forget. I use it to confirm live voltage on many different circuits. The product quality is excellent. It's very easy to use. IIt's working out as planned and I like it a lot.

A very handy item to keep with my electrical tools. With the dual range going down to 12V AC on the lower range setting you can check a lot of other devices, including door bells, ringer buttons, and computer peripherals. It even comes complete with the two AA size batteries, already installed. While the higher range can detect current on most any other devices, from standard outlets to wiring on 220V water heaters. The contact tip is very convenient when you’re working by yourself. You can push it into an outlet and go to the breaker box, if it’s relatively close. When you cut off the right breaker, the beeping will cease and you know that the power is off at your work point. The higher range will flash a red light and the low range will flash a blue light when AC voltage is detected within those ranges. As far as the laser pointer, I’m not so enthusiastic. I would be more comfortable having an LED light that would definitely be helpful when checking outlets or devices in hard to see places. Overall, it performs beautifully, as my other Klein tools.

(What's this)
It is a good tester, especially for its entry point pricing. Easy to use, there are two voltage settings. One is for low voltage; one is for high voltage. It is a non-contact tester meaning all you need do is have it near a wire or outlet to sense voltage. The tip lights up, and there is an audible sensor. Wires do not have to be cut open nor metal exposed for the tester to work. I used it to check the presence of voltage in an outlet; then I traced a wire's run through a wall. The test seems sensitive, almost too sensitive, and it works equally well on low or high voltage. There is a laser pointer which I imagine is for professionals on the job to be able to point at something out of their reach to show a conduit, wire, or something of interest to a peer. It is six inches long and about an inch wide. It has a clip, seems almost pencil-like but of course it is bulkier. It runs on 2 AAA batteries. You may not need to change batteries often as the tester has an auto-shutoff feature after a period of non-use. You can also hold down the NCV button for about five seconds and it will turn the tester off. It seems pretty sturdy, rated for an almost ten foot drop if someone lets it go while on a ladder. The tip lights us clearly when voltage is sensed as being present. I like it. It is a Klein and all my Klein tools have served me well. For what it does, I like it. I recommend it.

(What's this)
Simple and good non-contact voltage tester with a handy laser pointer added. At the end of this review is an overview/demonstration video I made. This voltage tester is easy to use and has a dual range. This tester can detect if an outlet or circuit is live without exposing wiring. Using it is simple, turn it on and set your voltage range then wave the tester around the switch, outlet, junction box, wire etc. I ran into some issues where the 7 to 1000 volt range does not work on every 120v outlet/circuit I tested, the reason for 4 stars. See the video Voltage can be either 12 - 1000 (low voltage wiring) or 70 - 1000 (standard 120v and up). A blue light generally means low voltage and red means high voltage. On the 12 - 1000 setting you can get both blue and red lights. When testing a 120v outlet, I find the blue light can come on when I am just 10" or so away from it, that setting is very sensitive. I have a few 120v outlet in my house that is hard to test with these and only low voltage will test it, so I generally just keep low voltage on. You can of course take the covers off the outlets and test the wire screws but I was surprised by the inconsistency. This will also detect a live wire by holding it near the wire or circuit. I could not get it to work on aluminum armored cable wire (MC lite) though. The laser pointer is great and works at least 50 feet across my house. This is a handy extra for the tester as laser pointers are great during home inspections or when on the job. The voltage tester is durable (rated for a near 10 foot drop) and has a clip for easy carrying in a pocket. It takes two AAA batteries, which the device comes with. Lights warn you when the battery is low and it will shut off automatically with about a minute of inactivity. This voltage tester is made in China.

(What's this)
Easy to use, but very sensitive on the lower range. This little gadget is easy to use, with a simple two-button interface. Once you switch it on, it goes into one of two ranges: 70 VAC to 1000 VAC or 12 VAC to 1000VAC. Pressing the button again switches it to the other range, and holding the button down turns the device off. The instructions say that it will not work if the user is well insulated from the floor, or if the current present is DC current. I found this not to be true. When I place it in the 12 V to 1000V range, it alerts with a beeping tone and blue LED, on almost any electrical device, even my DC powered computer keyboard, a USB cable (5V DC) and my desk phone which is also powered with DC power. When placed into the higher range (70V to 1000V) it alerts on any 120 VAC cables that are on with a continuous tone and red LED. If the cable is off, I get small beeps as I move it rapidly nearby. The other button turns a red laser pointer on while you hold the button down. Holding the power-on button for 2s will turn it on in quiet mode without beeps. It takes two AAA batteries and two alkaline ones are supplied with it, but I would not expect them to last too long. The packaging had a recycling mark (3) on it which is a good sign. The instructions are in (good) English, Spanish and French. Made in China
