I got this counter depth, Wi-Fi enabled, French door style, “Smart” refrigerator to replace a full-depth GE refrigerator I purchased 25 years ago. Although the GE refrigerator was still working perfectly with no problems, I decided to get this counter-depth model to increase the walkway area in front of the refrigerator and increase the workspace in my kitchen. This LG refrigerator is about 3 inches less deep than my old refrigerator, and I am pleased that this additional 3 inches or so of walkway space is surprisingly noticeable. It definitely improves the look of the kitchen. I like the refrigerator's interior layout, and it is very easy to find items amongst a crowded shelf. I especially like the ice and cold water dispenser. A highly promoted of this refrigerator is that it is “smart.” There’s no accepted standard for what qualifies an appliance as “smart,” but I think a baseline qualification is that the appliance should be able to monitor its operation and to 1) take action when a fault occurs or 2) notify me of the fault condition. This refrigerator has the typical door open alarm and low-temperature warnings alarms, plus a multitude of functions that are enabled by its (optional) connection to the internet via WiFi. To access most of the functions I had to install the Smart ThinQ app on my smart phone. I’ve had the refrigerator for about a week and I’ve experimented with all the functions. There is only one function that I find particularly valuable, and that is the one that can notify you if one of the doors remains open for more than 10 minutes. It’s possible that the Smart Diagnosis function, which provides useful information for diagnosing and solving issues with the refrigerator, could come in handy someday, although there’s a alternative method for sending the same information to the LG Customer Information Center that requires only a phone. I think it’s important to know that the refrigerator uses your home Wi-Fi network to connect to a server managed by LG or perhaps a third-party. The communication between the Smart ThinQ app on your phone and the refrigerator is accomplished through this server, which has direct access to your home Wi-Fi via the refrigerator. I have no idea where this server is located or even its IP address. If you think this could be a security risk for your home network, you might be right. The refrigerator was manufactured in China.

Pros Good Size & Weight, Lots of Features, Nice Design, Stylish, Quiet Cons owner's manual just over 200 pages and bulky, security of wifi connection is uncertain

Lots of room, dual ice makers, absolutely beautiful finish. This is a replacement for an older, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. This one has French doors which either one or both open to a spacious refrigerator, allowing storage of large items (e.g. leftovers from special occasion family dinners). The temperature is consistent throughout (no hot/cold spots). I really like the dual ice makers, a smaller one in the door is adequate for day to day use, but the additional one in the freezer compartment has a large ice bin, which is great when ice consumption is high during parties, etc. The shelves are adjustable. The bins in the door are two sizes, narrow on one side (suitable for single row items), whereas the bins in the other door are twice the depth suitable for larger items or double row items. The main compartment has separate drawers for more delicate items such as fruit/veggies/deli meats, etc. I really like the ability to "lock" the front touch screen/water dispenser. Two year olds love to run the water onto the floor, no problem, lock the panel and no more water on the floor. I really like this refrigerator, lots of room, nicely designed and looks modern and stylish.

Pros Durable, Easy to Clean, Easy to Install, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight, High Quality, Looks Great, Lots of Features, Nice Design, Sturdy, Stylish

OMG, this was a very pretty unit for the first few years, but we did have problems in the beginning. They replaced some part early, and also replaced the front panel of the freezer because of condensation. I'm about 45 minutes into yet another call to LG, which gave me time to stew about this and write this review. Our freezer went out around the first of August 2019...in TEXAS. We kinda need ice and cold stuff this time of year! I called LG, after all, they claim to have outstanding customer service. I can tell you they do NOT. The first available service appointment was almost a month away, and they want to charge a $129 dispatch fee that is NOT applied to your repair. Good thing they pushed back on the date, because it prompted me to Google, finding out that there have been TWO class action lawsuits against LG for the linear compressor on this refrigerator. We called another LG-authorized service company in Austin which misdiagnosed a defroster problem. Now we're out $430 for a repair that didn't fix the problem. Our fridge is at 63°F in the fridge and 33°F in the freezer. They told us it was a "good thing it wasn't the compressor" because that would be a $1200 REPAIR and they can't even get the compressors from LG, even though they are an authorized LG repair provider. LG is NO HELP WHATSOEVER, and now that I told them we had another repair company come to do what they should be doing, they're now acting like I need to deal with that company instead of LG directly. Oh, and that Wifi Smart app that will diagnose your unit? Nope, I was told that it's been "down for weeks" and they can't do that, either. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. We spent $3800 on this one exact refrigerator, and regret it. We've now been without a refrigerator for three weeks, with no end in sight, and dining out is costing us $50 a day while we wait it out.

A beautiful addition to a kitchen makeover. This replaces a rather large side by side 10 year old refrigerator that still works fine but was getting stale style wise and a bit obtrusive in its designated space. The counter depth of this LG helps balance out the "feel" of the kitchen area so much better. The front stainless steel finish is gorgeous (the sides are simply painted a medium gray but still complimentary for those like me that have one side exposed). Stainless steel comes in many different types of alloys (different alloy metals allow for different desired properties such as corrosion resistant, tensile strength, appearance etc.) used to create it and this one allows for the use of magnets for those concerned about such things. This machine is super quiet in operation (with the exception when it drops ice cubes into the freezer located basket) while the older one would occasionally "growl" like an injured cat. The jury is still out on the freezer compartment which is basket style opposed to the shelves in the side by side... it holds more volume but I kinda miss the organization the shelves provided. Now I just have to decide where to put the cake that I may or may not want to eat when the time comes to test the time honored philosophical challenge

Today we had to toss a fridge and freezer full of food because the compressor went out on our four-year old LG fridge. It's July 24th, and the first date for service on this unit is August 9th. A beautiful machine but not having much confidence in its quality and LG service. In the end service and reliability is what matters most. Appropriately disappointed.

I am giddy over this fridge. I live in south florida and we use ice like it's going out of style. Having the dual ice makers has been a dream. We threw a sizeable dinner party and never ran out of ice. Plus, it's pretty and even though it's counter-depth there is plenty of room.

Please save yourself time and trouble and skip on the LG brand. They have a known issue with the refrigerator compressors and most technicians will not service this brand anymore. Our compressor has gone out and we have now been without a refrigerator for over a month. We have had to spend hours on the phone to find a technician who will service. There is also a class action lawsuit against LG regarding the compressor issue you should research.

I've only had this refrigerator one week, but so far, it's amazing! It's very quiet. The counter depth size gives me more room in the kitchen, which is a nice thing in the smallish kitchen I have. The temperature inside appears to be quite consistent throughout, probably due to the reduced depth. Lighting is excellent in both the refrigerator section and the freezer section. I like how the freezer drawer has compartments, plus an extra ice maker and large storage bucket. Fingerprints just wipe right off. I haven't tried any wifi features yet. Overall, this LG seems to be well made, has great features, and keeps food at the right temperature.

We looked high and low for a counter depth with 2 ice makers by a highly rated manufacturer. This was the only solution we found and nobody could get it. Then Home Depot to the rescue. Took a couple of weeks to order but delivered on schedule and works perfect.
