Works well. Does not need a neutral to operate but does need a ground or it will not function. Very pleased with the responsiveness of the switch in my basement work area. You can turn it off manually or let it time out in a predetermined (adjustable) time. Meets my expectations.

Works well on 3-way switches. Only product I could find that can be used in pairs on a two switches in different ends of the same room controlling one light. I tried screw in bulb sensors that were finicky, these are working very well. The wiring is little different than conventional 3-way switch wiring, the switch only has 2 wires compared to the 3-wires a conventional 3-way switch but it works.

Very easy to hook up and the range is adjustable. This unit is perfect for me as it senses my movement from 25 feet away and that is what I wanted. The built in light sensor doesn’t seem to work to well. The three adjustment screws have no feeling when you turn them makes me wonder if they are r

Perfect for initial entry into home
Very happy with this product - we normally come in our house through the garage and there's a light switch facing the door about 3 feet in from where we walk through. Normally this switch is kept off, however it can be very dark there at night. This sensor has functioned perfectly by immediately recognizing motion through the door and lighting the way. Very convenient when we're carrying something and you don't have a free hand. We're using it to control two lights on that circuit, both are LED fixtures. It is normally in the shadows even during the day so the light now switches on most times of day when we come through, but because it's controlling LED lights I don't worry about the extra usage. I only need it to sense motion within a few feet, so I can't comment on range, but for my purposes it has worked great.

I installed this decora motion sensor switch in my garage to automatically turn the lights on when I drive into the garage and then off a few minutes after I get into the house. It took time to adjust it properly. I had to reduce the sensor range because it sensed motion outside an adjacent window.

As one other reviewer noted, the lights come on no matter how bright or dark the room. I've adjusted the photocell from fully CCW to fully CW and it makes no difference. Returned it and got another one and experienced the same problem. I called Leviton technical support and they said I could send the sensor back to them, at my cost, and they would take a look at it - NOT. I have installed other sensors in my house and they work perfectly. Leviton has a serious quality control issue.

    Leviton Decora 120v - 277v motion sensor
The switch was easy to install and instructions were fairly easy to understand. Adjusted the sensors to their maximum. Used in a commercial setting where traffic is light to medium. It activates when someome walks in the door next to the switch or the door 10 - 15 feet away. Exactly what was needed! Thanks H.D., Rob

    HIGH QUALITY VERSATILE SWITCH
This review is about the Leviton Decora Auto-On Motion Sensor Model ODS10. I include the model number because Leviton manufacturers different models of sensor switches and this model is designed to handle many different types of bulbs and fixtures and is rated for both commercial and residential use. Too many home owners purchase under-rated, less expensive switches and are left puzzled as to why the switches don’t perform as expected. This switch can be used with LED fixtures up to 800W, and incandescent fixtures up to 1200VA. In addition to the above it can manage halogen bulbs, fluorescent fixtures with magnetic ballasts, and up to a 1/4 HP motor. In other words, this model should handle any electrical circuit found in the typical home, especially bath areas with large strings of lights and exhaust fans. The switch is not inexpensive but the power cost savings is well worth the investment in a quality switch. One would expect a switch of this quality to be difficult to install but just the opposite is true. The directions are clear and easy to follow and the switch comes prewired and pre-stripped so installation is reduced to simply connecting three wires. I took about 10 minutes to complete the entire installation – removing the switch plate, removing the old switch, wiring in the new switch, and replacing the switch plate. One benefit of this switch is that it can be used in either single or multiple gang boxes. Its motion detection is perfect and the detection range can be adjusted to suit all needs through the use of “blinders” accessed via the front control panel. The sensitivity can be set for daylight/ambient light so that when sufficient natural light is available the switch will not turn on. The time delay for the light to turn off when motion cannot be sensed can be set from as little as 10 minutes to as much as 30 minutes. It comes preset to 10 minutes and I found this setting to work well for me as I sometimes need to walk in and out of my work room for periods of time less than 10 minutes. The switch uses passive infrared so that as long as it senses one’s body heat it will stay on. The switch also can be manually turned on and off at any time without distributing its auto mode. I strongly recommend this switch.

    Don't realize how convient till....
Yes, I didn't realize the convenience till I installed this motion sensor switch. Lots of features for what was once a just simple "thing". Package arrived quickly, instructions are clearly written and understandable. [print could be larger] I installed mine in my laundry room in less than 20 minutes. The features are many. It can be used like any ordinary light switch off/on or as a motion switch. What I like is the light will turn on when my arms are full. the light will switch off after I leave the room OR I can switch off when I leave AND I don't have to reset it. The switch will return itself back to motion. The timer can be set to turn off at 3 different lengths of time. This switch will operate with different light levels of the room. ex; if you don't want the light to operate during the day when there's plenty of light coming in it can be set Not to come on with the Ambient dial, There's a within range and sensitivity dial so it can be set to not turn on for animals. So much to detail in this small package!

Best motion switch I've installed so far
Hands down, this is the best motion sensor I have installed to date. The manual push button is nice and chunky with a raised bump so you can feel for it around a corner. I've installed it in my barn for two reasons: 1) It can handle up to 800W / 1200VA of lighting load! Let me repeat that... 800W... as in THIRTEEN light fixtures (assuming sixty watt bulb). It's powering 6 florescent overhead fixtures with no issues at all. 2) the motion sensor sensor covers 2100 square feet!! That's a HUGE number for a motion detector! My barn is 40x60 (so 2400 square feet) and it has had no issue detecting me all the way in the corner. It has some great adjustments that are very easy to make under the cover panel. 1) Blinders can be cranked up or down on both sides to change the angle it can see. 2) Ambient light sensor can be dialed up or down to control when it turns on and when it let's daylight do it's thing. Adjusting that is real easy, turn it all the way down... then slowly turn it up until the lights come on... that's the current daylight level. Then you just bump it up or down accordingly, or re-do it later in the day when there's less daylight. 3) The time the lights stay on is adjustable from 10m to 30m by just rotating a dial. Install was easy, black to hot, blue to load, green to ground... DONE. As the motion detectors inside the house fail, or more are needed, I'm going to use these instead - they're a winner.

Well designed sensor with many options
Leviton makes a number of different motion sensor light switches for different applications. So many in fact, that it is wise to get at list of the various models to determine which is best for your purpose. This particular sensor has the following on/off features: 1) Auto-on with motion or manual-on push button switch. 2) Auto-off after a pre-selected time of no motion or manual-off push button switch (time options are 10, 20 or 30 minutes). 3) Manual off will remain off regardless of motion for the same pre-selected time that it remains on after no motion is detected. This feature is nice if you want the lights off in a room that is occupied. For example when showing a video. 4) Option of manual-on only (regardless of motion) with automatic off when no motion is detected. Besides these options, there are several adjustments that can be made for motion detection. One is sensitivity, which increases or reduces the range or distance where motion is detected, and the others are small internal blinders that will shield the detector from detection motion from either the right or the left (or both). Sort of like holding your hands to the side of your eyes to keep from seeing to the edge. The last feature is the ability to detect ambient light in the room (like a window) and NOT turn on if the light level is already sufficient. This feature is also adjustable. This model works with up to 800 watt LED or incandescent lighting, or fluorescent lights up to 1200 VA, and small motor loads up to 1/4 HP. Other models have different ratings. In my case I installed the sensor in a laundry room that gets a lot of in-and-out traffic throughout the day. Sometimes there is someone in the room for 10 or 15 minutes and sometimes only for a minute. Rarely did the lights ever get turned off through the course of the day, with the user probably thinking that they would be returning shortly (but of course not doing so). This sensor fit the situation perfectly, since it replaced an existing switch, which was wired by being fed from the fixture, so there was no neutral wire. This switch does not require a neutral for operation (some do, depending on the model), but it does need a ground for proper operation. I have it adjusted to turn on automatically with medium sensitivity and turn off automatically after 10 minutes of no activity. So far the sensor has been working well, probably reducing the “on” time of the lights by 50 percent. There are a couple of minor glitches, but I would not call them problems, since I have no doubt that they will disappear shortly. First, the normal users of the room instinctively reach for the toggle switch in the dark and swipe their hand up the wall. Of course there is no toggle there any more, but I am hoping that they get used to the new sensor before damaging it by slapping it too hard. Second, I have noticed a few times that the lights go on when there is no one entering the room. I suspect that the sensor is detecting heat from the washer or dryer as motion and turning on. I am sure that a slight adjustment to either the blinders or the range control will eliminate this issue. Third, the body of the sensor is physically large. Much larger than the old toggle switch, and with my existing electrical box, it was a bit of a challenge to fit it in with all of the existing wiring. I did manage to do this without cramming or jamming anything too much, but it may be an issue for some older type electrical boxes. The solution would be to replace the box with a new larger one (sometimes a major undertaking) or use a surface extension like those made by Wiremold. In summary, I am satisfied with this sensor and it’s operation and may install them in other locations in the house. I would strongly suggest checking visiting the Leviton website to determine what model would best suit your needs before purchasing.

    Great Energy Saver
This switch works great and is highly customizable. It's not cheap, but will save money over the long haul because you'll never leave the lights on again for days as we sometime would in our basement. I've changed over to almost all cfl's and this switch works perfect with them. You can adjust how long the lights stay on after sensing no motion, we chose 10 minutes; and you can set how wide the field of 'vision' is so only someone coming in the door will affect it and not some bush moving in the wind outside a window (for example). Highly recommended.

    did not work
Obviously I got a defective one, but it had no directions inside, which makes me thin it had already been returned. The Home Depot should be more careful about putting items back on the shelf after they've been returned. I knew it was wired correctly, but it didn't work. I returned it and bout a different brand (Lutron), which worked fine.

      Perfect for attic
We decided to use the Occupancy PIR Sensor for our attic as I keep forgetting to turn off the light in the attic when done. It has a 30-second timeout setting which works perfectly for me. The sensor is very effective in it's current location and more than makes up for my forgetfulness. We will be getting another one for our laundry area too as it works great.
