My wife and I purchased our new home just about 14 years ago. After the initial shock of signing all the paperwork and such the reality of occupying the house comes into focus. All of us get dazzled by the decorating of the model homes and when you walk into your new home for the first time what a shock. With the exception of any upgrades, you have ordered you are faced with a pretty vanilla house, builder white walls, baseboards, and plain cabinets. After the reality sets in, it’s time to get to work painting walls, baseboards, hanging ceiling fans and adding tasteful accents that truly make that new house your home. When it comes to trends, my wife and I try to not rely so much on what has been “in” for the last couple of years but strike out in new directions. When we were young, we tended to shop for rooms of furniture at a time, with all the pieces matching. Over the years we have developed a taste for a modern, contemporary minimalist look. We like the clean lines and definitely subscribe to the less is more approach. We also like to add pieces on an individual basis rather than rooms at a time. The way we at least give the appearance that we have decorated over time with a more homely effect. This all leads up one of the more important elements of decorating, but also the hardest (at least for my wife and me) is pulls and handles throughout the home. First time around we settled on a particular style and used it throughout the entire house. It worked well for a while, but over time the appeal has worn off. They were functional but did not actually add to the pieces, rather it is cabinets in the kitchen, entertainment center in the great room or bathrooms. We wanted to add something that would attract attention and add to the overall feel of the room. After spending a considerable amount of time researching dozens of options we were able to narrow our search down to the Liberty family of pulls and handles sold through Home Depot. Our criteria were simple, we wanted something that was bold, leading edge and of high-end quality. Our kitchen has cherry cabinets with a dark black cherry finish. We selected Liberties Essentials 5-1/16 in. Wrapped Flat Black Bar Drawer Pull for both the drawers and cabinet doors. The fit and finish on these pulls are outstanding. The weight is outstanding, machining very precise, with no ragged or unfinished edges. The color applications are fantastic. It appears to be an integral part of the pull and not just painted. They come with an 8X32 tapped insert that has very clean threads. The pulls also accommodate a fairly long machine screw, which I find to be a plus. Although the pulls do not come with accompanying machine screws I did not find that to be a problem. Draw thickness varies and I’ve found more times than not that I end of buying either longer or shorter machine screws for my application. The length of the pulls is perfect for inserting your fingers for a solid grip and the depth provides plenty of space to avoid scratching the drawer/door surface.
