I took off the old spout and tried to install this one. It would not push back to the wall. It reached a hard stop about 1/4" from the wall. So, I called Moen support and they could not tell me the length that the copper tubing should extend from the wall. He recommended that I cut off 1/4" of the copper pipe. Well, NO, I am not going to do that unless absolutely necessary.
One more thing. This spout was delivered in a generic Moen box that was way too big for it. It was only wrapped in a thin plastic bag with no other materials or instructions inside the box. If you spend about $50 on a spout you would expect it to be protected better. UNLESS, this was a return and Home Depot shipped me a returned (and maybe defective) item.

We are sorry to hear that your new Moen 3857 Diverter Tub Spout with Slip Fit Connection in Chrome would not install onto the pipe outlet. The 3857 is designed to be installed on a 1/2" pipe with slip fit-CC connection. We suggest inspecting the pipe outlet to ensure no sharp edges/burrs are on end of pipe. The pipe outlet should extend 1-1/2” to 2-3/4” inches from the finished wall surface.
