Disappointed with Moen Flo
I'm disappointed with the Moen Flo Smart Water Detection Valve. After just two years, it stopped tracking water usage, always showing zero. There are no replaceable parts available, forcing customers to spend another $500 on a new unit. Many similar complaints suggest a widespread issue. Moen's explanation blaming water quality is unreasonable; it should have been considered during design. Providing no repair options is unacceptable. Not recommended.

Flo-Moen Shutoff valve loss of flow indication
Lost flow. Replaced magnets on turbine was described in previous post by other. Sealed holes on turbine where magnets are installed with red silicone. Reinstalled Flo-Moen Shutoff valve the next day. Now I have flow indication on my Flo-Moen app. I replaced the old magnets to determine if the magnets have deteriorated or if the problem is associated with the electronics. Moen said that they would ship me a new turbine that they are now sealing the holes on the turbine to prevent rusty magnets when the turbines are in stock again.

The Flo by Moen Smart Water Monitor and Automatic Water Shut Off Valve was actually recommended by my Homeowners Insurance to lower my premium by $1,500.00, Was east to install since I’m a General Contractor and have Plumbers on staff, Just had to run a new electrical line to plug the unit in, Will need a good WIFI signal depending on how close the unit will be installed to the WIFI signal, Hopefully it will never have to work, but if it does I know the it will stop the water leak from flooding my house.

Magnets corroded, but I fixed it.
I love my Flo device, especially when used with the water detectors. Can save a huge insurance claim. Definitely worth it...until the flow indication stops working. Corroded magnets is a well known and frustrating failure mode for the Flo. Mine worked great until it was out of warranty and no help or repair parts from Moen. So I figured out how to fix it. 1) After removing the turbine, I drilled a hole behind the magnet and used the drill bit to push it out. 2) I purchased 2 neodymium magnets from McMaster-Carr (#5862K24) about $2 each. 3) Pressed them in place and sealed with RTV to prevent corrosion. I had to slightly sand the outside diameter of the turbine as the replacement magnets were just a bit thicker and caused a bulge in the turbine wall. Back in business!!!!

Hello TrainDriver. Thank you for the feedback you posted on the Home Depot website regarding the Flo 0.75 in. Water Leak Detector with Automatic Water Shut Off Valve. What you are describing is caused by iron or other metallic sediment that has collected on the turbine’s magnets and corroded, not the magnets themselves. We highly recommend installing an iron filter to prevent the issue from occurring in the future. I bought Flo in 2018. When it stopped registering water flow, I removed the unit and found the contacts for the turbine corroded. They do not sell the simple part as replacement but I have to buy a whole new unit. VERY UNHAPPY.

              Buyer, be careful!!
We bought this product after having leaks from our hot water hoses twice in five months. My plumber installed it and said it was easy to install with what came in the box. The learning phase lasted barely seven days. Ideally, the learning phase would last two weeks in my opinion. I get alerts when I do more than one load of laundry a day. I’ve gotten alerts for taking a 10 minute shower. Want to know how fun it is to find out you’ve gotten a message that your water is getting shut off and you’re completely soaped up?! And now, this morning, my garage has a nice amount of water from my outside faucet that has been slowly and steadily dripping all night, but did I get an alert? No. So, in reality, this $550 device will detect what it perceives as huge leaks, but won’t send alerts for the small. Honestly, I’m feeling a tiny bit deceived. At least the water in my garage didn’t ruin anything in my house.

You need to be familiar with plumbing to install this product. The wireless pairing was easy if you have a smartphone because you need to scan a barcode on the unit PRIOR to install. You need an electrical outlet near the unit. There are some Pros and Cons: PRO: Detects water pressure, which is invaluable information. CON: Cannot do anything about it. Since mine was far too high I had to install a pressure reduction valve to protect my home. PRO: Every night it closes the valve and tests the line for leaks. CON: If anyone uses the bathroom or turns on water turning the test, it detects it as a leak. PRO: It watches for excessive water usage and will notify you. CON: It takes 5 minutes to notify you and the 15 minutes before it shuts off the water. That is a LOT of water damage if it is a real leak. CON: It does not have leak detectors. It just looks at how long the water is running. You can get a third party leak detector and manually turn off the water if it tells you there is a leak or automate it. CON: Cannot tell legit water use from good. I suggested a sensor on the house drain to detect if the water is going down the drain signaling legit usage, but nothing has been developed. PRO: Has a nice app to monitor use and notify you of problems. CON: Several of the features require a $5 month app fee to see the amount of water used by appliances. Mine has been on for 3 weeks and no data has appeared because it says the system is "Learning" our water use. CON: We have had the unit shut off the water during showers of several family member in a row. It is not fun to be soaped up and the water shuts off. We did not hear the notification that the water was going to be shut off because we were in the shower. I give the product a reserved recommendation because the problems can be fixed with add on products.

                Hello WylieCoyote,
Thank you for your feedback. Although the Flo system does not have a pressure reducer we are glad that the data was able to inform you to take action when it detected the pressure was way too high. We have found this to be the case in many homes that do not have a PRV. Our team is always working on improvements and will offer more products in the near future. If you need assistance, please contact us at support@meetflo.com if you need any assistance.

I bought this when it was a Buy of the Day as I have an old home built in the 1800's and don't trust the plumbing considering it's age. Was pretty easy to install. I went with Soldering fittings. But you can also use SharkBite or Compression fittings. After installation connecting to the Wifi with the App was quick. But it doesn't actually begin the process of monitoring and protecting the plumbing until 7-10 days after installing as it does a learning process to determine what you normal water usage is in an average week. The device itself has

I installed myself with a friend about four weeks ago and had no problems. I followed the instructions exactly and all went smoothly. I can't say anything about support folks because I did not need them. The app is easy to use and the information it provides is very usefull. I have noticed I am more aware of water usage and therefore waste less water which is a good thing. I have had two family members with damage from water leaks recently and I was determined not to let it happen to me. After the learning period on the app, I found a leaking toilet I was not aware of which will save water and money. The control and diagnostics of house water system and peace of mind the Flo provides are priceless. My wife took a long shower the other day and I got an alert from Flo about large water useage. This thing is cool!

I am an avid DIY'er and geek. I love getting data about all aspects of my house. I recently purchased an energy monitor, use automated door locks etc. I was super excited just over a year ago when I was able to finally purchase one of these devices, and made it in on the beta program, my unit is actually marked as "engineering sample". The production version, which I thought I was supposed to be provided having been on the beta program, was never provided to me and may solve some of the issues below, however only the ones related to the hardware. Overall: Sadly I've not been very happy with the device. Even after the cost of the device the installation in the greater Washington, DC area was over $300 and that was from the installer that FLO recommended I use. Very expensive. I would have hoped that for the extra expense and effort required of the in-line installation the features and support would be better. I am able to turn water on and off via the application however can't access data in a very granular way. Also leak detection does not seem to work very well when water pressure is on the lower side of recommendations for a single family house. If they address the issues and I've provided more detail if you care to read, I'd definitely recommend this product however at this time I can't recommend the investment. You will likely be underwhelmed and disappointed. Additional detail: Installation: If the pipe you intend to install this on is running against a wall you will have issues with the installation and even getting the weird cover back onto the device once installation is complete. In the end my installer wasn't able to get the piece on. I'm not sure what the purpose of that cover even is. Rotating the plastic nut that creates the seal is also extremely difficult when the pipe is close to the wall. This affected me because after the installer left, after waiting over a week, I was still not seeing any flow or data from the device although it was online. Turns out I needed to turn off the water in the house, take the device off and clean out the impeller so that it would move freely. There were no alerts notifying me that there was a problem just that is was doing a calibration. I had to call support and have them send me a supplemental instruction on how to clean. I did all that work by myself as I didn't want another high cost plummer visit. Operation: Operating the device once I finally got it online and cleaned out is fairly straightforward. It seems to provide reasonable accurate information with regard to flow, pressure and temperature, and I immediately realized I needed to reduce the pressure I am getting from the city (90 psi), more about that later. If you want anything more granular though you will be grealy disappointed. I am currently paying the additional $5/month for their total protection which increases the amount of insurance but is also supposed to provide me with more data. What fixtures am I using, how often, how much is for showers vs washing dishes. This is data that FLO is capturing and recording for everyone however only showing it to the individuals that pay extra on a monthly basis. The data from the fixtures is lackluster at best. It often captures washing hands as a use of the toilet... As mentioned, accessing the core data through the website or the application is fairly straightforward however if you want do download that data in more than and excel export the FLO team will not provide you with access to do that. In fact if you try any sort of automated query for the data you will get a call from the FLO team asking you to stop. In my case that call came a few weeks after I'd attempted something and I'd totally forgotten about it. Even though I called them back the same day they were less than helpful in helping me identify what I'd done previously that was making requests. When advised my account would be suspended and deleted I again asked for some help and received no response for 45 days. After receiving that additional information it took only 30 minutes to resolve the problem. I'd imagine this post on a vendors site will result in a quicker response than my support ticket. The unit did immediately identify I had an issue with high water pressure from the city, which was great. It did result in needing to install a pressure reducing valve in front of the FLO which meant dealing with those nuts again up against the wall but again I was able to do this without the need of the plumber. After the successful installation of the reducing valve and setting the pressure down to 45 psi I was alerted daily that there was a small leak detected during the daily test. I had to increase the pressure back up above 55 before those daily failures went away. This leads me to wonder how well it is going to detect an actual leak.

DomusData - The issues you’ve highlighted here are primarily due to the device being an early generation device that is not for sale any longer.

We are pleased to hear that the device identified the need for you to install a pressure reducing valve to protect your home from high water pressure which could cause serious plumbing issues in the future.

It seems as though you have had some difficulty coordinating with our support team to receive your production unit, please reach out to Support@MeetFlo.com and I assure you they will provide you with the production unit timely. Should you prefer to swap out the early generation device for the production unit yourself, the Support Team can provide instructions on how to do this, preventing the need for a visit from a plumber. The Support Team has extensive plumbing knowledge in order to assist you performing this task yourself.

Please note that our system is not set up for individuals to create automated queries for data. Our platform currently provides data for several time periods that you can download into an excel format.

Once you receive your production unit, you can always contact Support at Support@MeetFlo.com or call us at 844-MeetFlo should you have any other questions or concerns. FloTechnologies

Absolutely love this valve. Wish it were a little less expensive, but worth it in the long run. I purchased this valve as I was concerned about a possible freeze up of the domestic water lines during the winter months in my home. We moved into a condo in Connecticut in 2016, and the winter weather can be pretty severe. We've had a few issues where the tub drain line has frozen, but thankfully, no freeze-ups of any water lines. When I did some research, the Flo valve is the one that appealed to me the most. Despite it's cost, I really liked the fact that it is a whole house solution as opposed to the spot leak detectors that are on the market. Yes they are cheaper but if the water rolls the wrong way you'll get no push notification of a leak, and how many of these type leak detectors would you need to secure the whole house,. The Flo uses temperature, flow, & pressure to troubleshoot any problem situation and acts accordingly by closing the main water supply valve to the house. In my opinion, this could prevent a catastrophic event from happening by mitigating the water damage due to a leak or freeze-up. The Flo app is very well organized, and easy to use & and well laid out. If there is an issue, you'll receive push notifications, and depending upon the severity of what it detects, the main water valve to the house will be shut until such time that you deem it safe to reopen. In addition, if you should decide that the valve needs to be closed, you have the ability to do that as well, as this valve can also be controlled using wifi.

HD just started selling this great product but I have been using it for about a year and love everything it and its' App does without spending any ongoing fees. It works over your home WiFi and creative App. No hub needed. It monitors water pressure, water temperature and water flow rate 24/7 and alerts you by phone as well as by email of any problem. It tests the entire water supply line every day and alerts you of any issue. It detects leaks as small as one drop per minute. The App is very nicely designed. It changes color to red if there is any issue. In my opinion you will not find any product at any price that would match what this product offers. Simply cut the supply line after the shut-off valve and install this valve in the line. Download the App and follow simple instructions and you are ready to go. Some insurance companies offer discounts so be sure to check.

I searched around for days to look for a system that did what Flo does. there are some cheaper alternatives (Some that clamp onto the pipe, some that robotically turn your water's shutoff valve, but not one that does what this does. Flo isn't just a manual shut-off for your whole house water system, it will automate it if you're away from your phone or home. it monitors Temperature, water pressure, as well as flow. it's already saved me from a broken fixture event (back yard water spigot failed and would have spewed out 3GPM for perhaps DAYS before we would have noticed. instead, it notified me after 20 minutes because it was 'uncharacteristic' for us to run the water for that long. I was alone in the home, logged onto the system and confirmed the water flow, quickly searched the home and found the issue. Thank you Flo! They try all manor of ways of contacting you with water emergencies. email, phone, push notification. The app is clean and easy to understand, very elegant. a lot of effort went into making smart home owners feel at home inside the app. I installed Flo myself with the help of my brother and father, it was quick work, I don't think it required extra fittings, but working with copper pipe did require specialized plumbing tools. keep that in mind as part of your cost of install if you want to do it yourself vs hire it out. The water pressure feature was especially neat, since we always felt our water pressure was a bit low. Flo's documentation actually helped me locate my pressure regulator, and with the help of the pressure meter in Flo, i was able to boost my water to 50psi from 40. that helped the upstairs shower situation! It's neat to see the temperature of incoming water. in the summer my house sees incoming water temps of around 80 degrees, which is pretty nuts. I'll keep an eye in the winter, as this will help me determine what kind of tankless water heater we would need to get if we decide to get that. (Tankless heaters are rated by how much they can heat up the water in gpm, so if your ground water is 50 degrees and you want to get to 100, you need a system to heat 50 degrees at xGPM to meet your demand - monitoring ground water temp is the first step in this. thanks, Flo!) Measuring water use in real time has it's benefits! We're currently trying to show our 7 year old that the showers she takes is loonnnnng. so with Flo's water usage chart, we were able to show her that her water usage in the evening is more than mommy's shower and Daddy's shower combined. this helps teach her conservation, yay, planet! Lots of things to love. it's an investment, but consider it the cost of your deductible in a water damage home insurance claim! It can work in the background, or you can watch and be a part of your water use. it's great tech, and it's great peace of mind.

Easy ordering. Had a plumber install it for me because he has the correct tools and been working about 3 weeks now. Great info and it works. My wife leftI an outside hose on just a very little bit. I noticed it the next morning and the Moen did too and called it just what it was. Happy with the purchase.

I am happy to have purchased this item and a piece of mind that the unit will protect from leaking and water damage to the house. So far the unit work as expected and the phone app is working perfectly to help monitor the water usage and with remote control to turn on or off when away on vacation. Excellent unit!

Took numerous attempts to link the three detectors. Would only link one and done. Finally had to sit right by the modem and all three linked.
