My master bedroom was the furthest from the central AC and didn't cool the room well. This unit solved the problem. The installation process was not very difficult. I am extremely happy with the unit. I am able to sleep much better. Hint: Make sure you look at installation videos from Youtube. They will help a great deal. Making a hole in a cement wall worried me, but I rented (from HD $80) a hammer drill with a 90mm core bit (make sure it's 90mm). With this I drilled the hole in about 5 minutes. The hole can also be done in other, maybe cheaper ways . The electrical part was not difficult. Bottom line: take your time, follow the instructions, look at videos. Also, my room is about 200 sq feet. I thought the DIY 12,000 was too much for the small room; they don't sell smaller DIY units. I called the company. They mentioned the inverter's functionality reduces the BTU which enables it to work very well with smaller rooms. It works perfectly in my room.

The Mr Cool 12000 BTU minisplit worked out great. It seems to be high quality and the instruction were clear and well written. It was a bit of a job to install, but this was related to location. In most cases I think the installation would be fairly simple. It is keeping my 400 sf garage shop at 72

I purchased the Mr. Cool DIY 12K BTU Mini-Split Heat Pump with WIFI Smart Controller from another Big Box store in March of this year (2019). The unit arrived in two separate boxes in good condition. Since I was replacing an old mini-split with a new mini-split the installation was straight forward. The 25ft line-set was a pain because I only needed 15ft, the extra 10ft had to be coiled up behind the unit. Before putting the A/C into service I checked the connections for leaks using soapy water, there were none. During the first week of operation I noticed that the air-handler would ice-up intermittently. As the weather got hotter outside, April & May, the air-handler started icing-up constantly, so I called Mr. Cool about the issue. Mr. Cool warranty said to get an A/C guy. The A/C guy checked for leaks and there were none. He then checked the refrigerant pressure and found it was very low. He added 4 lbs of (R410a) refrigerant and the unit now works fine, no icing-up. The repair cost roughly two hundred total. When I emailed Mr. Cool about reimbursement for the 4 lbs of refrigerant that was missing from the unit, they informed me refrigerant is not covered under their warranty. I knew labor was not covered going in, however, refrigerant is a tangible part like any other and it should be covered under warranty. In conclusion, these DIY units are not really DIY. It is a combination of a gimmick and a gamble and you will have to add (R410a) refrigerant to get it to work properly. Save yourself some money and buy a Non-DIY model which is typically 25% cheaper. Install the Air-handler & Compressor sections yourself. Then call a certified A/C guy to vacuum down the line-set, check for leaks and release the refrigerant from the compressor. He may or may not have to add extra refrigerant. This way you are sure the unit will function properly. Another advantage is that you will not have to deal with the extra unsightly line-set coiled-up behind the unit. The A/C guy will remove the extra line-set before vacuuming, and more than likely he will give you a warranty with regard to refrigerant leaks. BTW, the WIFI Smart Controller App does not work off the bat, it crashes when trying to install. After much experimentation I finally got it to work. The secret is to turn off your cellular LTE before running the configuration App. on your smart phone. Good Luck.

Bruce, we apologize that you have had a negative experience with one of our products and would love the opportunity to improve your experience with MRCOOL and MRCOOL products. However, we must refute some of the claims made.
First, we typically do reimburse customer costs when there is a problem with a new unit. We asked you to provide the contact information for your technician so we could verify the charges and try to gain more insight into the issue you are experiencing, but we have never received this information.
Second, unless the unit was actively leaking, which the A/C technician assured was not the case, they could not have added 4 lbs of R-410a to the DIY 12k. The system fully-charged only holds 2.12 lbs of refrigerant.
Third, the DIY systems have a set line length by design so a technician is not needed to add or remove refrigerant. We have begun working on a solution to providing variable lengths of DIY line-sets that should be ready for the market in 2020.
Fourth, the install manual on the Smart Controller outlines steps that require you deactivate other Internet connections before attempting set-up. This is a standard requirement for IoT systems. mrcool

Appears to do everything advertised.Installation took a lot more time than that shown on UTUBE, however on the overall the unit must get an excellent rating. - One thing that is a takeaway is the REMOTE APP for cell phones. I have been trying for many days unsuccessfully.

This product is fine and looks pretty sweet. The problem is actually Home Depot and this advertisement which shows two large pieces, the indoor wall mounting unit and the condenser. I ordered this product a few days ago for in-store pickup. The kind people at the store gave me one box. I brought it home and realized the condenser was not part of the package. I searched all over this advertisement which says that it only ONE box. A search for the Mr. Cool product on the internet says there should have been TWO boxes. One box for the indoor part and a second for the outdoor condenser part. I called the national call center 1-800 number (Nicholas) and was advised to call the store and have the Appliances team check the stock book and inventory for a 2nd box even though he only saw one box for the product in his computer system. He was very nice and believed me that the condenser was not received. Both the receipt I got in store, and a shipping sticker on the box said that there was only ONE box and not marked "1 of 2" nor "1 of 1". While calling the local store, the original customer service rep who gave me the box transferred me to the appliances department where an unnamed representative was really rude to me and would not actually listen to my request to check the inventory for a 2nd box. I was passed back to the original customer service rep (Kathy). From there, Kathy spoke to Receiving and there was no 2nd box. I returned the box today to the store where I did the pick up. The staff was very nice and did not hassle me about the return. Throughout the process everyone with the exception of the one rude representative. However, I wrote this review as a warning to everyone that this advertisement and the reality are two different things. If you purchase this product, make sure you get BOTH boxes. Great for the garage
I spend a lot of time in my garage and was heating it with a pellet stove and kerosene heaters and found that to be time consuming and expensive. I don't usually keep it heated when I am not using it so to heat the garage it takes time to get the pellet stove running and for the garage to heat up. So I bought the Mrcool 36000 diy mini split. I am a Electo- Mechanical Technician so the install was simple for me but this unit is heavy so I suggest help and to consult an electrician on your local codes. The install took about two and a half hours with help not encluding the electrical which I had done on the previous day and it could not be any simpler. The hardest part is hanging the airhandler thats where you need help pulling the tubing through plus i installed the condenser on a side mount bracket and needed help lifting it on. After the install I turned it on and could not believe how quite and hot the air was. I also tested the cooling and now will have the coolest garage in town. The ability to control this unit using the app on my android phone from anywhere is great. I can turn the unit on before I got into the garage and have it heated or cold and ready to go. I suggest this unit to anyone who needs to heat a garage or larger area. The only thing that could be improved on is that this unit requires a 35 amp circuit feeding it and the electrical terminals in the outside unit are to small for 8 awg wire so most do it yourselfers are not going to have the equipment to crimp on the one hole connectors required to make the connection so an electrician might be required to do the connection.
