Customer Reviews for MSI Absolute Black 12 in. x 12 in. Honed Granite Floor and Wall Tile (10 sq. ft./Case)

If I were buying this tile for construction purposes I give it high marks, however I buy your 12x12 and 18x18 for my laser engraving business and I laser etch photos and plaques into them. With that being said I find the tile to be extremely inconsistent in how its made. Some tile I receive are perfect and engrave great word plaques others have way too many "flakes" when I remove the top glossy coating to expose the stone and it can not be used for photos. Between 12s and 18s I have purchased over 2 hundred tiles for my business, but I now have too find a new supplier for photos. Also this last batch of 18x18 was almost 1/4" out of square. I love the way the tile looked. I was looking for a different kind of hearth stone for my fireplace and these tiles were the perfect finished pieces. Absolutely beautiful!

the shipping was fast. i liked the tiles but 2 of the tiles came damaged.

I only needed 7 tiles but had to order the 10 minimum. Good thing because several tiles had chipped corners and a couple were warped. I made due, but it was a challenge.

For my new kitchen, I chose to build my own granite counter tops (see attached photos) at a fraction of the cost of the fabricators. We chose this granite, and the price per square foot was an amazing bargain. Please note that the density of the black/gray elements vary slightly from one batch to another if you look closely at the 1st picture, you might notice this variance between the and and center tiles; inspect before leaving the store. Despite being granite, they are very porous and MUST be sealed. I never go cheap on sealers, and chose " 511 Porous Plus" it's done a very good job of keeping out stains from coffee and bloody Mary mix.

My kitchen had stainless appliances and black cabinets, this tile was a perfect inexpensive match. I could not be more pleased and saved a considerable amount of money that went into 4 digits $$$$ X 2 by doing all the work myself at age 65. I used these tiles for my center island and counter tops. I then used brushed nickle Shluter trim for the front edge purchased at Home Depot. I went with the ABSOULUTE BLACK 12" granit tiles also purchased at home depot for my back splash. I SAVED A FORTUNE. My estimates for granit was $3200 to $4500 and laminate estimate was $1500. I did all this myself in Granit for about $700 for both the counter top and back splash, I have a very large kitchen. My Island alone is over 20 Sq feet! I could not be happier, I did all the work myself and it looks GREAT. The pictures posted do not do my kitchen justice. THANK YOU HOME DEPOT!

This is a great low-variation granite tile that works very well with homedepot.com's shipping modality. We typically use it to set off white marble. There are two things you really need to know to use this granite tile effectively. The granite changes color when wet, and must be sealed with a good penetrating sealer (511 Impregnator is my favorite and the industry gold standard) after installation in any wet or damp area. Since no additional bullnose or other trim pieces are sold, if you intend to use this granite tile extensively, you will need to be able to make your own trim pieces with a profile wheel/grinder bit and the Archer diamond polishing pads that are sold on homedepot.com. If you know how to work granite, though, it's just great stuff.

Had this installed in front of my fireplace for the hearth. I just love the tiles, cant stop looking at them. They are just beautiful!

It's beautiful great for the price. My sister is kicking herself for paying $6000 for her granite slab, while I paid $1,500 for tiles and labor. My contractor was great at arranging veins together so they looked as slab like as possible. Not pink at all. Love it.

Took a fair amount of time to install it, I polished the exposes edges. I used light smoke unsanded grout. My wife loves it and I think it looks great.

I ordered 7 box's and had to have 2 reordered, but I new this would happen after reading other reviews. The tiles look just like the picture and I could not be happier. they shipped on time the whole process went well.

I installed the tile as counter tops for the kitchen in a rental. Whenever I show the rental, I get multiple compliments on how great it looks. A very economical solution for counters.

I am extremely pleased with this product. When I decided to get it I was told it would not be good to use in the kitchen or laundry room. I love the rich look this absolute black granite tile adds to both the kitchen and the laundry room. It is the best choice I made.

This tile looks fantastic. Recommend a light gray non sanded grout with this joints. They also sell a matching granite counter top. Make sure you order enough though they only come 5 to a box.

The Granite tile installed great and I was actually able to cut as needed. It was easy to handle and once installed, looked beautiful. I would highly recommend this product to others.

Some of the best looking tiles ever, also extremely high quality. No breaks or chips at all during the cutting process. The gold flakes are spectacular!

We shopped all of the high end tile stores for similar products and then happened to look online at the Home Depot site. The prices were much better than the speciality stores and they shipped right to my home for free. Also more choices for sizes- for us the 18" by 31" was much more appealing than square tiles. We used the Black Galaxy granite to cover a portion of a brick fireplace and it goes great with the new black doors. The finished edges were perfect for our application and it was easy to install using some thinset mortar. I was able to cut the tiles using a diamond blade and a skill saw. All in all, this is a great product and I was really happy with Home Depot.

We had an fireplace that had used brick and a Mexican paver hearth on a home we just bought. Completely ugly, and impossible to clean. My son wanted a black mantel, and we had used the black galaxy granite on his kitchen counters, so wanted to match it. Got the 12 x 12's for ease of installation and affordability. Pulled the old pavers, put down cement board, cut the tiles to fit with no problem, and installation completed without problems. Used a dark grey grout. Really happy with the end result.

The black granite is a highly durable product that I can use creating various art. I own a Co2 Laser engraver which enables me to engrave practically anything from photographs, logos or just plain text.

Exactly what I ordered and expected. The tiles look like a slab when installed with no gaps. And for less than half of the cost.

We took a look at this in the store and ended up ordering a box. It took about 3 days to arrive and was packaged well. We laid it out on our ceramic tile counter tops to try and get a better feel of what it would look like. We liked it and ordered an additional 5 boxes. The 5 boxes were completely different, no gold tone, just brown and we weren't really going for that. I understand there are variances in natural stone but these two batches were pretty far off. Unfortunately, I didn't pay close enough attention to the difference and marked all the tiles for placement. The only ones I didn't mark were the first box and HD took them back no questions asked. I placed another order online and it was a bit darker (see photo) than the first batch so I'm going to make it work. Lesson learned: Order the entire batch at the same time and hopefully all are from the same lot.

I put this down on my bathroom floor and it looks GREAT! Next project is the kitchen and I will be using it there too.

Very nice look, depth, and color, very few exclusions. Did my backsplash out of the same material. On my old countertops, I removed the original tops, then I used 3/4 plywood and 1/2 backer board, and I reinforced my counters with extra 2x4's before installing the granite.

We ordered this granite stone tile for our kitchen update. It came by UPS to our front door. It was packaged very well/securely and we had no cracks or broken tile. It brought our 1978 house up-to-date with ease. It was easy to cut and install with a water saw. I would recommend ordering from Home Depot online services. On top of that the price was just right.

Gorgeous tile. Exactly What I wanted and looks stunning on the bartop. I was a bit leery of ordering something like tile, even granite tile which isn't as brittle as porcelain, to be shipped directly to my house but everything turned out fine. It arrived within three days via UPS, the tile was double boxed and well cushioned in the boxes and shipping charges were imminently reasonable at just $12. It cost less to ship this than 6 pieces of wood I ordered for this project from another vendor (Home Depot doesn't carry quartersawn oak.)
