Beautiful Used in a shower and as an accent wall

Three of the five tiles in this box are so much lighter than the image above as to be unusable as I try to match an existing floor. The existing tiles are on the right in the photo below. The new ones from the box are labeled 1-5. #2,3 and 4 are from a completely different color family.

My project was a bathroom vanity. It had cheap white 4" square tile counter top and the tiles were coming loose. It didn't look great to start with and then got worse. I was looking for natural stone in 24" X 24" to reduce the cracks, this is as close as I could find. Out of the box, it doesn't look that great (about what the photo above shows). Get it wet though and it looks pretty good. So I went looking for a 'wet look' sealer and sure enough that made it look even better than water. It has a textured surface and with the sealer, looks elegant and sophisticated. The stone is fairly easy to work with. I used a masonry bit a few times without issue and a wet saw cuts it like regular tile. I used a dry saw (huge amounts of dust) to cut the circle for the sink and that went well. The edge was an issue. I ended up cutting 3 one inch strips at 12" wide then epoxying them together then to one end of the tile. I then got a wet grinder with a 3/16" round over for the top and bottom of the edge. That wet grinder also came with a 'polishing set'. Testing that out, getting about half way through the 'grit set', it was already polished to a shine, but that wasn't what I wanted as the surface isn't polished, it's got the natural surface. So, I only used the first two grits, just enough to remove the grinder scratches. I applied the 'edged' tiles running the length front to back, attaching with mastic. I tried to keep the grout lines to nothing. I got pretty close but I used a little bit on between each tile and in the imperfections on the front edge. Then I applied the sealer in two coats an hour apart. This worked out so well, that I also used the slate as trim around my shower tile, I intend to do the other bathroom and the kitchen counters the same way.

The slate came packaged very well no broken pieces. And was easy to cut and install. Looks great up and around the fireplace in the bedroom.

Really looks great. Used "Sandstone" colored grout to keep a consistent, natural look.

I installed this in my 17x5 entry, my bath floor and shower, and my hearth. On the hearth, i used a mix of the black and blue tile (which is a neutral grey). Every tile is a little different. NOTE: It takes s lot more work than regular tile. Once you set it, and grout it, you’ll need to wipe down with a clean sponge each wipe to remove the clouds until it’s completely cloudless. Then, you have to seal it with slate sealant. It is stunning, in all the applications im only allowed to upload one photo, while reviewing, so def picked the hearth. But the shower is amazing

We installed this slate in our entry and our master bathroom and are very happy with it in both places. People often comment on how great the floors look! In our master bathroom this tile is installed over a hydronic heat system and our installer had zero issues using this tile for that purpose; he did say that larger tiles are a little trickier to install and keep level than smaller tiles. We used this slate as the field tile in our master bath along with Merola Crag Hexagon Black on the shower floor and the two look great together. Both (and all grout) were sealed with 511 Impregnator Sealer which deepens the color of the slate, makes it waterproof, and makes it easy to clean; this sealer needs to be re-applied annually.

This slate tile is a great value! I recently installed this myself for an entryway be cause I wanted tile that wouldn't be slippery and be somewhat timeless. It turned out gorgeous but it was a bit harder to work with than typical ceramic or porcelain tile. Tiles are a bit uneven but that was to be expected with a natural stone. Our biggest problem we ran into was the grout stuck to the face of the tile really bad after grouting. We even sealed it twice before grouting. I tried all sorts of expensive cleaners to get it off and in the end we found that good old baking soda, water and a brush worked the best. Don't waste money on tile cleaners just use baking soda! After we cleaned it, we sealed it again and brought out all the variation in the tile and darkened to beautifully!

Love the look of the tile. Cuts nice, pieces are consistent. Great look at the end. Ordered Wednesday night received it Friday afternoon. Super fast shipping. Only problem was one of the 6 boxes I ordered was almost all busted tiles. AStill had enough to finish the project, so probably won't bother going to the store to ask for a replacement

Nice tile to work with and nice variation in color. A few tiles in the box had some stains but we used those for smaller cuts. I did seal it with two coats before installing as recommended. But the grout haze really stuck behind in some areas, despite how fast I tried to wipe it off. With ALOT of elbow grease, a stiff scrub brush and a haze remover for slate - it finally came up clean. I sealed it one more time and it looks great.

this is what you are buying. not the pretty blue color shown above. It is an ugly greyish color. nothing pretty about it . Look at the photo included.

We have used this tile in two projects this month. My client saw it and liked it so we used it in their home also. The price is better at HD than anywhere!

Product was good and I’m happy but lots of damage due to shipping. Had enough to finish the job but had to order more in order to finish.

Excelent quality, from 6 boxes we had only one tile crack at citting.

Accidently ordered the blue slate. Note that the blue is the lighter of the two in the picture. We already had a 6x24 black slate installed in another room of the house (purchased from a different supplier). We returned the 6x24 blue for the 12x24 in black. I wet the tiles in the photo to give an idea of what a sealent may do to the coloring. The installed tile is black slate, and sample is the same black slate.

The product was delivered yesterday. When I opened the box today, I discovered at least three tiles broken. The case will be returned.

We like the result of our new bathroom floor. There are much more variations on colors , thickness and textures than I thought it would be. The crate crashed and cost some damages. The costumer service was great on returning and everything. We sealed it before installation. Overall I like the look of it. It brings down the bathroom a bit otherwise it could be too formal to my life style. The price is unbeatable. We used porcelain tile in same shape and color for our guest bathroom before we found this tile. The price tag is doubled. And I like this tile than the porcelain tile.

Just had this installed in our laundry room and it is BEAUTIFUL! Installer said it was great to work with. No problems with chips or broken pieces. I would highly recommend this tile. We had it laid in a herring bone pattern and it looks awesome. We used the 12x24 size.

The tile is beautiful and was easy to work with during installation. It’s a quality product. We love the color.

Got to store to pick up and luckly checked box before leaving. These tiles were unusable! Every tile was orange and green- looked like sowmthing was growing kn them. Even the Customer Service person was appalled.

Product was packaged very well in a protective foam box inside of another box and was in perfect condition when received (picked up @ store). Each tile was unique, but edges were square and consistent. It fit the design we'd picked very well.

This tile is amazing. Highly recomended. Quality is great. Plan on using again with more projects

Installing it in my kitchen and so far I am very pleased with the quality and condition of the slate tiles. Been through about 100 of the 270 I purchased doo far and only have found one with a broken corner. When I finish the kitchen I plan to purchase additional slate to do my family room.

It is beautiful. We are using it as flooring. We have had to order 50% more than what we need each time because so many of the pieces come in broken, cracked or too thin to use. Home Depot has been great about the returns. If it wasn't for the hassle these would have received five stars!

Great consistent color and texture. Harder than other slate products that I have used.

We laid this tile in a herringbone pattern for our guest bathroom and loved the end result! It was exactly what we were looking for. We tiled the floor ourselves and it was very easy to work with. Note that this is natural slate, so it will need cleaned up and sealed before you can grout. The tiles also have some variation in texture on the surface causing them to have some bumps and dips as you walk across them, but its very subtle. Would absolutely recommend.

Met expectation of slate tiles in described colors. I would recommend ordering an extra box or two- slate can be tricky to cut causing breakage

Project has nice texture and variation in color and tone -- it's not truly 'black' in color by any measure, but a very nice saturated darker slate gray/blue, goes well with an adjacent area of existing wood flooring we have in our house. We like the tile format and size -- the extended length looks more sophisticated than a square format might. We had the tile laid by professionals -- they had no issues with the installation. We took a little risk by ordering this product sight unseen, but in this case it really met and exceeded our expectations. I don't remember if there was an option to order a tile sample first, but that might help folks who are unsure.

Getting it was a huge hassle. Had to cancel and reorder due to errors. But- after 6 + weeks and a home depot credit to cover the second set of shipping costs we did get it. We did order 750 square feet, so smaller orders would probably be easier to fill. It was just as nice as the peacock slate we ordered from Home Depot through MS International 4 years ago. Excellent variation in color and texture. Arrived packaged well with little to no broken tiles. Installed without a hassle. Keep in mind this is gauged- so you have to plan ahead for an even floor. Tiles vary in thickness.
