I applied this thick paste with a brush after trying a sponge stick. It has a fruity smell as opposed to a strong solvent aroma. It softened two layers of varnish from a teak boat dining table easily during the two hour wait. Scraped it off with plastic putty knives to avoid damaging the hard teak surface. It did not affect the stain or the color of the table. Very impressive!

    Does work well
I followed specific directions and it still didn’t remove all 4 layers. It left it worse than my prior method of heating old paint and scraping/peeling it off. The area where paint was stripped to first layer and or bare, that was without the product. In short the product didn’t work well or remove paint evenly, however this says removes up to 15. I had to put a second coat to hopefully remove the last 2-3 layers. I used a brand new spatula with sharp edges and still wasn’t helpful. I don’t know a what to do now. It’s caused way more work and I was looking for a quicker resolution.

      made it worse
I had hoped to remove alligatored lead paint from a window and I applied this product liberally, even standing maybe 1/4 thick goop on horizontal surfaces of window. Let it stand over 24 hours. Maybe removed one layer of paint and created a huge mess that will take me days to finish scraping now. The alligatored sections of paint did not come off, so now the entire window is a mess. And the fumes stunk up my whole house.

Bought this for my deck today from home depot. Did a poor job. Afternoon wasted, money wasted + very tired from the scrapping.

This did the job. I used it to remove the layer of paint behind a mirror. I left it in a couple of hours, and the paint just came off without any problem.

            Did well
Used it to strip a dresser I picked up. Went through a while 1qt and had to pick up another to finish. The first batch was separated and had to mix which was a bit difficult due to size of container. 2nd batch was already mixed together. 1st one which I had to mix worked way better than 2nd batch, but all in all it made if for I had to do a lot less sanding to cut the stain.

I will absolutely recommend this product! I have been looking a product to remove the paint from my shower wall and couldn't find one until I found this one. I am in love with it! It didn't take long to get the paint off and I didn't damage my tile

Was stripping only (1) coat of 29 year old varnish. Let set overnight and still had 30% I had to redo. Nothing like the old stuff.... returning.

Excellent product if you give it time to work, was in a rush in one area and didn't wait for it to work. So applied in other areas and let it sit overnight and it worked really well.

I own a 120 year old house in which one of the previous owners had painted over all of the original trim, doors, and windows. The original finish on the trim (not sure about the doors and windows, yet) was the original oil varnish that was applied when the house was first built. In my desire to cosmetically restore the house, I needed something that would successfully strip the multiple layers of paint without too much effort (and without sanding or vaporizing anything, as I'm certain that there is at least one layer of lead based paint) and this seems to be doing the trick. I'm still getting the hang of finding that fine line between too little and too much, but it seems to be very capable. It does seem that the longer you can let it sit, the better it definitely performs. As shown in the pictures, the first application (after sitting for about 8 hours) had the paint wrinkled and it basically came off in a sheet. It's possible that it would have removed more had I let it sit longer, but I'd rather do a couple applications if need be. It DOES seem like it struggles if what you're trying to remove is multiple products (latex paint, oil paint, lead paint, oil varnish, etc.) but, all in all, I'm very happy with the results. The only issue that I've had is the consistency of the product... The first quart that I opened as a thick, viscous liquid that was easy to apply with a paint brush. The second quart had the consistency of cold oatmeal and I had to apply that by hand. The third quart was the same as the first. And the fourth quart, which I haven't opened yet, seems like it's separate and feels/sounds as though there's a layer of liquid that will have to be mixed in.

                  Basement walls
I'm working on stripping the paint off of poured concrete basement walls from the 50. There's 4 layers of paint. This stripper removed all but the last layer of paint with ease after 2 hours of being applied. The last layer probably needs another product. The only problem I have with this product is that it has resulted in some seriously strong fumes. I've washed the walls with hot soapy water and hosed down with hot water, but the fumes keep coming 48 hours after stripping and washing walls.

                    The Best!!
Before you could not convince me Klean Strip wasn't the best. So glad they don't sell 1/2 gallon because that is the ONLY reason why I tried this. Leave it on for 12 hours and your job will be a lot easier.

We used this product to strip paint off of our fiberglass front door and sidelights. We were concerned that the stripper would harm the fiberglass, but it did not harm the fiberglass at all and did a good job stripping off the paint. This stripper did not create a bunch of fumes, so we were able to do the work in our attached garage. This half gallon pail did the whole door and side lights with about one fourth leftover.

                      really not that impressive
the bar here is klean strip. it is hot and nobody likes to get a dose of it on the skin. the paint i am stripping is ancient paint in brick, and this product performs no better than a power washer (not ideal). the attached pictures are from 6 hours of setting, and then power washed. the paint is so split and peeling that I am shocked a stripper product didn't do better. for the cost, klean strip is doing better. for the gentleman restoring woodwork with this stuff... dude learn to use a heat gun. Don't strip antique millwork with liquid strippers.

Loved, loved, loved this product. I was striping paint off of very old doors from my house. The doors probably had 4-6 layers of paint on them. I brushed on the stripper with an old paint brush and left it on for approx. 24 hours. I used about half a gallon per side for each door. I was worried that it was drying out later I realized that just because the top looks crusty doesn't mean the underneath is. My husband did spray them down with water for me about halfway through the process. I then took a few different scraping tools and literally peeled off the paint. It came off like a banana peel. I found that if I peeled a little taking off as much stripper and paint as possible and then wiped it down with and old towel right away before moving on that it worked much better. The paint came right off but the gunk left was what was hard to remove. It was best to wipe right away as I mentioned before. After finishing stripping the door I then took soapy water and scrubbed them down with a brush. Then wiped dry with a rag. This was the easiest wood stripping job I have ever done. There is a slight smell but nothing compared to what I have used before. It is a little messy but come on we are taking off 6 layers of paint it is obvious that you don't wear your Sunday best and that you don't do this on a finished floor. I also should note that this took of the paint from the hinges and latch plate. Oh and I did this while watching my four children.

STRIPPED A BRICK FIREPLACE Does it work? Yes Is it a mess? Absolutely Would I do it again? Probably not What did I learn? Start with a small test area The product worked relatively well and was easy to apply. It’s getting it off that was a real bugger. The product dissolved the paint to a water soluble cream with a gooey coating when it dried. I had left it on for more than 24 hours (days actually) and it was still removable. The problem was that the paint still had to go somewhere. It didn’t dissolve into thin air. That’s where the mess came in. I wore out a wire brush (see photo) and used a wire drill bit, but that just flung gooey GLUE-like pieces EVERYWHERE. Then that had to be cleaned up. HUGE mess. (See photo of my slippers.) I would NEVER do this project if there was carpet nearby or walls I cared about. Lucky for me, we are in the middle of remodeling the room so a mess was part of the moment. The biggest let down was that my brick was ugly. I ended up painting it white after all. This fireplace had tiles on the hearth that were painted as well. This product was amazing on that smooth surface!

I had to strip the brick on my fireplace, and had tried Citristrip, but that only took off the top layer of paint, despite multiplie applications and waiting 20 hours. I was worried nothing would work, then saw reviews for MultiStrip. I applied the product, and left it for 3 hours, then started to scrape... The layers of paint that wouldn't come off with Citristrip scraped right off with Multistrip. I could scrape till I could see some brick. Then I got a wire brush and applied some elbow grease and the results were amazing. The wire brush got gummy with the product, I found I could easily clean the brush with soapy water. It probably took 1.5 to 2 hours of scraping and wire brush to achieve the results in the second picture. My next step will to use my drill and a wire brush to rough up the brick face -- my goal is place a concrete product over the brick, upon which I can lay marble tile. Multistrip achieved the goal of getting enough paint off to create a porous brick surface for my next steps.

                            Absolute disaster
Save your money, and more importanly save your time! I tried this paint stripper on some cabinet doors which had 2 coats of latex paint. First of all, it is a major pain just to spread the product evenly, and leaves little chunks of stripper everywhere. On the first try, I waited the recommended mimimum 2 hours. It was a dificult sticky mess, removing only one layer of paint. So I reapplied and waited 20 hours on the second try. Fortunatley, it was cool and humid, so it didn't dry out. But still, a absolute mess. After waiting even 20 hours, it still didn't remove even just one coat completley. This stuff turns latex paint into latex glue! So after the second attempt, I then had to wait over a day for the residue of stripper and paint to dry so i could sand the rest of it off the wood.

                              Best I've tried
I live in a 117 year old house and am stripping all of the painted woodwork and refinishing it. Over the last 8 months I've tried 4 other paint strippers. Some worked better than others. But none as well as this. Like some other reviews have said, you have to let it sit. If you want to be done quick, 1.) You should probably have someone else do it and 2.) that person shouldn't use this product. I tried it on two wainscot panels from the house. Out in the garage where I did this, it was 95° and 80% humidity. Each 5 foot panel had 4 layers of paint and each got an entire 1/2 gallon bucket laid on thick. (A neighbor stopped by and said it looked like a wet sheet was laying on them.) I checked every two hours, gently pushing an couple spots to see if it had gotten down to the wood yet. If it was drying out or thinning in spots, I globbed more stripper on. In between the globbing, I'd spray water on everything just to keep it all wet. 5 hours in it looked ready. So I waited 3 more hours just to make sure. The layers and layers of paint came off like frosting off a cake. So. Frickin. Easy. The last pictures are after I've wiped down with a rag. No effort at all. Though I will say, I was diligent in keeping it wet even while while wiping it off. Just keep a spray bottle nearby. And though they say you can just use soap and water for the final clean-up, I used acetone and steelwool to since I didn't need any more moisture getting into the wood.

FOR STONEWORK - BETTER THAN MOST GELS, BUT NOT A PANACEA.
I have a large field-stone fireplace in my living room, that was painted white at least 30-years ago, and repainted a few times since then (see picture). I want to bring the stone back to its natural (unpainted) state. I previously tried the Peel-Away brand paint remover product with laminate paper, leaving the gel to dwell overnight. I stuck the laminate paper over the gel which was time-consuming and tedious to apply due to the uneven stone surface. The next day, I removed the goopy paper, and attempted to remove the paint by scraping the surface with a putty knife, a wire brush or stainless steel scouring pad. Unfortunately, the rough stone surface made it difficult or impossible to reach the paint in many pocks and depressions leaving many painted areas untouched (see picture). Subsequently, I tried the Multi-Strip remover. Following the directions, I applied a thick coat of the Multi-Strip gel and let it stand a good 24-hours. There was no need to apply paper (thank goodness). I applied the product both to an untreated surface, and to an area I previously treated with the other product (see picture). The results were better, but not perfect. The gel managed to reach most/all of the surface, even within pocks and depressions, and with some scrubbing using a wire brush I was able to remove the paint from most areas that were accessible with the brush. Unfortunately, for my particular application, there are crevices between stones that I simply cannot reach even with a tiny wire brush. I suspect that I may need to resort to a sand-blaster for those areas that remain out-of-reach. I also used the product on the painted wood fireplace mantel with marginal results. Before it had been painted white, I think the mantel had been stained. Although the product handily removed the latex paint, it did not fully remove the underlying stain despite several applications over 3 days (see picture). I may have to resort to sanding the wood to finish the task. Overall, this is a good product, more effective than the competitive product I had tried. Still, it is no panacea – removing old paint from areas where brush or water access is restricted may require using another technique (i.e. sandblasting, pressure-washing if outdoors). Even in fully-exposed areas, the paint did not just “fall off.” Mild scrubbing/brushing was necessary, but the areas cleaned up very nicely, much better than the competitive product (see picture). A few notations – the gel adheres to surfaces very well, it did not drip even when placed on the underside of a surface. I was afraid the gel would “dry out,” but when using the recommended coat (rather “thick”), it was still wet after 24-hours (I was working indoors at 72 degrees F). I did not smell any noxious odors. A wet sponge is all that’s needed to do a final cleansing. This is a product that requires a fair amount of “dwell” time to work effectively – suggest you take that into account when planning your project. Misting the surface with a spray water bottle just prior to removal, seemed to expedite the removal process a little bit. Although the product cost is rather expensive, the results are reasonably good. I would recommend it to a friend.

Strips well, but not really multiple layers
Good job striping a layer at a time, but really not much more in my application. I applied to an old interior door, with shiny paint, and 2-3 layers of paint underneath. It did a decent job, but after two application, some spots still had paint on them. Not just residue, but paint that will need additional striping. Really not a bad product, don't want to come across too negative, but at least in my case I would say the multiple layer part seems like an over promise.

This stripper works well on varnish
This product is a thick consistency that I applied with a putty knife. I wouldn't say that it was odor free as I had to open the windows. It can be left on for 24 hours, as it is active that long. I took some pictures to show the process. After 24 hours I scooped it off the floor. The wood stayed damp for another 24 hours and then dried out. It didn't take out the dark areas where moisture had previously penetrated the wood so that will need to be sanded. When you apply it, the application has to be applied thicker than you would paint. It may require misting with water so that it doesn't dry out while it is still active. It would take a lot of the product to do a whole floor, but works well on small damaged areas that you want to blend in and re-stain.
