I have always appreciated the tough and durable Makita products. They are always competitively priced. This combo kit comes with a reciprocating saw and short blade, an impact screwdriver, a hammer drill, and a flashlight. Each is powered by one of the two 18 Volt 3 Ah batteries that come with the combo. The batteries can be supplemented with 4Ah or 5Ah batteries which I have seen at HD. These will however add to the weight of the tool. These tools have more than adequate power for their size and considering the DC power source. The charging unit has a multi-light indicator which monitors the status of the battery (Low power, Charging, Fully charged, Dead, etc) Also included is a spacious tool bag and shoulder strap with many pockets to hold batteries, charge station, and drills. There is plenty of room to add other Makita tools. All of the components in this kit appear very durable and solid. I performed various drilling, screwing, and cutting tasks with each of these tool. All of them met or exceed my expectations. All three of the tools have easy bit and blade mechanisms (no tools required to remove and change). The flashlight is old technology but does cast a strong, high lumen light. It can be configured in four positions; perpendicular to the grip, parallel to the grip, at a 45 degree angle to the grip and -15 degrees to the perpendicular. So if you stand it on a base like the floor you can point it 15 degrees downward from forward to straight up. Nice feature. The hammer drill, with variable speed, has the standard two speed settings as well as positions to engage the hammer technology. It is also equipped with the torque adjustment for different types of screws. Advertised as a brushless motor. I don't believe that is the case. Buyer to confirm. This unit also comes with two clips to hang the drill from a belt.

This is a really nice set of cordless tools. The instruction sheets that come with each piece are very clear to understand with illustrations. The battery charger puts a full charge in the battery packs in a very short time. I will admit, I was a little skeptical on just how good the impact driver would work on heaver jobs. But it had no problem driving three inch lag bolts for me. These tools are very light weight but very sturdy. I love the idea of being able to drill holes and then install lag bolts while on a ladder without having to lug heavy drills and impact drivers up the ladder to do my carpenter work.

18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Kit (4-Piece) (Hammer Drill/ Impact Driver/ Recipro Saw/ Flashlight) (3.0 Ah) review: When I ordered this set of Makita tools I was under the impression that they were brushless tool; they are not; they use carbon brushes. That surprised me as all the top power tool manufacturers are touting the durability of brushless motors. All that aside, I decided to test each tool for evaluation and objective analysis. The only thing that concerned me is that the batteries do not have rubber overmoulding to protect them when you drop your tool - and you will drop them eventually (especially in this blistering Texas heat). I have dropped tools and that rubber molding really does protect batteries from cracking open. Ok, onto each tool that I tested. First the flashlight - I really like it! You can adjust the angle of the head multiple elevations - good. The light does not have a way to adjust the lumens output - surprised me. Also, the light is a warm light; I do prefer 5000 degree Kelvin bright white light. I am also surprised that the light bulb is not an LED. Huh? Having said that; it is VERY handy outside and inside. I like it! Next, the impact driver - man this thing is built to take a beating! You just push a bit holder directly into the collet - no need to use two hands. You remove the bit holder by pulling with one hand and remove with the other - pretty standard and not an issue. The collet holds bits EXTREMELY well - I like that. Note that this does NOT have multiple speed control - you only have the trigger to adjust speed. Well, I used it to drive in some long ACQ screws into a 4X4 piece of redwood and it performed flawlessly! The grip is just so natural and fits my hand perfectly; you can use this impact drive for hours without fatigue. Now, to the hammer drill. First it has no side handle to get a better grip; however that did not prove to be an issue: I gave this drill the acid test: load up a 1.25 inch spade bit into the drill chuck and power through a 4X4 piece of redwood. I have had other drills chucks slip and be unable to complete drilling through the 4X4 - NOT THIS DRILL - IT POWERED THROUGH WITHOUT FLAW - and I used speed 1 and speed 2 - no issues, just success. Man, I was impressed. What a great drill. Now to the reciprocating saw: my first one I have ever had: it blew me away! First it only weighed 8 pounds. Loading the included blade was super easy and locks in solidly; yeah! I then used it to do some serious pruning to some trees on our property. My wife was with me when I did this. Her comment was: Wow that was fast! I really just love this reciprocating saw - it is so useful, powerful, and easy to change blades. Wow! The charger included is great and charges the batteries in about 30 minutes. The bag included is hefty and designed to protect the tools inside. I strongly recommend this combo set of tools. It should last you many years. Now, it Makita would just put some rubber molding around the battery edges to protect them in drops. Elegantly designed tools: love them and I do recommend them. I would give the set a 5 star rating but those batteries concern me. There ya go!

This Makita four-tool set of battery powered tools is really high quality and well-designed. I already had a Makita leaf blower with the same 18 volt 3 Ah battery pack, so it made sense for me to get a compatible set of battery-powered tools. This set comes with two battery packs and a charger (see picture), as well as a very solid carrying case that has a hard bottom and end sides so it will take on any environment and protect the tools very well. The carrying case has a substantial strap with a shoulder pad as well as a carrying handle (see picture). The strap clips onto the D rings on the case. The bag also has a hook and loop strap closure on an internal pocket for the spare battery - good design feature – no battery shorts from bumping into things in the bag! Each of the three power tools (impact driver, hammer drill, and reciprocating saw) have brushless motors. The reciprocating saw does come with a blade so you can use it right out of the box - nothing else to buy. The fourth tool in the set is an 18-Volt flashlight with Xenon bulb and a four-position tilting head so you can adjust the light beam easily, even straight up. The flashlight runs about four hours on one charged battery, so it should last long enough to get you through most any project. The charger provided with the tool set charges up each 18 volt 3 Ah battery in less than 30 minutes, so you can always have a fully charged battery available to slide into place. Makita has included separate manuals for each tool in this set as well as the battery charger, so even new DIY’ers will be able to refer to the manual if they have any questions. Very comprehensive! Makita included belt clips for both the driver and the drill, and a handy strap for the flashlight. They really have thought of everything, so I highly recommend this tools set!

Unbeatable price at $299.00, even the $379.00 price tag was reasonable. Makita is my favorite overall brand. Drills and circ saw are great. Sawzall is a little slower than a DeWalt I use regularly. The bag is huge. This is my second set - one personal, one company owned. If I weren't already on this platform, the only other brand I would have considered would have been DeWalt. I always recommend Makita.

Professional Tools
We have been using Makita tools in our fence construction business for years and couldn't be happier with the performance, reliability, and durability. These tools take a real beating day after day and continue to work flawlessly. The batteries hold their charge for a very long time and recharge quickly. The carrying bag is perfect for keeping all the tools together and easily hauling them around. And now, the bag has wheels and a collapsable handle to make hauling them around even easier. As for the individual tools: Variable 2-speed 1/2 in. hammer driver/drill: The keyless chuck makes changing out bits a snap. Two speeds and adjustable clutch help prevent stripping out screws. The ability to use it as a hammer drill makes working in masonry and concrete simple. The LED light on the front helps when the light is limited or shadowed. 6-1/2 in. circular saw: My favorite saw now. The blade is on the opposite side from most saws, which gives you a clear field of vision when making cuts. In addition, the cut guide on the front of the saw is dead on, so you know exactly where the cut will occur. Plenty of power for cutting through 2" boards. Reciprocating saw: A work horse for sure. Very simple and fast to change out blades - just a quick twist at the base of the blade and out it comes. The shoe base is easily adjustable as well so you can move the saw to a portion of the blade that has not been worn out from cutting. We use it on wood and metal all day every day with no issues. Variable speed impact driver: Plenty of torque for driving lag screws into metal or wood. Compact and light. 4-1/2 in. cut-off/angle grinder: Plenty of power for your everyday grinding needs. Comes with two different types of wheel guards, which is unique. One is for grinding and the other is for cut-off wheels. Balance in hand is good. Easy to change out discs and wheels. 4-position flashlight with xenon bulb: This is the only tool I have seen problems with. One of my flashlights would regularly turn off after a few minutes of use. Must have been a bad solder joint. Would like to see the xenon bulb replaced with a LED for even longer running time and a whiter light.

Only one tool is BRUSHLESS
The set is a good set with lots of tools however if you advertise it as Brushless then all of the power tools should be Brushless not just the angle grinder. The drill shot sparks out when I tried to drill holes in angle iron and on the third hole stopped working. Used my 12v set to finish the job. I like Makita but ended up returning the set because of the drill and the motors NOT being Brushless. If you want a brushless set this is not the one for you.

Makita Combo is a Strong Workhorse
I've used this Makita 18-volt cordless combo for over a decade. This year we bought another for a second location. The original is still running fine and never had any issues. I like the Makita system not only for its reliability, but also for its battery life and quick charge ability. We've opted to stay with the hard case (as opposed to a bag) as it provides great protection in harsh construction environments. It also allows a spot for extra bits and a few drills. I can highly recommend this product.

I owned an old Makita set & was very happy with. It wore out & I decided to try a Dewalt 18v 5 piece kit. What a joke, batteries didn't last long, drill quit had to buy a new one that cost half the price of the kit, Sawzall fried the battery melted terminal. Then the new drill quit. Won't ever buy anything Dewalt. This new Makita kit sounds better, stronger, smoother & sturdier. I will stick to Makita from now on.
