The 40V Makita cordless hedge trimmer is awesome. Has many features. It has 3 speed control, low, medium and high which makes it easy to operate.I also like that you can change the angle of the handle from right to left with the push of a button. The angles to change go from o degrees, 45 degrees and 90 degrees. The hedge trimmer is really well made of quality materials and should last for many, many years. When charging the 40Volt battery, it has a blower motor in the charger to keep the battery cool while charging. Does not take long to charge the battery as it is a fast charging system. The hedge trimmer has a reverse button just in case something gets caught in the blades and would easily be removed. Over all the the Makita hedge trimmer is one tool that everyone should have in their possession. I would highly recommend this hedge trimmer to all my friends and family. The hedge trimmer is light as my wife can use it with no problems at all.

This is my first dip into another tool brand being hardcore into red tools. The Makita 40V max XGT Brushless Cordless 24 inch hedge trimmer kit is a stellar piece of kit. First thing I noticed is that the powerhead pivots giving the user 5 positions to adjust for maximum comfort. It's a nice idea however, having used hedge trimmers for sum 30 years the traditional way, it feels strange breaking away from that. With 3 speed options, you can adjust the longevity of your battery run time...I have not yet experienced where this creates much difference when trimming boxwoods, burning bush and other types of hedge plants. The blade set is nice and open enough to cut one inch diameter twigs. Whilst cutting boxwood, I noticed it was doing such a great job a second pass was almost not even needed...old trimmers in the past would struggle where this one absolutely does not. That said, my old hedge trimmers had a debris fence that would help push off the trimmings and eliminate the increased need to rake out the trimmings that would eventually die and turn brown. If this hedge trimmer had a debris fence it would without doubt, be the best yard tool I have. Now the charging takes a while and works great but it is loud and almost sounds like a small handheld vacuum. It'll be in the shed but if you had this indoors in a basement near a finished room, it's pretty loud.

I got this Makita trimmer kit replace a cored trimmer and I cannot be happier. The simple convenience of a battery vs a cord cannot be understated. And with the new brushless motor, it has the same power my old trimmer did and with fresh sharp teeth, trimming the hedges and bushes around my property takes less time and comes out looking much better with cleaner lines. The battery lasts up to 6 hours which is great if you have a lot of work ahead of you and charged in less than 45 minutes. There are 3 speed options for optional cutting. This overall is a great trimmer and I am very happy I finally upgraded to the Makita.

This hedge trimmer has many excellent features, which made it quickly our favorite trimmer. The obvious advantage over gas powered being instant access and clean, the drawback of battery powered (capacity and cutting time) is cleverly solved by being able to reduce speed to your cutting preference, 'slow' is sufficient for hedges, at least we do not move the trimmer along at a high speed. Three speed settings, battery charge indicator, help you manage your cutting time. In respect to safety: you have to have both hands on the handles in order to start, the right hand (in my case) has a mechanical lock-out and there is a timer cutting power after a few minutes without use - thus minimizing risk of injury even in the event of one safety feature failing. The right-hand handle can be turned to match your cutting angle, but that locking mechanism appears a bit loose. The blades are very hefty and well sharpened. There is only one stationary backing plate and the screws with spacers and washers to form the blade assembly. As long as the washers and blades do not wear, there should not be a gap forming between the blades, which will make cutting thin branches or leaves difficult. No indication of degradation (cutting about one battery charge so far) - it is recommended to spray oil after each use to protect the blades and reduce wear. The trimming experience sofar has been very good. The motor will stop as soon as it senses a high load (thick branch) and if the branch is locked between the blades, it can be freed by pushing the 'reverse' button - excellent!

The Makita 40V max XGT Brushless Cordless 24 in. Hedge Trimmer Kit is a mighty nice trimmer. After only one use, my husband threw his old corded trimmer in the trash. Upon receiving we charged the battery according to instructions and it was fully charged in about 35 minutes. Trimmer comes with a quick charge battery charger that is equipped with its own cooling fan. I love that it's brushless for longevity and most importantly it's cordless. The battery life is remarkable, we used it to trim a long row of hedges and it still had plenty of battery life left. It did everything they said it would and more. I've always struggled with trimming hedges using a corded trimmer; I once chopped the trimmer cord in half. This trimmer is a game changer for me. The 5 position rotating handle make cutting at different angles so easy. You can set the angle of the handle to 0, 45 or 90 degree to the left or right. The weight distribution is very good; it didn't feel too heavy when trimming in different positions. I love the start safety feature. You can adjust the speed with the touch of a button. The power and performance is excellent. No more dragging around long extension cords; I now have freedom to cut hedges without fighting the cord. It's not loud like some trimmers. Maybe I had too much fun with it; I have way more trimmings to pick up than I ever did when using the old trimmer. It's a pleasure to use and I highly recommend it. Would I buy it again, you betcha.

This trimmer is lightweight and has several features like changing the angle of the trimmer for ease of use.

Tool is a BEAST! Huge power!

The Makita xgt hedge trimmer is an excellent piece of equipment. Great power with the 3 speeds. Weather resistant. Twisted handle. The battery is a bit expensive. But with what I do for a living, it's worth it.

For $99, this is worth it.

Cuts like butter.. I had my doubts because I've been using my Echo commercial gas but I'm impressed! Adjustable trigger grip is a game changer, 3 speed option is nice , with reverse. Xgt battery is a bit heavier than 18v, but no complaints. Time will tell if it lives up to Makita quality but it feels nice and well designed.

Bought this on a whim with some other Makita XGT 40V yard tools since it was on sale, and it is so good I am mad at myself using manual or crappy trimmers forever! Blows away the corded ones and too short/underpowered ones I’ve used from multiple brands. This thing feels cheap at first, but quickly becomes really functional and ergonomic.

We have approximately 20 established ornamental grasses around our home that I normally trim to the ground twice a year with conventional manual hedge shears. Not a strenuous task, but a time consuming one. I purchased this tool hoping to speed up the process. What would normally take half a day or more took just over an hour to complete with the Makita 40v 24" trimmer. This also allows trimming much closer to the ground vs. using hand shears. The tool is very quiet, and does a great job at trimming ornamental grasses. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

I seems to work as well as a gas one. But the weigh is not right in what they clamed it weights
