The description and instruction manual are confusing as the freezer I had delivered and installed has no door lock The instruction manual is very general and tries to cover several models. The freezer apparently s no bottom shelf, it is an optional extra? I hope it is self defrosting but I can't tell if the model they sold me is or not.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like this stand up freezer as my back will no longer allow me to dig in a chest freezer. The smaller size is a great fit in my garage. I chose Maytag due to the brand's historic dependability and longevity. I gave it four stars for these two reasons: First, it was difficult to turn it on and off with the touch pad buttons as it didn't respond to the 3 second hold well. It will, however, toggle through all freezing options just fine. Secondly, the lack of options inside the box with not supplying a bin for the bottom area and space for, but not including, an additional shelf. Having to create my own storage options was not ideal. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product.

Resetting takes forever - and manual is less than helpful. BUT the freezer works well. How does flash freeze work - does anyone really know?

This is exactly what I was looking for and true to the Maytag brand name. The shelves are adjustable and the door shelving is perfect for smaller items like butter, some packaged items, etc. It's very well made.

The control board ices over causing the freezer to go into continuous defrost mode. We have to pull everything out of it and melt the ice with a blow dryer then unplug to reset it. If we don't catch it in time food starts to thaw. Just opened freezer and it's 50° inside everything is thawed out - lost thousands of dollars of food. Trashing this unit!

How long does this unit last? Mine is going on six years, and, the electronic controls keep turning up the freezer all by itself. This is causing frost build up and non stop running of the compressor.
