Customer Reviews for Merola Tile Conchella Mini Penny White 11-1/2 in. x 11-5/8 in. Natural Shell Mosaic Tile (0.95 sq. ft./Each)

Used this as an accent stripe in my shower at the beach, with a tile that looked like a travertine. Everybody who sees it comments on how perfect it is. The colors are beige tones, with taupe, a few browns, etc. My contractor said that since this tile is a lot thinner than the surrounding tile, they decided to put some sort of backer board behind it to even things out. It's a very good bang for the buck...impressive, but since you don't need a lot, it's good. It is now two years old, and still looks brand new.

The tiles are absolutely beautiful. I used them as an insert between white crown molding, and white quarter round above a wall of white subway tiles. I had to lay a thick, flat layer of thinset to raise the level of the shell tiles up to the thickness of the regular tiles, but they went in nicely. One word of caution- absolutely white grout does not look as good as a pale grey. The circles are hard to see on white grout, so I'll be tinting the grout to the same grayish white as the thinset.

These tiles were the perfect complement to the polished marble that I used in my tub surround and bathroom countertop.

This tile is spectacular and adds just the right amount of bling. I used it as a border - It is very thin so additional backer board is needed for it to match surrounding tile.

The pictures do not do this tile justice! When the light hits it, there are subtle blues and greens that I cannot see when looking at it online. It was easy to install and a perfect choice for our bathroom remodel.

Used this as my kitchen back splash and I am in LOVE with it! It is really spectacular. I love the way it shimmers and sparkles just so when the light hits it. Installation we VERY easy.

This tile matches a pendant light fixture also made of shells for our cottage kitchen. We had it professionally installed as a back splash behind our sink and it looks gorgeous! Contractor said it was a little delicate but not too difficult to install. We used bright white grout to compliment our cabinetry. We could not be happier as to how it turned out. A picture is worth a thousand words...maybe dollars?

We are do-it-yourselfers. The tile was easy to cut and to work with. This tile product is so thin that it took several applications of grout, because it seemed to wipe out of the narrow, thin spaces. We are pleased with the results.

Used on fireplace surround. Very pretty and totally lightened up the black hole. Also used high heat spray paint (first!!!!!) to paint inside fire box in almond, after cleaning with TSP. We are installing gas logs so no more ashes. After install was done, we saw that dark slate hearth was now way too dark, so we laid travertine subway tile with a pencil border (frame) on the hearth. We used antique white grout, after installing with thinset on all. I had looked and looked for pictures of tile laid straight over a slate hearth/surround. Only found one. This tile is thin so we tried it and it looks great. So much better the black hole!!

Beautiful product that we hope to use to remodel our kitchen. However, we will not be using Home Depot services since they would only come out to give use an estimate if we got an estimate for cabinet refacing in addition to what we wanted which was countertops, appliances, sink, faucet and backsplash. We had our initial appt. cancelled by Home Depot and didn't know about that until the morning of the appt. because I called to make sure they were coming out. They we made another appt. and when they called to confirm, they informed us they wouldn't come out if we didn't have a reface estimate. Poor customer service.

We have no complaints , our installer has done a excellent job , with no problems or regrets , all of us think it looks awesome .

Very cheap and fell apart. Disappointed in the quality. Thin, chips..maybe would work for an art project, not my backsplash.

I used this Mosaic for a fireplace surround (approx. 20 sq. ft. It was thinner than I expected but applied well with a 1/8th in. V notch trowel . It cut well with a wet saw but I found it difficult with nippers (much tougher than I thought it would be). Final result was "AWESOME" the shimmer and shine is un matched by any other product I've used. I would recommend this product and can't wait to find more places like possibly back splashes or picture frames who knows? I purchased it on line and received it in about a week,very pleased.

We used this for our kitchen backsplash and it looks amazing. It's very thin so it fits perfect!

It is quite beautiful, but so flimsy. I returned this, as this was purchased to see if it would match the kitchen. However, the tile installer did not want to touch this with a 10 foot pole. He stated he had installed this tile before, and it chipped and I would not like the seems. He said unfortunately, when installed you can see where the tile ended and stopped. Not for me.

As the other reviews, it is simply striking and much nicer quality than other competitors.

I bought one sheet of this to compare to other samples as I was choosing the backsplash for my beach house. Although we are not yet at the point of intallation, this tile had the best color, quality and price of all I sampled. When I do place a large order for the backsplash, I will have saved $360 over the competitor's product.

My very experienced contractor had never installed anything like this before, and was a bit apprehensive about all the cuts I wanted, but he said it was fine to work with. He did have to back it with a thin sheet of plywood in places where it butted up against the porcelain tile, because the shell tile is very thin. The only comment he made was that the rows of shell were not always perfectly even, but I love the organic, artisan appearance that gives it. It is absolutely GORGEOUS on the walls, it glows with its own iridescence, in daylight and under electrical light. Even though it was pricey, I am so glad I chose this, it looks amazing, is waterproof, cleans with a damp sponge, and is the focal point of the entire bath.

This tile was just what I was looking for. In certain lighting, its iridescence is the primary feature. The natural colors of browns, beige, gold and off-white are beautifully neutral. I was concerned about my own skill level so I hired an experienced tile professional to install this product as my kitchen backsplash. I liked the result so much, that I also had the backsplash for two bathrooms done. My installer indicated that he had not worked with sea shell material before, but he did not have any partcular problems when installing this although the thinness of the tile required some extra attention when setting. Directions for installation specific to working with sea shell tile were not provided, only a generic tile installation sheet was included. After doing an online search. I found some helpful guidance about installation and care specific to sea shell tile, which my installer used. The manufacturer should have provided this information. I also think this product was pricey. Overall, Home Depot has great customer service and with free shipping and beautiful results, I have to recommend this product.

This tile is pretty thin, but our tile installer didn't seem to have trouble with it. And, since it's a natural stone every piece is different so you have to be ok with that look. The sparkle is AMAZING. LOVE my new bar backsplash, paired with honed black granite counters.

I purchased this tile to cover an entire wall behind a freestanding tub, I used a sand colored grout and it is just absolutely beautiful. The accent lighting adds to it's beauty. Everyone who sees it loves it! So glad I made this choice and spent the money, I couldn't be happier!
