Ideal for making one hole through metal.
Glad I only needed to drill through 14-gauge square tubing, effectively making two holes. Barely made it through other side and bit is shot. See pics of tip of bit after making two holes. Went slow and used WD40 as the store clerk suggested. He first suggested purchasing a better bit, but this was a small one-time job so I went cheap. OK for one time use on steel. Purchase a better bit if project requires multiple holes in steel.

    Tip broken on first use
The bit broke immediately on first use, just a few seconds drilling and it broke, very fragile. I bought another bit, same thing happened exactly the same way on first use. Won’t buy again, waste of money.

Hi there! Could you email us at social.media@milwaukeetool.com with more information on the tool and material you were using the bit on? Thank you! - The Social Team
I would not buy this product again
Could not drill 1 complete hole in concrete floor before the bit wore out (see pic). The 3/8 bit worked fine on dozen other holes but this 1/2 did not. Appears to be a defect. Like to get a free replacement

Great to have in home improvement kit
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Milwaukee bit is great quality drill bit with a lot of versatility. Drills perfectly round holes with ease (using an impact driver). Came packaged well with recommendations on what speeds you should use (with both a standard drill and impact driver) on various types of construction materials.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This drill bit will go through any material. I used to drill a hole in bricks to put in an electrical plug and it drilled in no time. Got through the brick with no trouble. Great product to have for drilling any material

                Multi-Material functionality is priceless!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love that this one drill bit is able to be used on so many different materials. My husband and I do lots of little DIY projects, especially since the pandemic. This fits our drills perfectly, it’s sturdy and drives through wood and metal with ease and still looks like new. This is a high quality accessory.

                  IMPRESSIVE DRILL BIT
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The 1/2" SHOCKWAVE™ Carbide Multi-Material Drill Bit appears to be a good quality bit. This bit is 1/2" diameter x 4” fluted x 6” overall length bit. It is similar in appearance and design to other masonry bits, but has two distinct differences. First, rather than the common round shank, this bit has a 1/4" hex shank which is potentially beneficial in two ways. The hex shank provides for improved grip and retention in the drill chuck, since the jaws should not easily slip on the flats of the hex shank. Additionally, the 1/4" hex shank fits the collet of 1/4" impact driver tools. The second difference that I observed is that the lands of the flutes are narrower and the grooves of the flute are wider than my other masonry and twist bits. I suspect that the wider grooves are designed to carry away and clear out more material, faster than typical masonry bits. The bit size is clearly stamped on the shank. I own and use Milwaukee hammer drills and impact drivers, including the outstanding M18 brushless tools which provide outstanding performance and are extremely powerful. This Shockwave bit can be used in both the drill and impact driver, however I generally use impact drivers to drive fasteners, and not to drill holes. I have used this bit for the brief time that I have owned it in my Milwaukee 2804 hammer drill, which is a powerful workhorse drill, and is the most powerful cordless hammer drill I have ever used. The Shockwave bit drilled into cured 2500 psi concrete, CMU block and 3000 psi grout just as expected. It drilled with reasonable speed and effort. The carbide tip appears to be sharp and the bit does a nice job of removing material and clearing the hole as drilling progresses. The Multi-Material design of the Shockwave bit is unique. Drilling wood and plastic was generally easy and effective, however, the carbide, masonry shaped tip of the bit does not have a point which is as sharp as a twist bit of the same size, which allows the Shockwave bit to drift more than twist bits when starting holes in metal, wood or plastic. The Multi-Material design is better put to use with stacked materials, rather than using it in place of a twist bit for starting holes in non-masonry materials. Where it proved useful and very effective, was when drilling through wood attached to masonry, such as drilling through bucks or ledger boards and into the masonry substrate. Of course, I need bits longer than this 4” bit for drilling holes for wedge anchors through 2”x wood bucks into block and/or cast concrete. Overall, I think that the Shockwave bit is a very good bit with a good design. It performs similarly to my other masonry bits. What remains unknown is the durability and longevity of the bit, as only time and use will reveal that. I expect drill bits to remain usable for a long time, and to continue cutting fast and well through the materials that they are intended for drilling into. Based on my experience with the Milwaukee Shockwave bit so far, I am optimistic that this bit will remain in my tool bag for a long time.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Perfect size for my needs! I needed a drill bit that could be used to drill holes in the bottom of ceramic garden pots for drainage. I was able to drill 3 and 4 holes in the pots without cracking! Cutts through concrete like butter

Drill bit broke within 3-4 holes
I read the Required hammer drill settings and I said it in after like the fourth hole the tip broke Which is kind of disappointing since Milwaukee makes good tools And not long lasting drill bits for small duty jobs which requires hammer drill settings

The Milwaukee multi-material carbide drill bit is my go to bit for just about everything. This bit is tough and durable. It will go through wood, PVC, tile, metal, brick and concrete. The bit I have is 3/16 and it's an all around great bit. Easy to insert in my drill and remove. So far the bit has remained sharp with the work I have used it for. The length is perfect for my needs. Great bit.

My project involved moving the hand railings closter to the door to make the view from inside the house less distracting. In conjunction with the new Milwaukee 3/16" shockwave drill bit, I used the tapcon screws. The drill bit worked great and made the job go smooth and easy. I put in 4 posts with eight screws per post. I have pictures on the attachments and the finished job.

Our house number sign was mounted into mortar and was starting to sag. My husband wanted this shockwave bit to drill into our house brick to fix our sign’s sagging problem permanently. It worked great! This drill bit is 3 1/2 inches long and made with carbide and a reinforced white tip material which wraps down the carbide shaft for greater durability and clean drill holes. I like that the back of the package gives the drill speed for each type of material to be drilled.

I bought two bits at the same time. One bent during usage after a short period of use, while the other has lasted more usage than expected.
