This drill bit did not work well on my ceramic tile. To be fair, neither did the other two bits I purchased to complete the project I was working on. ?

Worked well on ceramic tile
Great product. Drilled four holes in ceramic tile to install safety bar. Placed painters tape over hole to keep bit from wandering. Checked the level indicator on my drill to start hole. Used light pressure until the bit started a hole. Used moderate/slightly heavy pressure while drilling. Dipped bit head in water frequently. Bit showed a little wear when the job was complete.

I've been sitting on a project for years, turning a very nice blue wine bottle into a lamp. I finally acquired this drill bit and went to work. It took a while, as the speed recommended was low, but the job got done with no breakage. I ended up with a very nice hole and now I'm off to HD for lamp parts. The package is very informative, but is very hard to open without damaging its usefulness as a drill holder and manual. I ended up using a Dremel cut-off wheel to do the job.

The MILWAUKEE 1/2 IN. CARBIDE TIPPED GLASS AND TILE DRILL BIT is impressive. I was quite surprised how easily the drill bit chewed precisely into the tile, slowly stripping layer by layer off, and reaching the other side without blowing out. On the advice of the manufacturer instructions, I went nice and slow at first to get a hole precisely where I wanted it. If you are in need of a 1/2 inch hole into glass or tile, this is definitely the top quality bit you need to get the job done. Very impressive!

In all fairness I must admit that this my first attempt at drilling in glass. I gave this product a good rating because it worked for me but I really have nothing to compare it with. Anyway a while back my wife asked me to drill a hole in a wine bottle for a craft project. Well we have since lost the wine bottle but I'm sure we will soon find another. To test the bit I chucked it into my drill press and set the speed to 250 RPM. As expected it made a hole in a beer bottle. There was a small amount of chip out that I attribute operator error. If I had any complaint it would be that drill speed on the package said low, very subjective. An RPM would be more helpful.

I used the bit to drill holes in ceramic flower pots to add drainage. It worked quite well for that. The bit started quickly, did not “skitter around,” and cut quickly. It also cut cleanly on the entry side of the hole (see photos) but it did leave some chipping on the exit side (see photos). If a hole needs to look clean where it is visible, then you should start drilling on the side that you want to be visible. Flower pots are generally made of softer material that something like porcelain tile and I expect the bit will cut more slowly with porcelain tile.

I mostly use glass and tile bits to put holes in glass bottles for various craft projects. Mostly holes that I can get a set of string lights through. I used to get cheap bits online, but after many broken bottles it just wasn’t worth it any more. Milwaukee bits have always been tough, and as long as you take your time and use them as directed, then you shouldn’t have much issue. I haven’t had an opportunity to try these on tile yet, but I’m glad I have them on hand in case the need arises.

First things first, this is the best drill bit I have ever used on ceramic tile. The bit drilled clean, precise holes with no chipping on the front or backside of the tile. When I received the Milwaukee ¼” Glass and Tile Drill Bit, I was anxious to put it to the test because drilling tile is one of my least favorite tasks. As you can see from the photo of the grab bar in my shower, I only used two of the three screws needed to mount the bar properly. That is how much I hate drilling tile. I wanted to test this new tile bit using both my drill and hammer drill. I was curious to see if the hammer drill would make the job easier or if it would crack the tile. However, I will have to wait until I get a new chuck for my drills. Both drills are equipped with the quick-change chucks to accommodate hex drill bit shanks. Because of the round shank, I had to test the Glass and Tile Bit using my drill press, which has a chuck for a round shank drill bit (see shank photo). I was disappointed because it has been my experience that most tile drilling is on installed tile. Using the drill press, I avoided the thrill of watching the bit wander around etching the tile before starting a hole someplace near the mark. At least that is what usually happens, and it is the primary reason I wanted to test using a handheld drill. Some bits bite into the ceramic surface better than others. If you read the fine print on the back of the package, you will see the bit is not recommended for use on porcelain. I have drilled porcelain before using a small diamond hole saw bit. Porcelain is a very hard material. Even so, I wanted to know how this bit would preform on porcelain. (see tile photo with one hole) The result was again perfect. However, it took at least ten times longer to drill a hole in porcelain as compared to ceramic tile. The bit became extremely hot in the process, and I am sure it shortens the life of the bit. So, I was not able to test this drill bit as thoroughly as I hoped, but I can say that it goes through ceramic tile like a charm.

Drilling holes in ceramic floor tiles are very difficult. Porcelain tiles are even more difficult to drill. The first hole I drilled with the MILWAUKEE 3/8 Inch carbide tipped glass and tile drill bit took some time specially since I had the drill set at a low speed. The second hole went faster as I started hole with smaller sized Milwaukee carbide tipped bits and worked my way up.

This is one rugged drill bit. I don't have a tile project in sight, but next one will be much better with this drill bit. Another bonus with this bit is that it can be used with a standard drill. No need for a half inch drill. I had to buy a drill for a new bit once. Drill since died so I'm glad it's no longer needed. This bit is a welcome addition to my collection.

I got the Millwaukee 1/2" carbide tipped glass and tile bit and tried it out on some tile. Worked great very clean hole and was able to drill it pretty fast. When or if using it on glass I would recommend drilling slower and maybe using water to keep the glass cool. These bits also have three flats cut on the shank so you won't have to worry about any spinning in your drill chuck.

I got the Millwaukee 3/8 in. Carbide tipped glass and tile bit sent to me. Tried it out on a round glass bottle it was working great but I ended up breaking the bottle right at the end of a clean hole got in a little bit of a hurry. The next test was a 1/4" think mirror took my time used a little bit of water to keep the glass cool and it worked great.

    So easy to use
I needed to drill two holes into tile in the bathroon shower to install a shower glass. I marked each spot, placed the bit on each spot and with medium pressure the bit drilled through the tile within 5 seconds. I was amazed. No walking or skipping. Amazing bit. I wish i could drill more tile.

I drilled 10 holes in ceramic tile without a problem, drilling slowly with light pressure, and this bit is still sharp enough to do more. Very pleased with this Milwaukee bit!
