I tried regular and mansory bits and it did nothing. I chose this one based on the reviews. I completed 4 holes in about 30 minutes with ceramic tiles. I recommended you cool it down with water on every 15-30 seconds drill so that the bit lasts longer.

I needed a drill bit to install a shower grab bar through ceramic tile in our master bath. A good friend and my do-it-yourself mentor uses Milwaukee drills, saws and other power tools so after reading many positive reviews I purchased this four pack and was very pleased. It went through the ceramic tile quickly, without having to push and cut a clean, even hole.

I got these tile bits for an upcoming bathroom tile installation project. I decided to practice on some items I had around. I was timid to pull the trigger, in case I damaged something, but, it was easy and precise. The drill bit didn't slip off the drill spot, and made a clean hole. The bits are very robust carbide material, and they should last a long time.

I tested the ¼” bit on bottle glass (only disposable glass available). In trying to start the hole, the bit “travelled” along the glass and marked it. See photo. Once it began to cut in, it produced a very fine powder and cut quite slowly. I was being cautious to not press hard to ensure the glass didn’t shatter but I believe I was pressing hard enough for it to cut faster. For glass that was 1/8 to 3/16 thick, it probably took 4 minutes to drill through. Once the bit exited the other side, it did cause some chipping (see photo) on the exit side. Because of that, I recommend holes be started on the side facing outwards so that any chips will be less visible. This will definitely cut a hole without shattering glass. It would be good to know whether or not it can cut faster safely (without causing the glass to shatter) but that will be a future experiment (with safety glasses, long sleeves, and gloves).

I picked these bits for drilling holes in stained glass rather than ceramic tile. In short, they worked on the first hole or 2 but lost their edge and did not continue to work to drill glass but still would drill a clean hole in marble. I initially used a drill press at 700 rpm using the bits dry. I also tried a hand drill with glass submerged thinking that heating of the glass was the issue but still failed at about the same rate. Bottom line, if you need to drill a couple of holes in glass or plan to use on ceramic tile these will probably work but if you need to drill a significant number of holes in glass spend the extra money for a diamond core drill.

This is my review of the Milwaukee 48-20-8988 four piece glass and tile bit set. I just compleated installing a tile shower enclosure and had to install some accessories. I decided to try out these bits. I was pleased with the results. The tile has an irregular surface and the drill bit did not wander from the spot I needed to drill. It did require a bit of force to drill the hole. And a slow drill speed, I would recommend these bits.

I got these bits for a Honey-Do project. I needed to put holes in a Ceramic/Terra-Cotta bowl that was given to my wife a couple of years ago. It didn't have any drain holes, so it wasn't used in the way we desired. I used the 1/4" bit in my Ryobi 1/2 Drill and it cut a hole like butter. I was really impressed with the cutting head of the bit. I've used other ceramic bits without this agressive head and they took longer to bite into the hardened glaze. This bit didn't walk on me but drilled the hole exactly where I marked it. Happy wife - happy life!!

The Milwaukee carbide glass and tile bit set is a set worth having if you need to drill holes in floor tile. Wall tile like the cheap 4 inch square tile is softer than floor tile and basically any masonary bit will drill through, but when it comes to floor tile, specially porcelain tile, it is much harder and tougher to drill. Masonary bits do not really want to work, but these bits do. One tile I drilled a 1/4" hole and on the second tile I found it easier to start with the small bit and work my way up to 1/4"

Over the years I have tried a number of different types of drill bits to use on: tile, glass, brick, concrete, etc. (anything but wood and metal) with varying degrees of success. There is no “magic bullet (bit)” but choosing the drill type that best matches the material is the best you can do. These drill bits from Milwaukee are for glass and tile. I used one (see photos) on 3/8” thick porcelain tile - a tough task for any bit. Go slow, with a slow speed and steady pressure, using a lubricant (I used oil) to keep the bit from overheating, and eventually you will make it to the other side. The resulting hole was extremely clean with no chipping. For its purpose, it’s a good tool.

The drill I used for my trial worked amazingly well. I have always had to use the grout joints to hang things on the backsplash and the locations may not always have been in the best spot. This will take care of that as now I can place things wherever I want. I used the 1/8 inch bit on a piece of ceramic tile and it made a very clean hole. I pushed a little more forcefully at first, but took it slowly, stopping to measure my depth several times on this trial. It is recommended that you use more pressure until the end and then just let the drill do the work to finish it up. This will prevent breaking the tile or possibly drilling through the wall into plumbing or electrical wiring. There was a little dust generated so you might want to wear a dust mask along with your safety goggles. The drill will get hot, so be careful not to touch it after use. You might want to use a small set punch to mark your spot before drilling to keep the drill bit from walking. These work on glass as well and are a very nice set of bits.

The drill bit set did the job without any problems. It’s a bit costly though I think.

Milwaukee tools are top of the line. Bits drilled through ceramic tile easily. Keeping the bit wet helped alot. They maintain their sharpness, excellent bit set to have

They worked very well. I did destroy 2 of them. but they did the job.

Cuts great. Was worried it would walk on me when I started drilling but with a slow start and some pressure it seated great and made quick work of the tile I was drilling.

A bit pricey but it worked great to drill tile without cracking it.

I have only used it once but the bit went through ceramic tile like butter. Run your drill on low speed and take your time. I also placed painters tape on the tile to keep the bit from sliding.

Drilling porcelain/ceramics can be very unforgiving. These made clean holes; no cracking or splitting at all.
