Our growing media products are not sterilized and may contain microorganism including fungus. In fact, fungus mold has been scientifically proven to improve the growth of plants by releasing nutrients from the organic material that growing media are typically lacking. The fungus mold only becomes a problem if there is an overgrowth. Overgrowth occurs when the soil mulch is too wet. The mold and fungus that grows on soils and mulch will not harm plants and is safe for people and pets to be around although as always, we recommend you use gloves when handling for soil that has not been used yet allow it to dry out on some newspaper outside before using. For soil that has already been used, allow the plants to dry out a bit between waterings. It will not hurt the plant to allow the soil to dry between waterings but will typically eliminate any mold fungus growth which needs the extra moisture.
