If it is not marked, and not white, I have trouble telling ABS and PVC apart. This cement is a life saver for me. I can use it for both, as well as joining the two. It is as easy to use as PVC cement. The green color makes it obius what cement you have used. It has done a good job of bonding for me, even with pressurized piping. I guess it isn't allowed in all areas, but that isn't a problem here.

We put in new PVC pipe to our RV so, because we had both ABS and PVC piping, we used this transition cement - worked great. We have used this brand once before so were used to it, the green coloring makes it easy to see the cure time and once it was dried, seemed to be extremely strong. We used it in 4 areas for our RV piping, and 2 areas for our shed workshop.

Below I tried to capture the different types of PVC, ABS and plastic conduit piping I have personally used this product on. Except for high pressure water supply lines, this is just about the ONLY cement one needs to facilitate all sorts of repairs or installations without worry. I have used it to connect PVC drains to ABS drainpipes with never a leak or failure. For supply lines, I take no chances and use a primer and the specific type of cement for the material I have selected

This Oatley 16 ounce can of ABS transition cement is perfect for joining ABS to PVC. Most of the time people use this is when you are connecting new plumbing to old sewer lines. Make sure you cut the pipes in a nice straight line. Make sure the pipes are free of debris. Also make sure you use the Oatley purple primer and cleaner to make sure the cement will bond well. Add the cement and give the pipes a little twist and you will be good to go.

ABS and PVC are different, and cement is not universal. Hence Oatey’s transition cement—clean both pipes like normal, deburr and then clean again if needed, prime the PVC only, then apply to both the ABS and the PVC, insert and twist until it bottoms out, then hold it steady and count to 30 so the pipes don’t back away from each other. Leave it alone for 2-15 minutes (depending on size of pipe) and then in 15 minutes it will be fully cured for me here in AZ with our high temps, low humidity, and no real pressure since it’s ABS. See Oatey’s set up and curing times chart here: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/51/51d30559-9062-4746-88e0-757e714a9360.pdf Locate your pipe type and diameter, run over to temperature, and your times are listed. Easy peasy. Though silly, I really do like the green color; it makes me smile every time. The green in the joint of the two pieces stands out for the inspection, too.

Oatey 16 oz. ABS Transition Cement is ideal for my most recent project. It is applied to a 3/4 Schedule 40 low pressure drainage system. The glued pieces will remain one piece. However, it may need to be repositioned because the project will continue to grow over time. Therefore I have also glued end caps that can be removed, and re-glued as needed. Oatey Transition Cement sets fast get allows an immediate adjustment if needed. I'm confident it will hold under the light pressure required. The light green color is easy to see so I'm not over applying. Odor is low. I only applied very little glue which was less then was on the dauber. No need for a second application of glue. I'm very happy with the clean finish.

This review is for Oatey's ABS to PVC Green Transition Cement, Item # 30925. This specific cement comes in a green 16 ounce can that should last more homeowners quite some time. A lot of people think that one cement will work on all different types of pipe materials. That's not true. Each pipe is joined with its own cement; ABS for ABS pipe, PVC cement for PVC pipe. One exception is like this product, transition cement, that is used in those applications where you need to weld PVC and ABS pipe together. And for that, it is perfect. When I used this cement, I found that if had a very fast setting time, as in the weld is secure and can't be changed. In warm settings, this can be seconds so be sure of your connection before you apply this cement, Full curing time is recommended at 2 hours above 60 degrees and up to 24 hours below 60 degrees F. Oatey is a well regarded American company in business since 1916 and their products are MADE IN THE USA. This is a highly recommended product from the Oatey line.

The Oatey 160z. ABS tranition cement is something all plumbers will need sometime. If you have to cement a transition joint between ABS and PVC pipe. this solvent cement is what to use. I have done many pluming jobs for friends and have needed this cement at times. This cement is a medium-bodied green colored cement for easy identification by inspectors. Very good quality product.

Good glue for joining pvc and abs pipes. It’s another good quality glue from the Oatey line of products. It’s recommended for up to 6” pipes and once cured makes a solid, long lasting worry free joint. Always test fit your pipes before applying glue and always make sure the pipe ends are clean and well coated before joining. When done correctly this glue produces a permanent joint.

I needed to fix some drain pipes at my house and I chose the Oatey ABS to PvC Green Transition Cement to help. Oatey has NSF approved cement for this application called ABS to PVC Transition Green Cement. This transition cement is for applications where the interior building drain and the exterior sewer drain are made of dissimilar plastics, generally ABS and PVC. Check with your local building officials before attempting this application to insure it is approved in your municipality. This worked great for me.

This is an excellent product and very smooth in its application. One of the things that is a little frustrating when using PVC or ABS glue is it becomes over coagulated and difficult to apply. The consistency of this glue remains after continual uses. It applies easily and evenly. The pipes slipped into one another with ease. I also liked that the glue did not dry so quickly that you felt rushed to put the pipes together but could apply the glue carefully and have plenty of time to put the pipes together. Once placed together it adhered quickly. The color is a bonus.

I got the The Oatey 16 oz. Transition Cement that joins ABS and PVC pipe. It is advertised as being ideal for applications where the structure is plumbed in ABS and the local sewer system is plumbed in PVC. Before you purchase it you should check your local building codes to make sure transition cement is allowed. storage and use must be between 40 - 100 Deg F. it should be stirred or shaken before use, and be disguarded if it is gelled. This product can not be thinned. pipe should be cut square and chamfered , make sure to check dry pipe fitting, pipe should go easily up into fittings until it bottoms out, parts should fit snugly. coat both parts, avoid puddling, and assemble quickly, while cement is still a liquid. parts can be pushed in straight or be rotated. hold parts together for 30 seconds, 15 min. until parts can be handled, and 2 hours for full cure. EXPLOSIVE VAPORS - do not smoke, expose to heat, sparks and or flame use in a open area or if ventilating use explosion proof equipment, wear NOSH respirators for organic solvents. protection should be used to prevent skin contact. Now for why I got it, I have 2000 liter a hour filter systems for large turtle tanks where abs plastic transitions into cpvc, of course at the transition point it can have a leak and air can get into the system or water can leak out. Since pvc pipe cement does not bond well to abs plastic I got this product to try out. This did indeed bond the two together, now the only question is how long will the bond hold and how strong is it. How ever the answer to that question could take 6 months to a year or more, so at this point I am calling it good.

Oatey provides superior plumbing products; this is one that makes plastic plumbing assembly a breeze. I used this product when draining a pavilion roof. (Photo 1) I assembled ABS down-comers and made nipples from their excess lengths to join the fittings and clean-outs. Then, to quickly enlarge the buried discharge diameter to accommodate the accumulated flow (I avoided convoluted tubing because of low-flow scour velocities) I adapted to PVC. Green Transition Cement made this simple. Do remember that purple primer still should be applied to the PVC side of the joint. The green cement is simply swabbed onto both sides, then one pushes and turns - just like any other plastic plumbing cement. Success with this use encouraged me to look at other situations where ABS-PVC joinery would eliminate fittings and/or threaded joints. My current targets include simplifying low head laundry pump drains (where the pit is ABS compatible) and condensate pump reservoirs - both of which require foot (or check) valves commonly with PVC bodies. (Photo 2) Now I can minimize the number of fittings (while preserving a maintenance union) and simultaneously avoid banded (Fernco) couplings.

This is the large can of ABS transition cement, 16 oz. This works well to cement Black sewer ABS pipe to the white PVC that us DIY or professional plumbers use. Since these 2 types of PVC are of a different compound, the best way to cement the ABS to PVC is to use this transition cement. As you can see from the can, this in green in color, this way we can identify the difference types of cement and use the correct one for the connection of pipes as needed. I used this to connect a white PVC connector to a gray pipe, the 3rd picture shows the green cement on the gray pipe. It is holding well. This cement seems a bit thinner than the heavy duty white PVC cement I usually use.

Perfect for jobs requiring plumbing transition from the Black ABS to White PVC pipes/fittings. I use various Oatey PVC cement products including the purple primer in a variety of applications including sprinklers and pool plumbing. The light avocado green cement is made specifically for ABS to PVC. It does not require a primer like the PVC cement. Follow the 3 step process of applying to pipe, then to coupler and a second time to the pipe. Insert pipe into coupler with a slight twist. The various product colors are important when working with inspectors. The purple primer is easily seen on white PVC pipes. The light avocado green cement is also easily seen on either the ABS or PVC pipe/fittings.

Failed for me
I used this transition cement yesterday to join pvc to abs and also pvc to pvc. Primed joints, applied cement, pushed pipe into joint, twisted and let set. This morning I noticed one pipe that still hadn’t been attached at the other end looked like it had moved. I pulled it right out the cement didn’t bond!! This is under a cabinet I have to pull kitchen cabinets back out to redo it with another cement

Thank you for leaving a review. This is a transitional cement only for use from ABS to PVC, not for use for PVC-to-PVC connections. Primer is never to be applied to ABS. Primer can be applied to the PVC part of the connection. If you have any further questions reach out to us at technical@oatey.com Oatey

I have used many of the Oatey product line in the past and they have all worked with great results. The ABS transition cement also worked well and is used for low pressure transition lines connecting ABS lines to PVC lines up to 6 inches in diameter. The cement itself is green in color and the dauber is included in the can for easy application. Depending on the diameter of the pipe, setup time range from 2 minutes for the small pipes to 15-30 minutes for the large pipes.

The cement is for transition applications where you join PVC (white) to ABS (black) pipes. The color is green for plumbing inspectors to identify that the correct cement was used in the transition from PVC to ABS. You can also use it for PVC to PVC. You will need good ventilation to use this product. Be prepared to work as quick as possible because this glue dries in seconds which means that you must do the setup before hand.

first off this product is very messy and does not come off the skin very easy. it is very thin for a glue and it's green. but the glue does hold very well to everything. the pvc will stay together forever. this glue is strong and will not let go once it is set. it does work on other plastics but again it is messy. i remade a whole section of plumbing that had leaked forever. but it does not leak anymore and all the fittings are very secure.

Being a do it yourselfer, I found this ABS Transition Cement useful in repairing our in ground sprinkler system. Since the cement has to be wet went the contacts between the two pipes are made one must work very quickly once the cement is applied. If the cement does dry, simply reapplying the cement and then quickly assembling the pieces solves the problem.

The 16 OZ. ABS TRANSITION CEMENT is a great product I used for joining PVC pipe with ABS in a sewer drain system spanning 12- feet. It went on well without the usual dripping and runny waste associated with most pipe cements. The 16 ounce can was provided a considerable dollar saving over the smaller cans. I would recommend this product and I will use it on the next project.

Used this cement to bond plastic piping to PVC caps and some Pex tubing. Mind you this was for a utility project, not a plumbing project. Was quite surprised as to the glue not bonding as well as I had imagined after drying even over night. Perhaps I had the wrong materials figured for the glue, but when I went over to regular PVC glue, everything bonded well, but not sure if it would have held up in a plumbing application.

This glue is a life saver when got that rare occasion when u have to glue pvc to abs. Kinda like a one trick pony. I found myself using it for my dust collection system. Most of the run is pvc but the fittings transitioning to tools are abs. System should b air tight. That’s what where this glue came into play. It’s strong. I used it on 4 inch fittings. Once I applied glue to both sides I held it together for about 20 secs. Holds good. Make sure there’s a lot of ventilation. Smells pretty strong. Good product though.

The ABS transition cement for PVC was perfect for my needs. I've used the cement application for installing PVC for main sump pump and my kids mini soccer net that he wanted. Prior to applying the cement to the PVC, make sure to do a dry fit first because the cement does dry quickly. Also, follow the instructions to the tee to make sure you apply enough of the cement. For example, make sure to twist the PVC 1/4 of the way to make sure the whole fitting has some cement and its evenly applied.

This glue is excellent when joining ABS (black pipe) and PVC (white pipe). Works well when making transition connections of the two types of pipe. No primer is needed. I noticed on the label that is is not intended for 'high pressure connection'. I do have some left over glue but am not sure if it would be good for general pvc connections such as sprinkler fittings.
