My Little Peace Of Ground Magic
Thanks to these OldCastle Planter Blocks, I designed and built a series of raised herb garden beds off of my kitchen patio that are all connected and terraced up my awkward backyard slope. I don’t have a saw, so the helpful staff at Home Depot cut the 2x6x8 pressure treated boards in half, and they even brought the materials outside and loaded them into my SUV! I ended up with four raised and terraced garden beds, two on each side, plus a center access area that I filled with river rock and flagstones. I added solar lights that bring extra ambiance and magic at night! The result is even better than I envisioned, designed, and built myself! And I can’t wait to build some more!

These planter wall blocks are just the thing I was looking for to create a set of raised garden beds. They enable you to customize your garden bed in accordance with your taste and need. I'm building mine 5 blocks high, so that we don't strain our backs to bend over to work in the garden. Making the beds taller does present some interesting engineering challenges. The taller the wall, the more force there is exerted on the wall by the soil inside. I'm using planks on top of the raised bed walls not only for a nice looking finish, but also to tie the corners together so the walls don't lean out. For the wooden walls, I'm using pressurer treated lumber for appearance and longevity. Don't worry, modern pressure treated lumber does not contain arsenic any longer. But to keep the chemicals out of the soil, I treated the inside facing surfaces of the lumber with boiled linseed oil. I also lined the inside of the walls with garden barrier cloth. The top planks are satin stained common redwood.

Zoya’s Raised Garden Bed
These Oldcastle blocks are awesome! My 18 year old daughter decided she could make a garden bed after we discovered this system. I am so proud that she planned her 3 ft. wide X 12 ft. long garden planter and virtually completed it independently. I helped with the saw. I highly recommend them! Can’t wait to buy more next year to add to her creation in our garden area. You won’t regret it!
