The insulation is NOT sealed on the edges. So insulation is everywhere on ALL of the edges and you must touch it. It's worthless. It's so bad I would like to return this for a full refund...I just got it today and opened the box. Why wasn't this disclosed with the product???

Worth the money because it takes less then a minute to set up. You need this if you install an attic stairs. Saves on heating bills in the New Hampshire winters.

Very easy to install right out of the box and blocked off cold air from the attic coming into our mater bedroom. Helped change the room temperature at least 20 degrees. Very helpful with this last cold front we had of several days of below freezing temperatures. Also very easy to move out of the way when needing to re-access the attic area.

Being new to single-family homeownership in a New England winter, as a 70+ female I was able to easily lift, unfold and tuck the insulator all around the stair opening - by myself. The change in temperature was evident before I finished retracting the attic stairs. I expect that my heating bills will drop noticeably in the future, in which case this item will have paid for itself in one or two months of fuel non-use. And I didn't even have to build it myself, it was ready to use out of the box. Well worth the money.

Great product. I was amazed that almost immediately after installing the temperature below the pulldown stairs was the same as the rest of the house. My t-stat was in the vicinity of the pulldown too so I am sure this will help on the electricity bill. I am upset I did not buy this earlier. Arrived on-time and in good condition. Highly recommend.

I bought this grudgingly, because of the price. I read reviews how it sinks down and collapses once it's installed. Well, it's true it does. And also the arms on the sides of the Attic Stairs, and the Steps themselves tear the Insulation when retracting the stairway. The next day I was ready to return it. So, I went up into the Attic to take it down. But, I noticed it was doing a good job on the attic draft. So I thought I had to find a way to make it work. I went back into Home Depot and got three sticks of PEX Pipe, 1/2" x 5 foot(or close to it). I spent just over 5 dollars for the 3 pieces of pipe. I cut about one foot off of each pipe and BOWED them in a half circle. I put a nail on each side of the Roof Truss, not the Stairway Frame. About 12" from one end of the stair opening, and 12" from the other end of the opening. And I put a nail on each side in the center. I put the pipe over each nail to hold the them in place. Now it stays up, and pushes the insulation away from the stairway arms and folding stairs. I wish Owens Corning would supply 3 Spring Straps to hold the insulation in place. But, at least I got to keep this product, because it does a great job.

Great product
Product is sturdy and not flimsy. I had to put some additional insulation around the door to raise it a bit so the stairs hinges would not tear into the product.

Easy as pie to install, just make sure you get 4 sheets of insulation for the base.
I hemmed and hawed over a way to take care of the awful draft that would creep around my attic door and render my house freezlng at night. I looked around at various caps and was confused by the measurements necessary and the tribulations necessary to custom fit them. Not for me. I am a single girl and I just want it fixed, now. This thing was SUPER easy to install. I just looked at pictures on the box and followed the pictures. I didn't have insulation surrounding my door, I had plywood floors, so when I bought this item I also bought 4 pieces of R30 insulation. Laid them in a square over the floor around the opening. Then opened the pup tent and just put it on top. I immediately felt a difference. It was like a thermal barrier. no cold comes down, no heat goes up. It is just a simple seal. And it cost me 37.00 Said 47.00 at the store, but the clerk met my request to meet the advertised price on Online. So that was easy.

Simple design that I will improve
I recently had an energy audit conducted and found that the worst performing area of my home was the hatch leading to the attic. It was suggested that I purchase an insulating cap to help conserve heat/AC. Looking around there were some expensive options.
I ended up purchasing this. My one concern is that the bottom of the cap is exposed insulation. I have to drag the cap over some plywood and I don't want it to catch on anything. The one change I am going to add is some strips of duct tape over the bottom to protect the insulation.
I also purchased a new wireless thermostat that is fantastic!

Works well, a little pricey
As others note, you can make one of these for less money; having said that, it is really convenient. It looks like a silver triangular tent, about 1 inch thick, that has silver tape/covering over that layer of insulation, and easily covers a standard attic closet ladder opening. The silver covers everything except the bottom, where the insulation shows through. Would have been nicer to have a foam bottom covering.
Does keep cold air out . . . does the job

Built a frame for support
Essentially foil-faced insulation on both sides in the form of a pup tent. After reading some of the reviews, I made 2 improvements: (1) I had some foil tape and used it on the open ends to help add rigidity and (2) built a little frame out of 1/2" pvc pipe. The pvc rests in the frame of the staircase and just high enough to hold up the insulation but not lift if from making contact with surrounding wood.

No skeletal structure to this. It’s a floppy mess. They could’ve given this some structure like tent poles

Basic but effective
This is an insulation “tent” that you settle over the opening to the attic. The fold up stairs fit in there fine. It prevents the air moving between the attic and upstairs and unexpected bonus: it muffles the noise from the HVAC unit. As to durability: there used to be a hard polystyrene attic stair insulator that HD carried years ago - my dad had one, and that could be superior as it has lasted like, fifteen years so far. Fingers crossed for 5 years with this one.

This is a thick blanket of Fiberglas shaped like a tent, with silver layer on the inside and outside. Because it's so thick and large, it took a few minutes to wrestle it up in the attic opening and get into place. I didn't like that the bottom edge was open to the Fiberglas, I wish that had been sealed so it wouldn't get on my hands, because that's where you have to hold it. Other than that, it seems to be an easy way to insulate the stairway.
