It is far more attractive, practical, and stronger that way. The post anchor drove easily into Florida sand, I can't testify to any other soil. It comes with holes for decking screws to secure the post, but I drilled them slightly larger and used galvanized lag bolts and washers. There is also a drain hole to prevent premature post rot. All in all very well designed and of great build quality. A great value for the money. Make sure to check with your utilities before hammering this into the ground.
