Now, there is no excuse to get those squiggly things. These bulbs are cheaper than the squiggly things, and the efficiency is currently unbeaten. They even beat the CREE bulbs for efficiency. No, these are not expected to be as durable as the higher brandmates or the CREE, and you cannot dim these. For applications where you will be leaving lights on for long periods and need to climb dangerous ladders to change them, I recommend instead the more expensive brand mates or the CREE.
However, so many locations inside your house will never see 10,000 hours of use. These bulbs are the perfect solution for those situations where you turn on the light for a few minutes or less at a time, and you cannot justify spending more on a light bulb with higher life. You do not want a squiggly thing there because they will simply burn out (and maybe even burn down your house while they are at it). LED lights are perfect for these situations because very short cycles do not affect life, and that light bulb in the closet or hallway is usually on only a minute or less at a time. With the high efficiency of these bulbs, you save electricity. And, that excuse that you will never reach payback on the electricity fails with the low price of these bulbs. Yes, the life is reduced. But, you will probably never reach that limit in the closet.
These bulbs are also excellent in bedroom lamps and in the bathroom fixtures not exposed to excessive moisture. The low color temperature is perfect for those using them to light their way for those midnight snacks, too. If you want task lighting, however, I recommend other bulbs that have a 5000 or 6500 K temperature--such as the CREE or the Philips lights that have a 5,000 K temperature.
