Ive used this firelace grate for 20 days and it is already showing signs of failure. Poor quality metal was used to build this product and is not withstanding the heat from a fire

Didn't last a season- started melting to the floor of our fireplace after only a couple of months. Now it's a melted down mess, see picture. Screen has disintegrated and broken to pieces. Wish I'd purchased something else. *took me many tries under different browsers to leave this review, not sure if negative reviews are prevented if at all possible. I do love Home Depot- just not this purchase.

Within two weeks of purchase the mesh has burned threw. The hot coals just fall threw the bottom.

My old grate was 30" wide between the front legs and 26" wide between the rear legs, with a depth of 12.75". My old grate fit my fireplace perfectly, so when I read that the dimensions of this grate were exactly the same as my old one, I ordered it. When it arrived, I took it out of the box, and tried to put it into my fireplace, it wouldn't fit. How could this be??? First I checked the box (see photo #1). It says that this is the 30" grate. Then I checked the instructions (see photo #2). It says that this is the 30" grate. I measured the width between the front legs (see photo #3). It is 30 7/8". I measured the width between the rear legs (see photo #4). It is 28 3/8". And finally, I measured the depth (see photo #5). It is 14 3/8". And that's why it didn't fit. The instructions say to contact the custom service department before returning to my retailer, so I will call them on Monday.

I wasn’t concerned with the quality of this grate for actually burning wood, as mine isn’t a working fireplace, merely decorative. My plan was to place candles on this grate and thought this would work well since it had the mesh bottom. However, the grate doesn’t sit level and wobbles, which could be a problem with burning candles. (And I know that the new concrete fireplace floor is level.) Also, the mesh ‘ember retainer’ doesn’t go all the way to the steel bar on one side in the front. (I found this out when I picked it up and cut my finger on the end of the exposed metal mesh.) For those reasons I am not particularly happy with this product.

This 1/2 inch square steel bar constructed, 7-bar fireplace grate with ember retainer is well made and functional. It’s 33 inches long and roughly 13 inches deep with welded construction and all finished in black. It’s sturdy and will hold up to the weight of the logs as well as having the ember retaining wire. It is high enough that it will help to promote air flow for a good burn.

Very attractive. The quality is superb. Aesthetically pleasing. We had one in our fireplace but this one is much nicer. I would highly recommend. We don't use our fireplace for actual fires. Will use it more for a centerpiece. I cannot comment how it holds up under an actual fire. However the way is constructed leads me to believe that would hold up just fine. I would highly recommend to any homeowner who has a fireplace.

This fireplace grate looks nice, and seems to be sturdy enough. The welds do not appear to be very substantial, but should last quite a while if you don't abuse the grate. Note that the 27 inch measurement is at the legs, which is a ways back from the front, so it was the largest I could fit into my 30 inch fireplace. The only issue I have had with this grate is that the steel rods are much farther apart than the old one. The expanded steel mesh holds the embers in place in the middle, but it actually allows more embers to fall through at the front and back. You need to take care of your fire to keep all the embers in the middle, but then it works wonderfully.

This log grate is a perfect size for our 27” wide (rear) x 34” wide (front) x 18” deep fireplace. We really like the sturdy design and best of all this grate has a mesh grille which prevents the fire starters and smaller kindling twigs from falling out of the grate as the fire is being started. The grate can be pushed all the way to the rear wall of the firebox in our fireplace which make sure that the smoke is drawn up the chimney flue instead of into the living room. The real test will come after a few months of roaring fires as this will test the integrity of the mesh and the ½” steel bar which sagged and then disintegrated after two seasons on our other less expensive log grate which costs about half the price of this one.

I love the ember retainer, as my old fireplace grate often let logs drop through before they were completely burned, causing the hot-burning coals at the end of the burning session to sit in the ashes and continue burning for a very long time. By keeping the air flowing around them, they burn more completely and more reliably. Take note of the measurements! My fireplace opening is 30 inches so I ordered the 30 inch grate. Because the measurement is at the widest point, which is several inches back from the front of the grate, it would not fit within my fireplace. I thought I could bend the legs just a bit to make it work, so I heated a corner of the leg with a torch and hit it a time or two with a blacksmith hammer. Every single weld on that leg broke at once. I know that's my fault and this grate is probably sturdy enough for normal use, but be aware that it cannot handle abuse well.

I have a 38" wide firebox brick fireplace and it is hard to find an affordable wider width grate to fit. I chose this 33" so I would have a couple of inches clearance on each side but I think I should have gotten the next size up. This one will work fine though. The steel bars are 1/2" thick so it is a lighter weight to lift and handle compared to my older heavier one that has 1" bars. The steel/material seems sturdy and made of good material but I am not sure how it will hold up over the long haul especially with larger fires with more intense heat. The grate is wider but the depth is narrow, not very deep, so it does limit the amount of logs you can place. Time will tell how well this grate performs. The ember retainer seems to help hold the embers! It is not a tight weave of metal so ashes do fall through as they should. I can't wait until winter to really use it. I will update this review in a few months after I have used it consistently.

I had this item shipped to the store for pick-up. It was a good idea to go to the web site to see the different size options available to get a grate that fit my fireplace. Very solid and sits level. I'm hopeful that the mesh grating welded in place stands up to the the heat without being deformed. Two uses and so far, so good.
