Exactly what we wanted!!!
We wanted a stain that would give our cabin (which we built log by log ourselves) a rustic charm; this did not disappoint. It toned down the yellow of the pine while allowing the character of the knots and wood grain to easily be seen. It went on easily and the wood took it quickly. A 5 gallon bucket covered our 30x42 cabin perfectly. We did order 2 additional gallons to stain the log siding that will cover our add on room and dormer.

I put 3 coats on wood and it barely looked gray.I had to use a towel, because it was too watery to use paint brush or sponge brush.I got a refund at local store and bought oil based paint instead.

Preserva Wood Seaside Gray is an oil based, semi-transparent gray tint. Either the product was not stirred completely, or you might just prefer a darker gray tint. Preserva Wood is formulated to be very thin (like water) so that it penetrates deep into your wood. Preserva Wood is easily applied with an oil based brush, or stain pad.

Good wood stain, no issues. Painted gate posts seaside gray, to match gray metal of gate. Come see out light, but it’s a gray tint which removed the yellow from the natural pine, which I wanted. Would recommend.

I just applied this stain to our new deck & screened-in porch so I can't comment on durability, yet. The color was exactly as shown in advertisements....the price was extremely reasonable compared to similar products.....delivery was great...actually showed up a day early.

I have used this product before on the same deck. I carefully power-washed the deck and put the stain on the deck the next day. It went on easily with a roller and brush. Portions were not dry for several days but most was. I blame the heat an especially the humidity for that. I live the color but most of all my wife liked it. Good choice + good color = Happy Wife

So far so good. Applied easily and was exactly what we wanted for color. We wanted our shed to look like it had weathered gray through time and that's exactly what it dried to resemble. Goes on rather blue in hue but dries a faint, transparent gray. We applied it on rough, not milled lumber so it really soaked in. Now we wait to see how it does in protecting and preserving.

I recently just sided my barn/garage with rough cut pine stained with this seaside gray semi-transparent oil-based wood stain. I'm really pleased with the finished product. I was going for the aged barn board look and it comes pretty close. Coverage estimates are accurate. product is a bit pricey but I asked for a discount since I was buying so much of it (30 gallons) and Home Depot gave me 10% off code to enter. All I did was ask. The only thing that I'm unsure about is the longevity of this product. will I have to re-stain every few years or will it last 10-15 years. Time will tell.

This product is a big lie. The color isn't anything like what is pictured. The picture is a nice even deep grey... Even on a light pine this is bairly tinted. The tshirt I used to wipe off the extra stain which was already light blue, isn't half as dark as what is pictured here. What could be more absorbent than a 100% cotton tshirt? Now I'm going to have to rethink my whole project!.....

Preserva Wood Seaside Gray is a semi-transparent oil based stain that allows the grain of the wood to show through. The wood that you stain will influence the final appearance. Darker woods will appear darker and vice versa. Woods that do not absorb much stain (like pine), will appear lighter. The color that you see on a computer, or in a brochure, is simply for reference sake. To know how the stain will look on your wood, you need to test it first. You can request a sample by calling our toll free number, 800-797-2537. Unfortunately, you cannot match the color of a transparent wood stain the way you can match a solid paint as they are different types of products.

I applied it two weeks ago and it is still tacky

Response from Preserva ExpertOct 8, 2023
Hi Mike! It sounds like you applied a little too much stain and did not wipe off the excess stain that was not absorbed by the wood. When the stain cures on the surface of the wood, it creates a film that is slightly tacky. Please email us at info@preservaproducts.com for a quick fix.

It sounds like you may have forgotten to stir the stain prior to applying it to your wood. Our stains should be stirred prior to and during their application in order to achieve the desired color. The Olympic stain you mentioned is water based, not oil based. Preserva Wood is oil based.

This semi transparent stain is like water. It hardly adds any color at all, certainly not gray as I was expecting. Not liking the over all look.

Preserva Wood is a true oil-based wood stain and is formulated to be very thin for superior penetration. It is not like paints or water-based stains you may have used previously. It is also important to stir the product regularly, per the instructions on the can, to make sure that the pigments in the product are properly dispersed when you use it. If the stain is not mixed properly, then the color will not be there when you apply the product.

Preserva Wood will dry in 24-48 hours after application, depending on the temperature and humidity in your area. It's also important to apply the correct amount of stain (not too much) so it will dry properly.

Poor product very watery despite stirring. It went on to bare sanded wood and turned it yellowish orange. Sorry I didn’t see all the other reviews before I purchased

Preserva Wood Semi-transparent Seaside Gray is a penetrating oil based stain, which is as thin as water, even though it does not contain any water. If you are used to using water based stains, our oil based stain will seem much thinner. We do this so that the product can penetrate deep into the wood. With oil based stains, it is always important to stir the pigments frequently, so they don't settle to the bottom of the can. Every 10-15 minutes works well, or each time that you add more stain to your paint pan.

Your results will depend on the type of wood you are applying the stain to. More porous wood will absorb more stain that smooth wood, for example. It's always important to test the stain in an inconspicuous area to determine your satisfaction with the tint, prior to staining the entire project.

This is the best stain ever. We’ve used in the past. You barely ever have to RE-stain. I do not know why the company doesn’t advertise this product. Leaves the lovely look of the wood, doesn’t hid it like paint. And you don’t have to paint yearly to keep nice looking.

I followed the directions. I have experience with oil-based stain. There does not seem to be as much pigment in this product as other semi-transparent stains. Maybe there are no industry standards for amount of pigment in stains.

Always stir the stain well before and during use to make sure that all pigment is dispersed evenly through the stain. It's also a good idea to stain a test area on your wood and allow to dry overnight in order to determine your satisfaction with the final color.

Seaside Gray is a semi-transparent stain, so if you are looking for something darker, check out our Driftwood Gray semi-solid stain. As always, be sure to stir the stain thoroughly before and during application to make sure all of the pigments on the bottom of the can have been mixed into the stain.

Didn’t even change the color of the wood. I was honestly surprised. I stained one board and had my wife tell me which one I stained and she could not see which one was stained. If you want a grey wood this is not the product for you.

Response from Preserva ExpertAug 20, 2020
Seaside Gray is a semi-transparent stain that will give your wood a light gray tone, depending on the appearance of your wood when you apply the stain. Dark wood, for example, may not change much. It's always a good idea to test a small area, as you did, to determine whether the final appearance meets your needs. Please note that you should stir the stain thoroughly prior to applying and you should allow the wood to dry for 24 hours before evaluating the final appearance.

after applying this stain to pressure treated deck the areas which I stained suddenly had black mold appear! the mold seems to be in areas in which the rain pools. deck was very dry before application. I've never seen this before and I am not happy with this problem!

Preserva Wood does not create or support mold and mildew. It is likely that the mold was on or in the wood prior to applying the stain. Mold and mildew should be treated with the appropriate products for remediation. Feel free to send pictures of your project to us at info@preservaproducts.com and we will be happy to assist you.

Since you can't really tell what a penetrating stain will look like from a picture, you should always follow the instructions on the can and test a small area for color satisfaction prior to staining your project. Different woods, in different conditions, will appear different after staining. Also, making sure that you have stirred the stain prior to and during your project are important for proper application.

First, we want to make sure that the can of Seaside Gray was stirred prior to and during use. We also think it's a good idea to do a small test section and allow it to dry overnight, so you can evaluate the final appearance prior to staining your entire project.
