Purchased the brush system to clean out our dryer vent tubing during a remodel. Small brush worked just fine on the dryer. The round brush used for the vent tubing also worked well, removing a surprising amount of lint.
However, be warned that if you twist the brush cable as you insert the brush, ONLY turn it clockwise. Turning it counter-clockwise will unscrew the brush and leave it in the vent tubing as I did. (sigh) After considerable effort, I was able to retrieve it, and learned a valuable lesson.
So, put some LocTite on the brush threads before using, or only turn the brush clockwise when inserting or removing it from the tube.
Durable, Easy to Clean, works well
easily comes apart
As others have noted, the brush head screws onto the cable attachment. The manufacturer recommends rotating the brush in both directions, which is likely to cause the brush to come off in the vent. If this happens 10 feet into the tube, it's a world of trouble. The advice to use loctite on the brush threads is right on. I removed a substantial amount of lint with this tool. It had enough flexibility to get past the bend at the beginning of my duct setup, but not the 2nd bend in the ceiling. You'll likely have to go at the ductwork from the dryer connection and the exhaust port outside.
The brush worked fine, however the brush head fell off quickly and i had to disassemble my dryer vent pipe to retrieve it. I glued the brush back on (not with the cheap glue that it was originally attached with) and it worked fine. If you get this I would recommend that you remove the brush head before you use it, drill out the hole that the arm fits into and re-glue it (I used superglue and that worked well)
I don't know if improvements have been made to the kit, but I did not have any of the issues I have seen in other comments. I wish the brush handle was 15' instead of 10', but I was able to work around the 10' length.
I purchased this kit to clean out the dryer vent in my rental house (landlord claimed it was clean, but I was able to pull handfulls of lint where the vent enters the wall). The full run of the vent is 26' with three 90 degree elbows. I only turned the vent brush clockwise on the assumption that turning it counter clockwise might cause the brush head to unscrew. I was able to make it through the elbows by putting a slight bend on the wire just after the brush head, then pushed/pulled the handle while rotating the brush clockwise, this got past all of the elbows. I used the brush from both ends of the vent, pushing the brush in as far as I could shove my arm into the vent (this left a couple of feet of vent that I couldn't reach). I also purchased a 30' piece of 1/8" cable. By attaching a couple of supermarket shopping bags to the cable, I was able to blow the cable through the vent with my shop vac. I then attached the cable to the end of the brush handle and pulled the brush all the way through the 26' vent (and repeated this twice). My shopvac (5 gallon capacity) was about half full of lint when I was finished cleaning the vent.
Vacuum attachment was too small to fit on my vacuum so I put a couple of turns of duct tape over the end of the attachment until it would slide snugly into my vacuum tub. I used the attachment to clean my dryer through the lint trap, and to clean out the A/C vents at the registers in my house.
I haven't used the "bottle brush" at all, I was able to clean everything I needed to with the vent brush and vacuum attachment.
Just had a short 5ft straight section that I stuck the brush in and pulled it out, Then I wanted to run it back in while twisting, and checked the head attachment, because I'd read the head can come off it you twists the wrong way, and the head did come off. In trying to 'screw' it back on, the fitting came out. If I had tried to use anywhere near the whole length of the tool - with any pipe turns - don't think it would work.
Not Durable, Difficult to Use
I think this product will work for a long straight dryvent run. Maybe even if it has one 90 degree turn close to access point. My dryer vent run has two 90 degree turns close to access point and as a result I could not get the cable to bend to go around the second turn. I only ordered this product for the 10 foot cable brush and I have don't used the other parts.
