Purchased this product and installed it with the remote. It pulled air but not as strong as we expected from past house fan experienced but were still content. This was until I was getting ready for work one morning and heard a loud bang followed by metal scraping. 1/3 fan blades broke clean off bending the other two causing them to scrape across the protective cage. I currently have not heard back from Quiet Cool Customer service (may reach out to HD). Although it has only been three days.

Overall, I'm very impressed. Excellent quality. Relatively quite.
This is my 3rd home where I have installed a whole house fan. Its pretty quite and pulls a lot of air. I can still hear it, but much quieter than I'm used too. I installed it about 20' from the bedrooms. In the bedrooms, The wind coming in through the windows is much louder than the fan itself. When I'm under the fan, I definitely can hear it. But its not so loud that I can't have a normal conversation. With my other 2 homes, I installed the Tamarack fans. Comparing the installation of the 2 Tamaracks against installing the QuiteCool, the Tamarack is easier. Mainly because the QuiteCool is larger and also needs to be hung. I did like that the switch for the QuiteCool use RF....meaning that all I needed to do was pair the switch to the controller, then mount it in the hallway. The Tamarack has R38 insulation as opposed to R5 for the QuiteCool. But the Tamarack is considerably louder and doesn't pull anywhere near as much air as the QuiteCool. I was impressed with the quality of the QuiteCool. I banged it up pretty good trying to get it installed, and it handled the abuse pretty well. I thought for sure I was going to ripe the tube between the fan and the intake, but there is no signs of abuse. I did add a few scratches to the fan and intake though. I gave a 4 star rating only because of the R5 insulation of the QuiteCool. I would recommend both the QuiteCool and Tamarack, but I'm very impressed with this QuiteCool.

My 1952 house had an old attic fan that disconnected sometime in the 1990s. I thought it was insane I was running the ac when it was cold outside, so I decided to replace the old fan. My wife was hesitant because she was worried about it being loud. I found this fan and decided to give it a try. The old fan was a 30 inch blade, so I just built a little frame for the quiet cool inside the opening. It was easy since the flapper box is light and I could move it around and drill it in at the same time. I used the provided template make the drywall patch. Some tapping latter, it looks like it was always installed there. One thing I really hated about this was the wiring. Its a 2 speed motor, but it comes wired as a 1 speed on a standard wall plug. Do that many people have outlets in their attic, and what is the point of having a 2 speed motor when it comes from the factory not able to run out of the box? It was easy to replace the wiring to accommodate the 2 speed settings, maybe 5 minutes. If you forget to change the wiring you are going to be miserable up a cramped attic trying to move the fan around and changing a wire when it is 110+ degrees in the summer. I bought a 2 speed switch and now I can run it on high and low. I don't know how to put a value on this. It is considerably more pricey than a traditional attic fan which can be had for $300 or less. The more traditional fans can ventilate larger homes, while you would need to buy a larger quiet cool unit. The previous attic fan was not hooked up so I do not know how much quieter this one is, and that is essentially what you are paying for. Had I had a traditional whole house fan, I probably would not be running it because my wife refuses to "live with a helicopter", with the quiet cool we run it almost every day. It has been a cooler summer than usual some I am not sure about the savings we are getting. I would recommend this product if you are wanting an attic fan but are worried about the sound from other types of models. While it is more than double the price of the other fans, it might be worth it for you over the years if you run it a lot.

Wow! This product is awesome! Normally, our AC would kick-on around 10:00 am and run until 9:30 pm. With the quiet cool, our AC unit isn’t turning on until around 3:30 pm. We simply turn the unit on around 9:30 pm, and run for about an hour. Again, we turn it on around 7:00 am and run until around 11:00. We have been maintaining between 68-74 degrees (f) in the house. Note: we live in Central CA where summer time temperatures average 98 in the Summer.

      Stay Cool and Save!!
At first this might seem a bit pricey, but I by the end of summer it will pay for itself. My house A/C takes about 4500 watts while running, and even with solar on my house it still doesn't help enough. This fan saves me over 2000 watts and not only cools the house during the evening, BUT cools down my attic which mean my A/C unit clicks on later during the day. Cool outside air freshens the house and saves me so much money. Easy to install if your a handyman type, and the wireless remote makes everything so much easier. Don't let the cost sway you away!! It's quieter than my A/C unit and I almost forget it's on.

This is a well-made product. I installed it in my garage, which is about 400 square feet. This fan clears the air in there pretty quickly. I know there are fans that are intended specifically for garages, but I wanted something really quiet. It is indeed very quiet. Surprisingly quiet, in fact. My attic is cramped and has angled trusses everywhere, so the installation was a pain. But the job is not complicated or technical. The instructions that come with the fan are not all that great, but there is a fairly decent video on YouTube, and there is a phone number one can call with any questions. I am glad I got this.

Fan was great and quite, only hiccup was installing it in a 102 year old house. Ceiling had multiple layers of ceiling so could not install baffle the way it was meant, had to install from room side up, but my handyman did an excellent job modify it.

This product works great, I only wish we bought it a few years earlier. I installed it a few months back and have been using it ever evening this summer except for one night where it was just as hot outside as it was inside. My Honeywell thermostat sent me an email in the beginning of July that we used out AC 88% less this June than we did last June. It also noted that the weather was 1 degree hotter this year than it was last year. I was skeptical at first for these but several of my neighbors have whole house fans and they all say they love them. You can add us to the list.

Great whole house fan, drops my indoor temperature by 10 degrees during the night. I recommend you install a 3-way switch to control the high/low speed and a timer switch. Install was not too difficult, took about 2 hours to install the fan and damper by myself, pretty straight forward. Electrical took about an hour. If you have doubts or issues there are plenty of videos and install tips available. I had to install mine at 5:00am to beat the heat, if you can install the fan during the cold season:)

Works well and lives up to expectations but comes at a premium price. What makes this system so nice is that it is packaged well and allows for easy installation. There really is not much too this fan system….you could easily duplicate the function at less cost by purchasing an attic gable exhaust fan (HD sells many from just $60), attaching corresponding flex duct, purchase a return air grill, and build a damper. But what QuietCool has done so well is small refinements to each component that all work together with a slick clean look. Just to be clear on operation, the outside temperature needs to be lower than the inside temperature for this system to be effective. In our climate the evenings quickly cool off as the sun sets. But the house can remain hot for hours. The fan allows you to pull in the cool evening air and cool the hot house down. When the outside temperature remains high it does nothing to cool the house, as you are just pulling in more hot air. I installed this 1500 in a small bedroom that is just 10x11’ with a vaulted ceiling. I also added a countdown timer switch that is easily accessible from the room. I can close the door and set the timer for 30 minutes just before going to bed and the room is nice and cool. It is fairly quiet, sounds like a forced air furnace running. Each installation will be different but it does require some DIY skills and perseverance. Attics are typically dirty, cramped places and it can be difficult. If this is not your thing think about adding the cost of installation to the ticket. My installation required that the grill be mounted on a vertical wall to reach the adjacent attic. Rather than purchasing QuietCool’s vertical wall accessory I made a plenum box from sheet goods that straddled studs creating a good seal and assuring the gravity damper would close (see photos). I should mention the new damper design provides a bit of insulation for winter months. The only thing I didn’t like about the new damper is its shiny aluminum finish, which can be seen from inside the room through the grill. I didn’t think anything of it until it was installed, but my wife said something immediately. I corrected it with some flat black spray paint (see before paint photo below) but wish I would have done so before installing. Beyond the inflated price this system works well for most of our summer months and I would recommend it. About my rating: 5 stars – Exceeds all expectations. Better than the competition in all aspects, design, cost, operation, and support (A+). 4 stars – Nicely done. Better than the competition and solves the problem. (B) 3 stars – Works as expected. Has some shortcomings but gets the job done. Might be short in design, cost, longevity, or support. (C). 2 stars – Falls short of expectations and needs improvement. Pass and look elsewhere. (D) 1 star – Fails miserably. Does not get the job done, might even make things worse. Someone at the company should be fired. (F)

This whole house fan is super quiet and efficient - love it! My contractor installed this to replace a 25 year old direct drive fan that was very noisy, even on the low setting. I couldn’t be happier with the way the CL-4700 works and looks.

We've had this fan since last summer and we love it. We live in a 1100 sq ft 1950s bungalow with no central HVAC, and most of the time, the breezes are enough to keep the house cool. It wasn't worth the $2500-$3000 investment plus ongoing electricity costs to install AC for us. The whole house fan really does the trick. Running it at night and getting that huge mass of thermal hot air out of our attic and filling the house with cool air makes an amazing difference, plus it is really that quiet. Our previous house had a traditional (noisy) whole house fan and turning it on was like turning on a jet engine. Our world would stop for ten minutes while we pulled cool air through the house and then we would turn it off so we could talk or watch TV. The QuietCool whole house fan is so quiet we can have conversations, watch TV, and sleep with the fan on. It was so quiet we thought something was wrong when we installed it, but no, it's really sucking air through the house well, just quietly. If you've installed traditional whole house fans, this one is trickier because the fan body is suspended from the rafters instead of being installed right next to the vent. The vent itself is smaller. And yes, it is truly annoying that there are no controls included at this price; we bought the high / low fan switch and a 1/2/4/8 hour timer, both of which I highly recommend.

Overall fairly easy to assemble and work quickly. It's powerful but not enough for a 3000 sf house. You must open the window or you start getting dust from the attic coming back into the house because of the vacuuming action. It'd be nice if there variable speed built in and wireless capable.

The fan was easy to install and the instructions were simple to follow. The fan does make some noise but less than my A/C. My home is 1500 sqft and the CL-3100 pulls plenty of air to cool it off quickly. The installation instructions show the timer switch wired with a neutral. It needs this to power it's timing circuitry. I had previously routed 12/2 romex to the switch location, so I installed a mechanical 12hr countdown timer to only switch the hot (does not require the neutral at the switch). This setup works perfectly. The customer service I received from Home Depot and QuietCool was impeccable. When the fan arrived the damper box had been slightly damaged in shipping. One of the dampers would not lay completely flat. This would have allowed hot air to escape freely into the attic in the winter. I called home depot customer service. They said I could bring it into any store and they would ship me a new one. I asked instead if they could contact the vendor and just ship me a new damper box assembly, there was nothing wrong with the Fan or Trunk. This way I could proceed with the installation on the day I had planned while waiting for the new damper. I was placed on hold for less than 5 minutes and told they would ship a new damper box to me right away. Sure enough, a new damper box free of charge arrived by noon the very next day!

              Quiet Cool CL-3100
I purchased this fan due to the living / dining room A/C running 24/7 and to relieve heat build up in the attic. The installation was fairly easy and instructions were very clear. I opted to run a new 12/2 line from the electrical panel in the basement to the attic so it would be on it's own circuit. This was probably the most difficult part due to finding a "route" to the attic, drilling holes and fishing the 12/2 wire. Oh, and although the house has full ridge and soffit vents I also installed a small gable vent. After I mounted the fan I replaced the "outlet pigtail" with Romex and ran it down to the wall switches along with the power wire. The detailed instructions made it easy. The install took roughly 6 hours. Temps in the attic were 100+/- so, numerous breaks were taken. Overall I'm very satisfied with this fan and would recommend it as well as the 2 speed switch and timer switch. I generally run it for about 2 hours in the early morning and then in the evening for a few hours. As of this date I have not had the need to run the air conditioner at all. If I'm home during the day I pull the air in from the shade side of the house.

So Happy We Bought This Fan
Wanted a quieter whole house fan than the norm so Quiet Cool was our choice and has met our expectations. It was awkward to get in through the attic access but after contacting the manufacturer, who is extremely helpful and polite, we were able install much easier by dismantling the fan motor from the ducting and the ducting from intake vent. We have been able to cool the house as soon as the outdoor temps drop and the attic drops as much as 10-15 degrees within an hour. Overall we are extremely pleased with our purchase and highly recommend it. Although this product performs wonderfully, compared to other whole house fans it is quite a bit more expensive but the reduced noise for us was a true consideration with this purchase.

              Excellent Whole House Fan
After putting off buying a whole house fan for 10-years I'm kicking myself for not having done it sooner. This fan was installed by a professional electrician in a matter of 2-3 hours. It looks excellent, works even better and is nearly silent on "low" mode. Even on high mode it is quieter than a normal window box fan. The airflow is amazing. We live in Southern California where the days are warm/hot and the evenings are cool. With several windows open this fan pulls an incredible volume of air through the house and exhausts it into the attic. We have had the product less than a month, but have cut running our central air conditioning by at least 80%. At this rate, this product will have paid for itself in well less than a year. We installed the Quiet Cool controls including the high-off-low fan speed selector and the 8-hour timer. The timer was a great addition as it allows us to set it prior to bedtime and it shuts off automatically during the night. In fact, we have had to pull on the covers in the middle of the night because this fan gets it so cool in the house. In the attached photo the controls were mounted above our light switches. The grille is smaller than we expected it to be and is not as unattractive as expected either. Prior to purchasing this product we researched numerous options and kept seeing very positive reviews on the Quiet Cool CL-4700. We chose this model due to the square footage of our house (2,550sf). In summary, we couldn't be more satisfied. If you're looking for a whole house fan and want to reduce your electrical consumption this is an excellent choice.

Good but more CFM would be better. Poor packaging = arrived damaged from mfgr.
So far so good. We just installed this a week ago so this isn't a review of the fan's durability. As stated in other reviews, this item comes very poorly packaged. You'd think that when you're spending over $1000 for something, they could spend a few extra dollars on a nicer box. This fan was drop shipped from the factory so it is a factory issue, not an Amazon issue. The box arrived barely together and the fan housing and damper were damaged. I was able to bend the metal of both back into decent working shape because I didn't want to deal with a return. Other than being a little heavy and bulky, the fan itself was pretty easy to install. The electrical work needed to install the fan in a manner which allows you to utilize both speeds and a timer is fairly basic as far as electrical work goes but it does require knowing how to install electrical wiring. And I first thought the strap and screws for the ducting had fallen out of the box. I made a trip to the hardware store and bought what I needed only to find the supplies taped to the bottom of the cardboard that supported the fan in the box. Check the box thoroughly before you run to the store. As per another installers recommendation, use rope or the supplied nylon strap to temporarily support the weight of the fan while installing to to the rafters/trusses. Hang the nylon strap, hoist the fan onto it, screw the metal fan straps in place, remove the nylon strap and install it on the duct per instructions. The complete install was done without assistance. The hardest part was getting it into the attic through the access due to the bulkiness of the fan/duct. The functioning of the fan itself is good. The 4700cfm is ok for our two story 2400sqft house but more CFM would have been nice. With 5 windows and a sliding patio door open about 4-6 inches each, we get decent air flow. You can feel the breeze from the sliding door from about 12ft away with it only being open that much. More open windows will reduce the air flow you feel (the "breeze"). You can feel the air being pulled up the stairs to the second floor. We let the fan run on high the first night and had to shut it off around 4am because we were too cold. We're currently using it with the timer set to 6 hours. On at about 7:30pm and off at 1:30am here in Phoenix area. The circulation is enough to cool the house by about 3 degrees in the first hour and 7-10 degrees after 4 hours but it feels cooler with the breeze flowing through. More CFM would help cool the house quicker. I think the next model up would have been better for our needs but this will work. Works much quicker than trying to cool with window fans and open windows. Noise! I installed this in the attic with the vent placed in our upstairs living room and the fan itself placed over our daughters room. You don't hear much except the air flow in the living room but you can hear the fan in our daughters room. It is quieter than a box fan placed in the window so it's definitely not bad. Most of the noise we hear comes through the HVAC vent in her room. I'd suggest locating the fan over somewhere other than a bedroom if possible. All in all, this is a good fan and I do recommend it if sized appropriately for your home. It is a much cleaner install and quieter compared to a normal whole house fan with the gaudy louver vents. It looks nice instead of cheesy and no louvers to rattle you crazy.
