One of the best home improvement purchases we’ve made. Cools down the house within 45 minutes with no problem. Big time money saver! On hot days, A/C used to run all day and night. Now the A/C only kicks in for a few hours in the afternoon.

QuietCool review.
Works great to cool the house off in the evening as well as cooling the attic space. It’s a bit loud on high speed but not really noticeable on low. Added the QuietCool timer with the High-Off-Low switch.

Old tech controller, do not trust 1-star revies
The fan and damper are good. The fan is not quiet at high speed. It is very quiet at low speed. The problem is the remote control. You need the remote to access both the high and low speeds. The remote has very, very short range. It can be modified to fix that. Regarding bad reviews. The instructions specify the square feet of opening in the roof for most efficient operation. If the area is too small, the fan will not move enough air to cool the house and may even burn out.

Do your research and then buy this beast!
As I write this review (9/9/20), the ES6000 model is priced at $1349, while the next size down, ES5400 is priced at $1449, the same price as the ES7000 model. Go figure! I wished I had purchased the 7000 for the additional $100...but I'm happy and satisfied. 2400 sq ft, 2 story home. Performance is great! You should only open your windows a few inches in the areas that should pull the air through. The more open space, the less the effect. Super quiet! Can't even hear it on low setting. High setting is barely audible on the first floor. You can hear the air being pulled when on the second floor. No noise concerns here! I'm just going to relay some of personal experiences during my install. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the unit, it's construction, or the install. But here are some pointers. -While I am a handy guy and do a lot of things on my own, this is not a 2 hour job. Unboxing to cleanup, minimum 6 hours...took me upwards of 8, but I'm not one to be rushed. If I had to do this a second time...much quicker! I now have experience. - When unboxing and releasing the vent tube from the fan unit, watch for metal shards, splinters from the back of the fan unit. - I took the unit apart (damper box, tubing and fan unit) in the garage and brought the pieces in when needed. - Installed the RF unit in the garage and tested there. I HIGHLY recommend the RF unit unless you're really keen on running hardwire from the attic. -Watch the youtube videos! And rest assured that when you see the guy pushing the fan unit through the cutout, someone else is up there pulling it through off camera. The larger units are heavy. -The cutout (for this model) is 14 1/4 inches width. The width of the fan unit is 14 inches. Very tight fit! Not easy by yourself, but possible. -I can't even imagine trying to fit the insulated tubing through the cutout. I used my regular attic access which gave me a width of 20 inches. Much better. -Once all pieces are in the attic, assembly is required...and difficult! You're in the attic with limited movement and a bulky assembly. -Securing the damper box is pretty easy...2 screws on one side into a joist. My rafters are 24" on center. The video will show a single screw on the other side of the box through the drywall. CAREFUL! First position the trim piece and see where the trim piece screws will fall. There are 3, on each long side. So if you aim for the center, you may be lucky enough to pick the exact same spot for your drywall screw as the center screw of the trim piece. I placed 2 screws into the drywall under the trim piece...in between the 3 trim piece screws. -You are screwing these screws into the sheet metal of the damper box, so pressure is needed. - In the attic, after struggling to put the vent tube on the damper box first and failing miserably, I instead attached the tube to the fan piece relatively easy, then laid these 2 pieces straight out. -After continuing to struggle to put the vent tube on the damper box (you have to have that bend!), I decided to hang the fan unit and place the strap to hold the vent tube at a proper 45 degree angle...above the damper box. -When using the straps for the vent tube...wrap the excess around your rafters to support the weight. Only use the screw to secure the end of the strap. See the pic. -Now I could place the vent tubing over the oval shaped fitting of the damper box...you still have to squeeze the sides just right. Remember to buckle both ends of the tube! -The RF remote control...why bother installing on the wall. I just carry it around the house as needed. -And you're all done! Now the cleanup!

We love this fan! In past houses, we've had traditional whole-house attic fans mounted horizontally directly above the ceiling. Those fans did the job, but were noisy. You could feel the vibrations from the fan in the walls, and the louvers would often rattle. Not being insulated, during the hottest and coldest months of the year we'd have to cover those old fans to prevent drafts and air leakage when not in use. This QuietCool fan was easy to install and feels very well-made. It's an easy one-person job as long as you can lift the motor housing without help. Suspending it from the roof rafters means no more vibrations, and the extension duct places it far enough from the intake that there is no motor noise in the house. The only sound heard when standing under the intake is the "whoosh" of air being sucked through it. It's the same sound of air flowing into an A/C return duct, but slightly louder. This fan is rated for a house up to 3,000 square feet. Our single-story home is 2,800 square feet which includes a 450 square foot bed/bath suite above the garage. The fan is easily able to create a breeze throughout the entire house. I installed it in an alcove ceiling that had an overhead light in the center. With the narrow width of the intake (designed to fit between 16-inch centered joists), it left room to keep the light, though it did have to be moved off-center. The grate is easily removeable for cleaning, which is a nice feature. Wiring is slightly more complicated than a traditional fan. The motor requires constant 120v AC power, plus power from two leads from the switch for to select from its two speeds. A simpler solution is to buy QuietCool’s RF remote control interface. It’s easy to wire and since the control panel is wireless and battery powered, it can be placed anywhere in the house without additional wiring to the switch. My only complaint about that control panel is that there are no dedicated “on” and “off” buttons. Instead, you have to press the timer button to scroll through its settings for that. Overall, we are very satisfied with the fan. It is much more expensive than traditional whole-house fans, but it’s well worth the extra money to get a well-made product built in the USA that is quiet and efficient.

I think this will work well in the middle of summer to get the built up heat out of the house fast. Then if necessary, let the air conditioning take over. I chose the optional remote control with my unit and very happy I did. This type of whole house fan is extremely quiet in the low speed setting and much quieter then a window air conditioner in the high speed setting. The remote makes wiring simple and is nice to have it at your bedside to control the Quiet Control unit in the middle of the night without having to get out of bed. The only thing I wish was better is if there was an on/off switch on the remote and the warranty was longer than only 1 year. Currently you need go through too many button pushes to turn the unit on or off. That is too much wear and tear on the remote for something that’s so expensive if it needs to be replaced.

Purchased this for my 3300 square foot home. I have an HVAC system for downstairs and one for upstairs. In the summer, the A/C for the second floor runs most of the night due to the size of the house and the large open foyer. I wanted to find a way to reduce the taxing of the A/C unit and cool the upstairs faster. I came across this on a deal of the day at HD, and after reading reviews was convinced this would help. It is well constructed and solid. I installed it in a couple hours start to finish, by myself. I was thrilled with the fact that it comes with a plug so I didn't have to hire an electrician to wire it. My wife was a little concerned with how loud it might be, but to both of our surprise, it is extremely quiet and is not bothersome. I cannot believe how much air this thing pulls into the home with such little sound. It is really ridiculous the volume of air this thing moves. It does appear to seal pretty well when not in use, but to avoid any moist warm air leakage into the attic, I cut a piece of white styrofoam to fit inside the grate to further insulate. That appears to be providing an additional seal and insulation, and you can't even tell it is there. While I haven't had the chance to use this in the heat of summer, we did use it for the first time when the fireplace filled the downstairs with smoke. We opened the windows and ran it for 10 minutes and it literally replaced all the smoky air with fresh air. The other thing I want to mention is that it is advised that this unit get constant power, so I will be purchasing the Wireless RF control kit for $130. Currently I have it operating off of a wireless remote that we use for the Christmas tree, but this will only run it on high and does not provide constant power. If you need to cool your home in the summer, or just want a quick way to exchange stale air, especially during the winter, this is a great purchase.

I bought this a year ago, and it truly is the best purchase I ever made! I live in a 1950's bungalow with no hvac in the California Central Valley, so summers are completely suffering. If you live in a hot climate, this is exactly what you need. They recommend sizing it to your home so it makes an air exchange every I think 4-5 minutes based on cubic volume of your house. I sized mine to make a complete exchange of air every 3 minutes and was glad I did. I also got the energy efficient model - it is more costly, but over all the years this thing will be in service it will pay for the extra money I dished out. Also, because it's energy efficient, I don't think twice about running it for hours at a time. This unit calls for 3.3 sq feet of attic venting - I think that is a little underestimated and could cause the fan to struggle trying to blow air into a back pressured space (your attic). I happen to have about 9+ sq ft of attic venting so I was lucky - anyway more venting is certainly better than less. Be sure to have open windows and doors when you run it or the fan will struggle unnecessarily - never run it with your house closed up. It is seriously QUIET. I can barely hear it run when standing directly under it, much less when I'm in the other room. I'm pretty handy, so I installed it myself in about 4 hours. I already had power in my attic - if you don't, it will slow the job down. The sheet metal intake housing is designed to sit between your rafters, flush with the ceiling drywall. I would rather recommend putting 2x4 or 2x6 between your rafters, creating a "box" to mount the intake on top of rather than inside. There are videos on Youtube of guys doing it this way and it is MUCH easier than how they designed it to mount. To avoid installing their wall mounted control, I plugged it into a "smart plug" so now there's no messy wall control and I can run the fan with my phone, including regularly scheduled run times. I really recommend controlling the fan this way rather than with their control. If you are pondering this, I HIGHLY recommend you pull the trigger!

I'm a fan of this fan! Installation was easy, although in our old house the ceiling joists are a full 2" thick. The 14 1/4" damper box wouldn't fit between them, so I mounted the box on top of the joists. I had to box in the opening on either end and use my router to create a rabbet on each edge, but it worked out fine. I also had to add an electrical outlet. I installed the WiFi Smart Control too. That meant I did not have to run wires down to a switch in the wall. We control the fan from our iPhones. The WiFi unit mounts on top of the handy box on the fan. The electric cord from the handy box just plugs in to the outlet in the attic. No modifications necessary (this was not clear prior to installation). We used to run our window air conditioner at night to keep our bedroom cool. We haven't turned it on since installing the fan. The fan, being remotely located, is very quiet and we barely hear it in the bedroom, a big improvement over the AC unit. Even on high, the fan is relatively quiet. Highly recommended!

Works quite well, and the noise reduction with the extended intake is quite noticeable from joist-mounted fans. It's also quite expensive, so you really need to consider noise v. cost. Also, the fan guard is more brittle than you'd expect; mine sheared off a post in shipping and jury-rigging attempts failed because there's almost zero margin between the blades and the guard causing them to rub, so I just took the whole thing off. The hanging straps should come with an extension loop or extended tabs to accommodate more margin on higher-pitched roofs, and be prepared to build a hanging bracket if you need to position the fan perpendicular to your rafters.

This fan is SO much better than the traditional huge, lumbering, and noisy whole house fans that I have had in past homes. It operates quietly as advertised and moves an amazing amount of air. I probably will rarely need to operate it on high. Installation is fairly straight forward. The only challenges were in finding a suitable installation spot in the ceiling without obstructions, but once I identified the proper location installation was straightforward after watching the installation videos. It helps to have been a DIY'er for other projects of this nature or more complicated ones, but overall this is a well designed product for both installation and operation.

          amazing!!!
I was very worried buying this as i grew up with the BIG 3'x3' ceiling fan that sounded like a jet taking off and the vents slamming when you shut it. So i thought, how can this be any good? I hope it's quite but i hope it's as good!! Rest assured its awesome!! Our home Is just about 1500 sqft maybe a bit more, this 3100 fan is more than enough. Cooled the house down pretty fast!! Don't forget the quiet cool rf remote switch as it didn't come with anything other than a power cord, so unless you want to go in the attic all the time to plug in and unplug... Buy the remote. I bought the three speed one. Tho this fan is only two speed the one i got works fine and it was the recommended one to get got this fan. Easy to install, the remote isn't hard to wire either. If you have decent skills in electrical and a little in construction, to be able to mark and cut to fit this between the floor joists. Need a certain amount of ventilation in the attic as well either from ridge vent, gable vent or roof vents. Well worth the cost i think it'll really help me to not use the central ac as much.

An excellent way to remove heat from the house once the sun has set. We were able to avoid running the air conditioner as the house cooled enough to stay comfortable during the day. The installation was straightforward and the results worth the effort. High recommend!!

It’s a lot quieter that a regular whole house fan. Highly recommend the QuietCool Wireless RF Control Kit. This fan model has 2 speeds but you can wire it to 3 speeds H M L with the control kit.

Easy to install. Hardest part was separating the tubing from the fan to put it through the ceiling. Everything else was pretty smooth sailing.

I did thorough research on this brand, the various models, specs, requirement for attic vent sq.ft. etc. but unfortunately it didn't work for our home due to a few things that I failed to consider... 1) Road noise. We live in a busy city, on a busy street. At night, when the whole house fan should be ran, bedrooms that face the main street, need to have the windows cracked open which of course brings the road noise, sirens, dog barking etc. 2) If you have a child that still takes naps or is even a light night time sleeper, leaving their door open is not realistic due to being woken up by other household noise. 3) Your bedroom door will need to remain open at night. If you have annoying household animals ( cats/dogs), they will have access to your bedroom, therefore impacting your sleep. We did run the fan for 3 nights, from 10pm to 6am, on high. And to be honest, we didn't feel a huge difference.

This thing moves a lot of air and is quiet like advertised. The Quiet Cool are pricier than other fans but in my opinion they are well worth it. This is my second one. High speed is a bit louder than the lower speed, but it is moving much more air so this is to be expected. For the speed control I used a standard 3-way switch instead of the one from QC. Another thing to note when installing is make sure that you have room in the attic to hang the fan and route the duct to the grill. Plan before cutting! My roof is 3/12 pitch, so there is not a lot of room to route a 20” round fan / duct.
