Emerson which now owns Ridgid, has cheaped out on materials or lack of it. If using for wet pickup expect some dripping from the quick lock hose connection. There's zero tip over or ball inside the vac to sense a tip over, so if the Vac upside down it stills runs. Locking clips for motor can easily get snagged and unclipped causing messes. The jumbo size on off switch is nice but apparently has shocked people on smaller nxt recalled models. The Plastic is not as football helmet rugged as previous decades model, and the cart handle, steel axle, wheels weigh as much as the vac's shell. Pro's are the suction, the newly angled exhaust to keep from ripping your leg open or damaging walls. My advice is to buy a narrower, lighter and more reasonable gallon rating for your needs. Not recommended as a wet dedicated vac, also the Scroll Noise Reduction is weaker in the new model, get ready to go deaf without earplugs.

Just a heads up the rod for the wheels may come package in on the wand attachments, to protect it during transit. Also I recommend using a 5/8" or 15mm socket to hold the cap to lock the wheel to the rod. I used this for about 30minutes to pick up some standing water that was outside, that would not go away. The suction on this was great as it filled up very quickly. This picked up water and a bunch of leaves. For wet applications I removed the filter I love that there is a screw cap on the bottom plug the water. Simply unscrewing it releases the water. The attachments have a tab which latches them to each other, this worked well as it did not fall off while I used it. This lost a star from me because of the handles, the handles to me, are to slim and not that strong, when I used the handle to tip it so I can roll It when it was filled with water, it felt like they could not support the weight and were not sturdy enough so support the force I applied to it. I was able to get it on the 2nd try , but they handle just feels weak which lowered the score in my eyes. Locking the top is simple, you can simply twist it on, and there are two tabs on the side that it will latch too. The cord wraps around the handle on the top which is very convenient. Improvements: Ridgid has the new 9.0ah batteries, the tools that could benefit from it the most does not fit it. I would love to see an Octane Cordless shop vac. It was a hassle filling this up outside, unplugging it from my generator , stashing my generator, as I was out in the open, and dumping the water and repeating the process. Also I would change the cap screw. It was a pain trying to put it on without a socket to hold it place, as I did not have one handy. For the attaching it, you can use a 15mm or a 5/8" socket. I had to reattach the cap after it fell off and it was a lot easier with the socket to hold it.

Pros Easy to Clean, Easy to Use, Nice Design Cons the handle could have been stronger

RIDGID 16 gal. NXT Vac arrived quickly. The sides of bottom of box were opened. Just as it was delivered the axle fell out of the box. All the other parts were intact. When I got to the part in directions to install the hose storage clips I thought they forgot 2 screws. I went over the directions and realized I wasn't suppose to use screws on the front caster/foot. I removed them and installed them on the hose storage clips. I was afraid the front feet would not stay on. I have pushed, and pulled this vac across my rock landscaping. All the feet, and tools stay in place with no problems. I have to vacuum rocks up at times. This vac sucked them right up with no blockages, or issues. I grasped the push handle at the top, and the axle to empty the vac. When turned over all the accessories stayed in place. It does use dust bags. I will buy some for dusty, dirty jobs. I didn't think this vac was any louder than my old vac. First time I have had a muffler/diffuser. It did help to dampen the noise. For some reason the muffler/diffuser was the only part I had trouble attaching to the the caster/foot storage. But, I prefer to store it on the blower port anyway. The wheels were able to roll across the rocks, and flat terrain without issues. The handle for pushing/pulling is my favorite part. This is designed so the tools, hose, and cord storage on this vac makes it a more compact unit for storage. You can hear the parts lock in place when they are connected together. They remove easily with a twist and pull.I removed the qwik lock filter to vac up some water. The suction power on this vac is awesome. The drain cap in the front twist on, and off easily. The handle on top makes it very easy to lift the lid to remove/replace the filter, or empty the dust drum. This is the first time I have been able to vacuum/clean a vent 10 ft up on wall without having to pull a ladder out. This vac is awesome with all its power, upgraded features, parts, and compact size for storage. This vac makes my jobs around the house much easier.

Pros Durable, Easy to Clean, Easy to Install, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight, High Quality, Looks Great, Lots of Features, Nice Design, Sturdy

I don't have vacuum system in my shop and needed to collect the dust from my saws. I love the way I can quick connect my new Ridgid wet dry vac to my saws and its powerful suction. No more breathing saw dust when using my shopvac.

This RIDGID wet/dry vac is the best of the best in shop vacs. superior suction to anything else out there for 3 times the price. Current configuration I have it set up with a FILTERPAL HD pre filter over the top of the 3 layer filter in the canister and an exhaust muffler. I did a drywall job and used to vacuum the dust from sanding, no dust was broadcast back into the air. There was no noticeable loss in suction in this configuration job site was nice and clean perfect. After cleaning out the drum I removed the primary filter and blew it down with an air chuck there was no dust present. I will add a filter bag next to the configuration and see if i get any noticeable drop in suction. This vacuum is super powerful great piece of equipment would recommend for any job site.

Bought this specifically to clean my gutters. It does a great job. Added 2 additional extensions and an angled piece to reach the gutters. I can stand safely on the ground and clean all of them. This guy is powerful enough to pick up wet leaves and crud.

It took me about 15 minutes to unpack and assemble. The directions and pictures were clear and easy to follow. Once assembled, everything feels solid with the exception of some play in the cart handle. It isn’t excessive, but I suspect that it will be more exaggerated when the dust bin approaches full. Functionally, it is quieter than the smaller Rigid it replaces. It may be the exhaust filter or it may be the motor as that piece is significantly heavier than the old unit. It is also more powerful, which is welcomed. Where I had to brush up some dirt, hair and fur in my truck to get it picked up with the older unit, this new vac picked it up unassisted. The new locking hose and accessories are pretty useful. While knocking off accessories was never a big issue for me, I didn’t even have to consider the possibility while I used this vac. They connect securely and they don’t budge until they are twisted and the release tab is pressed. Another secure item is the locking latches that hold the head to the bin. It is far more secure than the union of those pieces on my old vac. This is a big improvement over my old vac, which gave me a strong 10 years of use. There are two reasons I am giving it 4 stars vs. 5. The 1st is because of the nozzle accessory storage. To get to the center port on the holder you have to remove the exhaust muffler. Over time, I can see damaging it. The 2nd reason is that they have you attach the rear wheel & accessory holders to the bin with a screw, but for the front 2 caster & accessory holders, you just snap them in place. Both sets appear to press on the same way and have the same holes (I assume for screws), so I don’t know if the fronts are going to wiggle loose over time.

I was not impressed with this unit at all. I have used many different shop vacs over the years, including Rigid, and this is the worst yet when used for wet pickup. Out of the box the brackets for the handle were missing. The very first use the float failed to rise, it was stuck at the bottom of the cage inside so the unit overfilled and pulled water through motor. After freeing up float I found that the smallest particle in the water you're cleaning can cause the float to get stuck and fail. After spending an additional $20 on a wet filter (never has been a requirement for water before) I found that there's still always a strong mist blowing out the discharge port, I assume this is because of the shallow design of the tank. I haven't used for dry pickup yet. Wish I could have returned, but was in middle of flooded basement and needed to use it as is at the time..

This is the new product line NXT, first 16 gal. It is very new. I may have bought the first one. I think it best to know what problem I was trying to solve. I am 70 years old and want to remain somewhat useful. The Cart handle with big wheels make moving a load much better. Extremely important for me, and not so much for the 30 year old pro. This worked well. The attachment tools are much better with the secure lock clip. And having a place on the device for everyone of them is a godsend. This will make the OCD's day, it did mine. It is loud, very loud. I suppose it is the big horse power. The sound dampener is virtually useless. Plan on wearing ear mufflers. It is also a good way to limit the instruction from spouses we often get when using cleaning tools. You need to note the replaced 6.5hp 16gal says it has 203 CFM. This says it is more powerful but only does 165 CFM. Something is wrong. The product number is HD1800, the enclosed instructions say HD18000. I had reproblems getting this one because the SKU# is the same as the HD1851. Make sure you get what you want. It comes short of two screws, The instruction say to screw on two of wheel feet and not the other two for for the back. There is a place for the screws and it is needed. So get those two screws before you leave the store. This is a great product, and especially for the price on sale. I would ask the engineers to include a regular size handle to put on the tubes or other tools. These big 2.5 inch tools are hard to grip and wearout the weak people really fast.
