I used this filter and bag and they both work great!!! Vacuum up some sawdust had all of it go into the bag. The bag will keep the filter clean and last longer. The bag and filter were both easy to install and hardly no effort. My vacuum still has the nut on the filter, but the filter plate is not needed. When putting on the bag be careful of the rubber seal and make sure the cardboard is as close as possible to the side of the vacuum.

You need the bags because these save you work cleaning your filter. The bags also collect dust; saw dust, sheet rock dust, and so on are what should go into the bag. I used it to vac out my woodstove ash (it hasn't had a fire for several months and remember, embers and hot ash are not to be vacuumed up) and no dust came out of the vac exhaust. Wonderful! The filter does fit 9 gallon models as well as 12-16 gallons but the bags are only for 12-16 gallons. If the time comes when you have to remove your filter, hose it down, and let it dry for a day or two, you do not want to be without the use of your vac so having another filter lets you keep going. It takes a long time to fill the bags. The bags are not for use when vacuuming up water. This is a great kit and really indispensible because it saves so much clean up of the vac cannister inside. You can easily put the bag onto the intake and then slip it off to remove the bag to a trash can. It is handy to have up on the shelf. I can easily recommend the kit. Having an extra filter and these bags=planning.

I received my Ridgid filter kit today; it comes with a standard filter and two dust collection bags for dry debris.
This kit (VF4500) will fit Ridgid 12 to 16 gallon wet/dry vacuums. The dust bags are large and will hold a lot of debris. Using these dust bags keeps the inside of your vacuum clean and easy to maintain.
Overall, I like that these dust collection bags and filters don't lower the vacuums suction power, last a long time, and are reasonably priced.

If you own a Rigid Shop Vac you need replacement filters and dust bags and you will save money buying them in kits.We have a 14 gal Rigid and it was time for a new filter. We don't usually use dust bags but they are a must if you are cleaning up drywall or concrete dust or other very fine particulate. For bigger stuff like leaves, spilled mulch, dog hair, dust bunnies and such you can skip the dust bag although they do keep the inside of the vac clean - just toss the filed bag. Of course, there is a price for that convenience. Isn't there always? So bags have pros & cons but filters are a must and you need to replace them after you can no longer get them clean. We wash ours and let them dry (yes, they are paper but can still be hosed) but after so many times you need a new one. This time we bought a kit with a VF4000 filter and 2 VF3502 dust bags. The filter just is pushed down over a support post and locks in place. The dust bags are equally easy to install -first turn the inlet nozzle sideways and then push the rubber gasket on the bag over the inlet nozzle until the gasket is snug up against the wall.

RIDGID Filter Kit with VF4000 Standard Filter and VF3502 Dust Bags (2-Pack) for certain 12 to 16 Gallon Wet/Dry Shop Vacuums.
The RIDGID standard dust filter is good on its own, but when vacuuming fine dust (drywall dust is the worst) or fireplace ashes; then the bags are essential for easy disposal!. This particilar kit includes two dry pickup dust bags and one standard pleated paper filter (the same as what your shop vac was supplied with). When installed together, this kit prevents most of the dust and small particles from becoming airborne. The bags make for easy disposal of collected debris and adds two layers of protection around your vacuum's motor, helping to prolong its life.
As noted by other the bag only half fills before the suction quits; BUT, by removing the bag and shaking the debris to the other side away from the 90º bend of the intake the rest of the bag is useable. I did try to see if the bag can be reused and it was successful. So, if you run out, or are cheap, or the store is closed open one end, empty the bag and staple the folded over seam. The final photo shows a five-gallon bucket almost clear full from one bag. There was a video, but it was too shaky to use.
Excellent performance thank you ridgid for making the best products at an affordable price.

Great idea, big design flaw. DIY fix, see pic
This bag is exactly what I needed to grind carpet glue off of a concrete floor. Without this bag the filter will clog immediately. My first bag worked as expected. My next three all popped barely less than 1/4 way through. Same each time, the whole seam on one side wide open. This added considerable amount of time to my job as I need to clean the shopvac and the filter. I couldn't stop my project so the next 2 bags I stapled each of the ends up the seam and it worked. Based on the comments this appears to be a design flaw that has not been addressed.

Great for drywall dust
I have used this filter to clean up drywall dust in my Rigid shop vac over the last 4 years. This filter has worked great for this application. It is easy to install. This filter has met my expectations and there isn't anything that I dislike about it.

These filter bags do not fit the vacuum I bought. The website and the package on the bags say they fit the model vacuum I have, but they do not! If you look at the picture, you will see a curved flange that is attached to the place the filter bag is supposed to attach to....the bag won’t go over that..the vac does work without a filter though.

I like them and have bought a few of them but some of the bags have failed while using them when they are less than half full. They work a lot better than just a filter when vacuuming fine dust from Sheetrock or sanding.

Bags bust in vacuum
Bags come apart at the seems while in the vacuum. For basically $10 a bag (which is ridiculous for a glorified coffee filter) i would expect a lot more. I have bought these several times and always the same results. Buy a different brand.

Cleaned my chimney and *zero* dust entered the room. My Ridgid vac already had the correct cylinder filter to stop chimney dust, but this bag did a fantastic job of keeping everything clean.

The RIDGID model VF5000 fine dust wet/dry vac filter works wonderful. I've rinse and let the filter fully dry for reuse once so far. The QwikLock fastening makes it super easy to install and remove from the filter cage, so no more using a filter plate nor screw nut. I have used the filter for many drywall and sawdust clean up. It's very functional!! The filter fits 5-20 gallon wet/dry vac. Very easy to install into your wet/dry vac.

Ultimately no, I would recommend this one for what I was doing. We decided to scrap down all the popcorn off the ceiling, which generated a ton of dust and debris.
Vacuuming all the debris up with our Rigid vacuum was easy, however dust was still leaving the exhaust port. Opt for the more expensive filter if you want to trap all the dust, so your not dusting for a next year.

great vacuum with upgraded hose/wands/tools
i have this vac for a while & quite powerful vac! i upgraded the 1 7/8" hose & wands to the 2 1/2" hose, wands & tools; & also bought the car cleaning kit, filter bags & hepa filter. i used the vac for vacing car interiors, home remodeling & clearing flooded kitchen (kitchen sink drain pipe burst) this vac outcleaned my other 'household vac' so it gets daily use vacing carpets & above floor. it even picked up a lite switch w/o clogging. the only downside is noisy; esp when using a turbo brush nozzle for vacing carpets upholstery & car interiors

Requires some tricks to prevent leaks
They're cheaper than the triple layer filter so I figured I'd try them to help keep the filter clean even though I saw a video review that showed dust got through. Dust and larger particles got through on my first try, and I see from other reviews that this is common.
When installing the bag it's impossible to see whether the lower part of the seal is in the proper place (between two ridges) unless you stick your head deep in the drum and try moving the filter out of the way, which I didn't try, or use an inspection mirror, which I tried the second time I vacuumed with the bag.
First attempt: I installed the bag, being careful not to stretch the rubber seal more than necessary to fit it over the plastic tube. It looked sealed per the instructions, and maybe it was sealed all around, but after vacuuming I found dust on the filter, dust and larger particles in the drum, and saw that the bag became unsealed and had a clump of dirt coming out of the seal. It make me wonder whether the bags holds ANY fine dust.
Second attempt: I pushed the cardboard piece that has the seal way further on the tube than you'd think is necessary. I over pushed in my first attempt too, but I knew I had to try something else this time. Then, to see whether the seal was in the proper place (between two ridges) I pushed the cardboard out a little. It looked good. Then I used an inspection mirror to check the bottom. The seal was in the proper place there too. I vacuumed for a little while, probably picking up slightly less than the first time. Then I opened the lid and the seal still looked good.
Either the bag, vacuum, or instructions should be changed, but if you do what I did in my second attempt (see the photos to see how it should look) it may work out.

The Ridgid shop-vac was exactly what I needed. Bela (Baxter, MN, Home Depot employee) took time to walk me through the shop-vac options, and explained how each vacuum tube size would function in various applications. He also explained that the bags would extend the life of the main filter, and I could throw away the detritus, given what I would be vacuuming-up. I could not be more pleased with these purchases, and with the “education” about shop-vacs provided by Bela.
