This is the worst edger I’ve ever owned. The string does NOT self feed. The battery life is garbage too, but I at least anticipated that based on reviews beforehand. My wife likes it because it’s light and easy to handle. But everytime I use it I want to throw it in the road

I've bought the gas version. And after a year it started to clog and show signs of the deterioration in performance which is very odd for one that has more power. So when I saw that there was the battery operated version I was hesitant but upon looking at the reviews I see that they weren't lies and they were thoroughly backed up, this has performed much better and we shall only see if it performs for much longer. So far, the only draw back is the battery lasts about 20 minutes each charge but we finished the backyard with 50 minutes of use.

After 2 failed Ryobi edgers, string wrapping around the spool holder, this edger has given new confidence, so far. It is well designed with a grip being molded on the shaft. It is lightweight and well balanced, and easy to handle on hillsides and banks. Hopefully the auto string feed will perform more reliably than the two previous machines we had.

I absolutely love all my Ryobi tools that i have used for years for renovations, repairs and helping out friends with their deck projects. My gas trimmer (5hp) just crapped out on me a few weeks ago and my blade engage wire on the mower snapped a week ago (and i had not yet cut anything in the back yard this year AT ALL!). We bought the house a couple years back and no one previous to us had done any landscaping, weeding or care to the backyard. Today i went and bought this little gem because since all my other tools are this brand, i figured i would try out some yard maintenance tools. The bulk of what i needed to cut down was around 2’ high speargrass, 3’ tall milkweed and tons of knee high weeds. The main chunk to be worked was around 25’ x 20’. With an electric motor and a smaller cutting swath i had my doubts but began to cut in. Top half swath then pull it out of the way and then lower half swath and flick it out of the way with the trimmer. As i bit into it more i was pretty happy. Going deeper into it i was pretty amazed. One large battery and an hour later, i came out victorious!!!! I left some of the bigger milkweed plants so i could pull them and their roots. I do not have a before picture but here is an after picture with said largest milkweeds standing and you can see the long clumps of grass laying where they fell.

My friend swears by this brand so while I was getting power tools I picked this up. Great buy! I've been pushing my treeline back and the grass had grown over where I left the trimmings to dry out to burn. I had a few piles for burning but didn't want a bunch of burn spots in the yard so we just kept moving everything to one burn spot. We also didn't want to run over the high grass with the mower and risk having missed something that could be thrown. This little weed eater took everything down easily.

It's does the job well. Easy to set up and able to perform both vertical and horizontal trimmings. Battery life is good.

I bought this to keep up the maintenance of my baby girl and brother gravesite. My first Edger and Trimmer I will keep it in my truck for the summer. I'm glad I bought this product.

I normally go straight to the EGO brand when it comes to electric/cordless lawn equipment but I'm so glad I gave Ryobi a chance with this product. I couldn't believe how long the battery lasts (compared to the Ryobi blower) and having the dual trimmer/edger capability for this-low price point makes this product a no brainer. I've only used it twice since buying it in the Spring of 2019 but I can't wait to use it more. This product exceeded my expectations.

Had this about a week, and it does the job. Light weight and much easier to use than a corded one. The only issue I had is, the battery does not hold a charge long enough to do all I need done, but still, it lasts a good 30-40 minutes before dying.,

Doesn't tear up other heavier plants in the vicinity. Also, the RYOBI batteries and chargers are the best on the market. Much, much, better than my Black & Decker Lithium-Ion Cordless 2-in-1 that I got tired of having to buy new batteries for every year because they don't hold a charge after a years use. I'm really getting to like RYOBI tools. Besides my trimmer, I also have a RYOBI Lithium-Ion Cordless 3/8 inch drill and a RYOBI Lithium-Ion Cordless 9.5 Feet Long Pole Saw and they both work great. This is the lightest weed eater I could find to do clean up. It has plenty of power. The battery is the only draw back, I bought an upgrade battery and my wife is truly worth its price!!

I use the trimmer weekly and it keeps my garden looking as though i had a professional garden service. As a senior, I appreciate it's easy usage and particularly it's light weight. I love my Ryobi trimmer/hedger.

This product is dangerous. The head started pouring out smoke after second use just a few minutes into the job! It’s faint ht yoh can see slme of it in the attached photo.

I like this product because it's light weight and easy to handle. And the battery and charger is a plus for the cost.

No matter how well a lawn mower cuts the grass, you will always have to deal with the grass around the trees and flowerbeds or near the fences and driveways. To deal with this grass efficiently, you need a RYOBI 18V ONE+tm 10in. String Trimmer/Edger.

This trimmer ROCKS! Beautifully designed and easily stows away. It delivers outstanding performance using the 18 volt battery thus allowing me to quickly and easily trim all my yard curbing quickly, effectively and efficiently. All this WITHOUT having to use a lanky, clumsy extension cord. This Ryobi trimmer is an outstanding tool for those having a medium size yard or for light to medium trimming.

Assembling two shafts together with 180 degree marking needed more explaining turning before assembly not after

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Finally, an affordable cordless trimmer that doesn't fall apart out-of-the box. They've tried to cut down costs in so many places, replace a lot of metal with plastic, that, contrary to the cheapening principle, they've created a lighter tool, that's better, sturdier, and easier to use. They've integrated the handle into the body. Older non-integrated handles had plastic parts that broke, and the handle was useless. By eliminating all these parts, the new integrated handle is quite sturdy, and the low weight of the trimmer compensates the weaker grip. They've done away with the metal shaft. I can't tell you how many electric trimmers I've seen on display where the metal joints were just about to break open. On this trimmer, they're made the shaft all plastic. It's cheap polypropylene or nylon, not the glass-fiber reinforced type. However, they have made the plastic thick enough, where the tool feels sturdier than those with metal shafts. The joint between the two plastic parts seems to do the job very well. I can't feel any play, and the tools maneuvers as if it were one piece. The switch levers are made out of cheap plastic, but they're not the paddle-type. I prefer this design over the paddles because it's a lot harder to break. Sady, the engagement is a weak click, not a proper cachunk-cachunk. This edger is really a $150 tool. The included 1.5 Ah battery is a joke. It doesn't even have a battery gauge. It'll do a lot of edging, but most likely you'll need a second battery. I got a 4 Ah battery as well with this tool, which brings the total cost to $150. For that money, you do get a proper battery with a gauge, and a backup battery. It's not a bad deal, but do keep in mind you will need more than the included power pack. The brushed motor is a bit of a disappointment. For the cost savings you get from eliminating the brushes and rotor winding, they could have added the brushless control electronics. It's surprising they haven't done this given the extreme cost-cutting measures they took in other places. I find the tool to be easy to use. It's not very powerful, but there are other usability aspects which compensate that. The automatic string feed, and the very low weight make it extremely usable. This is still a home-gamer tool. For anyone doing yard work for a living, this will not replace a gas-powered Husqvarna or a proper pro trimmer. You will not be trimming a whole block in 20 minutes with this. What you do get is a light tool, that is easy to operate, requires almost no maintenance, doesn't take much storage space.

I got this grass trimmer on sale for $30 to replace a heavy duty gas trimmer that finally bit the dust after 12 years. No one else could start it and it required regular maintenance. I just needed a light duty trimmer. I already had a Ryobi battery hedge trimmer and blower and 3 large lithium batteries. I can’t believe how light it is and how well and fast it does all the perimeters and edges of my yard using only half a charge and so far after 2 uses against cement and brick no string changes yet. Auto feed works fine. Not a single problem yet. Bad bearings on the blower though. I have had to take apart and grease bearings to keep it going.
