Cheap stuff, poor design, don’t buy
Bought this a year ago. First I was using the string, but it broke off easily this spring against clovers. The button to take off the head also broke. Switched to the blades. It took me days to finally get the string head off. Then one of the blades broke the first time I used it, so I did trimming with the one left. 2 months ago the other blade broke and the design is so bad. I can’t even get the head fully open to put in replacement. I might just throw it away if I can’t get warranty service.

    Frustrating Use & Poor Design
This string trimmer unfortunately is cheaply made and poorly designed. The automatic string feed is meant to be helpful but just ends up over feeding line. The overfed line on my unit ripped off the line cutter and flung it somewhere in the yard. Line seems to break quite easily as well. I’ve given this trimmer so many chances but I’m over it. If you are looking for a trimmer that will just work without having to make special accommodations, choose something else.

I bought this about 3 months ago and the motor got so hot it melted the entire head and now unusable. Not only is useless, that is also a huge fire hazard. Do not buy

        Guard attachments
Bought one three months ago and it went together easily. i was concerned about the guard attachments because they were three screws going into a plastic at the base of the trimmer motor. Sure enough two of the three snapped off and now I cannot reattach the guard. Very poor quality considering I have purchased other Ryobi products this one was clearly the worst.

          edger blade
The edger blade connection broke on the first use. Hopefully theres a replacement for the pin. Otherwise smooth operation and battery lasted way longer than my old one.

            Not Great
Auto feed feeds twin constantly until you end up with a rats nest. It work okay if you can find a way to tie a knot in the spool, other than that it’s unusable

            Response from RYOBIAug 10, 2023
Hello, Bojackles - We're sorry to see that you're having some trouble with the auto-feed on your trimmer! Auto-feed string trimmers are designed to release about a ¼ in. of the line every time the trimmer's trigger is released. And if a user squeezes and releases the trigger continuously, then more and more line will advance, which can lead to wasted line or tangles. So we encourage you to be mindful of this and avoid repeatedly squeezing and releasing the trigger. Would you mind sending us an email at Reviews@RYOBItools.com? We'd be happy to provide some assistance! RYOBIOutdoorTools

I fully trust this product. Works so fast.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this trimmer a few weeks ago specifically to tackle an overgrown sidewalk. I was not expecting it to be as helpful as it was for it's price. It ATE UP the overgrown grass, and I finished the whole task in 20 minutes. Since then I’ve been finding excuses to use it every weekend since! I trust that I’ll have it for years, that is if I don’t upgrade before then!

                Ryobi 18V trimmer/edger
I’ve had this tool for over 2 years now. While I don’t always love the self feeding line feature, it’s tolerable. I use this tool hard and it’s held up very well. I’ve had no broken parts as others have noted. My favorite feature is the ability to switch between weed wacker to edger. The attached pics show heavy weeds and brush along the back of my property. I used about (3) fully charged 4aH batteries and about half a spool of blue hex shaped line (not the line that comes with the tool).

                    Cheap Buy something different
Auto feed line make you go thru too much line. I already have used 4 spools less than 1 summer. The line cut tool has broken. Since the cutter is gone the line wraps around the spool head. The trimmer lacks power compared to gas trimmers. On my trimmer I have a really hard time going back and forth the edger feature and the weed whacker feature. I tried Ryobi. Anyone want to buy it back. NEVER again

The most aggravating Weed Eater I have ever used!!
This is the most aggravating weed eater I have ever used. The battery dies fast and the string keeps messing up. The only good thing about this is that it is cordless and you do not need gas. I went and bought a homelite ,plug in cheap weed eater and it works better than this one. I have 3 batteries I spent about $500 on Ryobi lawn products and the only thing that works good is the hedge trimmer. The string breaks or goes in every 3 ft when its used to edge. I wish I could get my money back!

Light weight and easy to use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this about 3 years ago and it is still working like the day I bought it, flawless every time I use it. Does the whole yard front and back edging everything on 1 charge when this one finally dies I will be buying the same one over again.

                          buyer beware
Trimmer was easy to assemble and price was reasonable that’s why i gave it the one star. I wish I would have also listened to the reviews before purchasing this product. I have had to buy multiple spool caps because they keep breaking. The plastic covering the edger at the bottom completely broke off. It’s has been one thing after another with this thing and i think i have warranty on it but to be honest i don’t want to even use this product again ☹️

                                DO NOT BUY
I was skeptical about purchasing this because of some bad reviews..I should've listened. My first time using it, it went fine and then about an hour into it after changing the blades already because plastic doesn't do well with concrete. The housing snaps and the metal piece holding in the blade breaks off so the edger is no longer usable. After signing up, registering the product, and contacting Ryobi..they inform me that even though it's a kit. They cannot offer me a replacement..

This is a pretty solid string trimmer overall
I purchased 2 of these to replace my old Ryobi string trimmer of 4+ years (Model P2002 12"). The 18V option allows me to use the batteries & chargers I already have. The guard is shaped differently because of the new edging feature which works well, but takes some getting used to. The battery life is a little better than the old model. The charger uses a wall transformer, so it's a little unwieldy to plug in more than 1 at a time. Gravity feed string is good and bad, but overall good.

One + Battery is not good
Overall, weed eater was working decent. Got maybe 3 uses out of it before the one + battery completely died and now I have to buy a brand new one. If you’re purchasing this product I recommend buying Home Depot’s protection plan. I declined because it comes with a 3 year factory warranty but now I have to deal with Ryobi directly instead of being able to go in a get a new one from Home Depot. Will end up buying a new one probably just to save myself time and hassle with Ryobi.

Not Happy with Home Depot or Ryobi
I just bought this Ryobi Trimmer 8 weeks ago at Home Depot. I used it a total of 6 times on my small front lawn and the top black shield just broke off in mid use, it didn't just break off so a new shield could be replaced, the clips on the main body that fasten to the black cover shield broke off so now the whole thing is screwed. So much for a Warranty, Ryobi wants buyers to pay all shipping back and fourth, might as well buy another brand instead like Stihl brand which I've heard Cal Fire uses

                                            Battery erupted; burst; caught fire
Major problem/risk: battery spontaneously erupted and caught fire. Battery was no more than 3 years old; had no visible signs of damage; was about 50% charged and was not connected to the charger. This is a major concern due to where customers typically store their power tools and batteries (e.g. garages) and unpredictability of eruption. This could be considered bad luck or a fluke but the outcome has created serious doubt and distrust in brand.

There is a little piece on the black cover that is supposed to cut and adjust the string length and the second time I used it it broke. The customer service was awesome and they sent me a new one, but now I used it 2 more times on VERY light stuff and it broke again. They want me to bring it in to the store and pay money for it to be fixed.... I barely use it and broken again!!!

I don't know if mine was a major defect or if nobody else even uses the tool before reviewing. There's no way to lock the engine to put the head back on unless you tear apart the housing. Auto feed was not working but maybe that's because the head was coming loose over the moments I used to the tool. Baffling how bad this is.

                                                          Ryobi Weed Eater attachment junk
This is the worst piece of crap ever made. Needlessly complex to change the string. The pressure advance never works. Never did. Not even when new. The attachment never locks into place. It is complete crap I finally just bent the attachment ahaft in half so I wouldn'tbe tempted to keep using the pieve of crap. Do not buy any Ryobi lawn equipment. It is all junk. .

                                                            Won’t assemble
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Looks like a great tool and it’s lightweight enough for me to handle. However the grass guard doesn’t sit on the motor casing. It’s IMPOSSIBLE to get the screws on… looks like a defeated piece and of design flaw. Will have to return
