My New Favorite Impact Drill/Driver
I am really pleased with this RYOBI impact drill/driver, it performs flawlessly & beyond my expectations. The 2 included HP batteries are the newest iteration of RYOBI's HP batteries & provide even MORE power than the old style HP batteries, which I compared with my own older RYOBI HP batteries. I bought Milwaukee bits for this fine tool, UPC Code # 882346280069. Very good buy in my opinion. I am so glad I got it at the best deal during 4th of July. Best tool for the money hands down.

    They did it again
Ryobi is a company that I trust. We have been purchasing and expanding our tools with Ryobi products and it is really nice to see that much green in our tool area. This brushless impact drive has a ton of power and I'm using a 18V with 3.0ah. The tool itself is light weight, so depending on your battery, thats how heavy it is going to get. I'm a DIY, so the modes are lost on me. I'll have to research it. But all I know is that I wanted a screw to go into a tree trunk to hang a bug zapper, and it went in so easily!

If you need power look no further
This is not the Ryobi of the old days. This thing has serious power. You will not regret getting this tool.

A decent tool for the price but with a couple of issues.
BACKGROUND: I have a few ¼ in. impact drivers, but none from Ryobi, so the chance to try out their PBLID02B brushless model was too good to pass up. FIT AND FINISH: We own a Ryobi cordless mower and weed eater and this tool is comparable in quality. FEATURES: From the Home Depot page, with my comments as appropriate. • Brushless motor provides up to 25% faster driving, more runtime, power, and longer motor life o Brushless is now a common feature with other manufacturers as well. • Produces a powerful 2,200 in./lbs. of torque o Comparable to other tools in this family and class. • Optimized impacting mechanism delivers up to 4,000 IPM • 3 speeds and Assist Mode offer ultimate control in a variety of applications when driving a variety of fasteners from large lag screws to small sheet metal screws (see video) o This speed switch appears to be electronic. I assume it controls the trigger to motor voltage through the brushless controller. o The assist mode is handy as it controls rpms in both directions when starting to install or remove fasteners. • Compatible with LITHIUM+ HP batteries for even better performance o High performance LI batteries are now common for these types of tools. • Die cast gear case for maximum durability o Metal is always better! • One-handed bit release for quick bit changes o There were a few things I didn’t like about this chuck (see video.)  I could not always push a driver bit in without pulling the latch collar. Some of my other drivers also balk at certain driver bits, particularly the double-ended bits.  Sometimes the collar would not lock the bit in place, at other times when ejecting a bit, the lock collar would remain in the unlocked position. In both cases I had to use two hands. There are times when you can’t easily get both hands to the tool. This is a major issue for me with this driver.  Also, there is a spring assist that pops driver bits out of the collet. The spring is strong enough to launch a short driver bit about 4 inches out of the collet. A couple of times they popped out of the collet and landed in the grass…not good when you are working one-handed on a ladder. I could live without that feature. • On-board LED worklight for increased workspace visibility o A good illumination design. I like the lights surrounding the output shaft; it prevents shadow zones. • Perfect for professional and DIY jobs o This tool didn’t feel as heavy duty as my impact drivers from other manufactures. I think it’s ok for DIY projects, but I don’t think I’d consider it suitable for professional use. • Part of the RYOBI 18V ONE+ System of over 225 Cordless Tools that all work on the same battery platform • 3-year manufacturer's warranty • Includes: (1) PBLID02B 18V ONE+ HP Brushless 4-Mode 1/4 in. Impact Driver and operator's manual • Battery and charger sold separately SUMMARY: If you already have Ryobi tools this is probably a good move for an impact driver. If you don’t own other cordless tools there are probably suitable equivalents from those manufacturers. PROS: Compatible with all Ryiobi ONE 18V batteries. Good lighting. CONS: Quick release collet has issues. Bits eject from collet under spring assist.

      Powerful! Fast! Easy to Hold!
RYOBI nocked this one out of the park! I love the drill. I used it to replace a few boards on my deck and to re-drill some new screws down that had popped up. The drill was easy to use and hold. The drill bit went in and out with little effort. Holding the drill felt real good. It is light weight and the grip is perfect for my hand. Adjusting the power is a nice addition as well. It helped out with a couple of stubborn wood screws. The LED light is a perfect addition as well. Even though I did this in the day, that light will come in real handy. Overall, the drill worked above and beyond. RYOBI has and always will be a go to for tools. I would RECOMMEND to anyone with no hesitation.

RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless 1/4 in. 4-Mode Impact Driver (Tool Only)
My Review for RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless 1/4 in. 4-Mode Impact Driver (Tool Only) I have a few of the older model Ryobi tools, and these new HP versions are really a lot better. This tool has lots of torque and is super easy to hold. I didn't think I was going to use the Assist Mode, but it is really nice for removing screws. It gives six quick pulses to drive or remove a screw, and then it speeds up. Keeps you from stripping out your screw head. I also really like how the lamp stays on for a few seconds after letting go of the trigger.

Ryobi Has Made a Great Step Forward to PRO's and DIYers
RYOBI 18 V Brushless 4-Mode Impact Driver For most trades people Ryobi has been ONLY a homeowner’s DIY tool platform. This Ryobi 18 v 4-Mode Impact Driver should change that perception. You now have a Ryobi tool that meets all of the applications that the other TTI brands have been holding as their own. The Low, Medium, High Speeds and the Assist Modes have changed the game for Ryobi. Low Speed (1) Mode having 0-850 RPM, Medium Speed (2) Mode supplies 0-2,000 RPM, High Speed (3) Mode can deliver 0-2,900 RPM and finally the Assist (A) Mode giving 0-2,900 RPM with faster impacts going in and a full 6 impacts when you are removing stubborn fasteners before continually driving the fastener out. All of those actions are occurring while you have full control driving in or out with the variable speed control trigger adjusting the speed in both directions with your finger-controlled trigger. You only need be aware that continued slow speed operation will put considerable strain on the brushless motor leading to a possible overheating condition. This is to be expected with any motor subjected to intense loading conditions. Another feature that previously was available only to the other more professional tools coming out of the ITT product lineup, was the press to install feature of the retaining collet. Ryobi has now grown up to get the speed modes and now the press to install bit collet. When removing those bits Ryobi now ejects the bits with spring pressure behind them. All in all, Ryobi has now arrived to that crossover position, both the Pros and DIY communities, will be seen using the same tool on the job. Ryobi has now started filling their lineup with tools that fit the demands of the Pros and affordable to the weekend warrior’s budget.

      Solid Impact Driver
First off, I highly recommend everyone get an impact driver in addition to a drill. They work so much better driving screws than a standard drill. Much more torque and less frequent stripping of screws. And change bits out is so much easier with the slip chuck rather than those on a drill. I have the older version of this tool and its got a ton of use over the years. I wanted to upgrade and see what the difference was with the new ones. Overall, its the same great Ryobi product with the addition of Assist Mode which regulates power to the bit to even further decrease the likelihood of stripping out a screw. When you put it up to Level 3, watch out, it has sooo much power and will drive a screw/lag bolt through just about anything in no time. The light is super bright and like the placement on the bottom by the battery as it isn't blocked by the machine and illuminates what you are working on. Now for my once complaint. I get the bonus of having the selection button on the base but why did Ryobi have to get rid of the magnetic screw storage. This is such a great feature on the older model and came in so handy. Bring it back!

Improving on an already good tool -- smaller, lighter, more powerful, more features.
I already have an older Ryobi impact driver (P234G), but the PBLID02B is a significant improvement. It’s shorter (see pics), which can be critical when driving long screws between close-spaced floor joists or studs. It’s fractionally lighter which reduces fatigue when you’re driving hundreds of screws or working overhead. It’s more powerful, though I don’t remember the older model ever being too “weak”. It has an LED light which comes on automatically when you touch the trigger, and stays on a few seconds after you finish. And it has a “mode selector” -- three speeds plus an “Assist” mode. The first three modes limit the maximum RPMs to 850, 2000, and 2900 (respectively). The variable speed trigger works in all modes, so you can theoretically keep the speed low even in mode 3, but mode 1 makes it easier NOT to drive screws too deep in soft materials like cedar pickets or drywall. Assist mode is interesting. When driving, it starts slowly, which helps prevent the bit from stripping the screw head. In reverse, it “pulses” 6 times before spinning normally. This should help break free a screw that’s in very tight. The reverse seemed more helpful to me. See video for a brief demo. As noted in the product description, this is a “bare tool” meaning neither a battery or charger is included. A belt clip (SKU 1005460230) and bit holder (SKU 1005460235) are also extra. Home Depot offers them separately (see SKUs). Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless 1/4 in. 4-Mode Impact Driver (Tool Only) Highly recommended.

      Love this item
I have a larger driller driver and it's heavy. I wanted a smaller one and got this. Fits my small lady hands perfectly. I like the grip. I have several one+ items so the batteries I have work on on this too. This has a nifty light that automatically comes on when you start to drill. The mode button is right on the front and lights up so you can tell which mode you are in really easily. Didn't need the manual to figure out how to insert the bits but it is a pull out mechanism that was easy to maneuver. It's lightweight so doesn't tire my old arms out as easily.

Ryobi PBLID02 4-Mode Impact Driver gets an, "A" for "Assist Mode". This is new, at least to me. Impact drivers with selectable speed ranges are a significant improvement over those without that feature. This impact driver has 3 speed ranges which Ryobi calls, "Modes". The game changer is that 4th mode. Just squeezing the trigger briefly in the A-mode seems to be similar to Mode 1 with a speed of around 800 RPM. That would be an incorrect assumption as that is only how the brushless motor speed assists with starting that screw. With full trigger pull the motor will then, on its own, speed up to 2,900 RPM to finish the drive. It has another trick up its sleeve when removing fasteners in the reverse setting. It will pulse six times before it speeds up to remove the fastener. Other nice features include the one-handed bit insertion collet; the bright LED light, and the rubber bumpers on the sides and rear. Compared to earlier models, the grip seems to have been improved for better control and comfort.

1/4" impact drivers are the swiss army knife of the power tool box - their main job is driving (and removing) screws, but they are also good for lags and for light-to-medium disassembly/reassembly work. I have access to Milwaukee and Ridgid drivers as well as this Ryobi, so naturally a comparison is in order. Even though the Ryobi is the lowest-priced of the three, I don't think it's giving much ground to the others - actually I'd rate it higher than my (older) Ridgid XC drivers due to the three selectable speeds on this Ryobi. I've owned Ryobi 18v tools since the hard-plastic, blue-colored, non-lithium days; I can say their packaging (case, ergonomics, design) has become a lot more pro-like with this generation - there is nothing about the outer casing of this tool that leads me to believe I need to baby it. Assist Mode ("A") is interesting - I've only used it with a couple of test fasteners so far, I can't quite decide if it is fantastic or a gimmick.

RYOBI ONE+ 18V HIGH PERFORMANCE Lithium-Ion 4.0 Ah Battery review: This battery performed similar to the non high performance 4ah batteries that I own. I used it in a 16" Ryobi lawn mower and was able to mow about one third of my front yard (only one side of the yard). The temperature was 77 degrees F when I started. I timed how long it took to charge the battery and it took exactly two (2) hours and seven (7) minutes - that is a long time to charge such a small battery. It does take the Texas heat so that is a good sign. I think it is a better fit for a string trimmer. There ya go!

I've had Ryobi 18v tools since the day they were launched and I love that the batteries are still available. The newer technology batteries still power the older tools which is awesome! So when the RYOBI ONE+ 18V HIGH PERFORMANCE Lithium-Ion 4.0 Ah Battery was available I got one and it's fantastic. It works great with Ryobi's new hp line and performs well with all of their first generation brushless tools but will still run my original Ryobi tools! These batteries have the 4 LEDs level indicators, charge in 30 minutes and power everything!

This is a great addition to boost your RYOBI One+ tool usage and performance. The standard lithium batteries are good but when you need extra power and run time for bigger or longer jobs, this high performance battery will deliver@ 2 more times of runtime and up to 30% more power. It makes sense to have a couple extra batteries on hand so you don’t have to wait for the drained battery to recharge. The lithium batteries don’t gradually loose their power, they drop from full to zero which imho makes better sense than the gradual decline of power.

All of the Ryobi tools I’ve purchased over the years have come with a low Ah battery with the exception of the 315205052 18v power auger. It came with a P197 4.0 Ah battery. I purchased this one so I would have a back-up that way I don’t have to wait for it to charge to finish or continue drilling. This one has the same Ah rating. I’ve had very good luck with Ryobi tools over the years and there tools are great for average home use. I can also use this to get more run time for my leaf blower and string trimmer.

Could be a great tool, but collar wobble issues.
This tool performs great and keeps up with some of the top dogs at a great price point. Much more compact than the p238 and has just as much power. Looks great, feels great & performs great but... there's a caveat. This tool model appears to have some pretty bad collar wobble issues. I've bought three of these and they all exhibit the same issue. After watching a lot of tool reviewers online and seeing them mention the same thing I realized this wasn't an isolated issue. The other day I was making 1" holes with a long spadle bit and had some really severe shaking when I swapped from my drill to my impact. The impact mechanism locked up after the very first hole and would clack back and forth without spinning. I had to apply angled pressure on the bit while driving forward and reverse to pop back in place whatever locked up due to collar shake. It's upsetting because it's genuinely a good impact if it didn't have these issues!

I have been using Ryobi corded tools for years but the flexibility that the new battery operated ones provide makes them much more handy to have around the house. I like the torque that this tool provides and it is much better than other impact drivers I have used. I like the durability and versatility of this tool. In addition, the ability to change out batteries quickly is great. I also appreciate Ryobi’s promise to continue production and use of these batteries for some time to come.

The ryobi one+ 18-volt brushless cordless 1/4 in.-speed impact driver is probably the most improved impact driver on the market today. It is compact and easy to use. It has the 3 speeds from low (1), medium (2), and high (3), and an added ,assist mode (A). When removing fasteners in the assist mode, the driver will pulse 6 times and then speed up to remove the fastener. This helps to break the fastener loose, and easier to remove. This tool is a good fit in ones hand, and has the power to do any job, large or small. This tool will now be included in all my DIY projects.

I am impressed. I am a remodeler so I do all kinds of different work and have used many different tools. I always thought that ryobi was a homeowner brand but this new impact is definitely strong and made very good. I am honestly surprised in a good way. First off plenty of power. Removed lag bolts with ease, drove in 4 in. screws like it was nothing. Anything I put in front of it, it handled it no problems. Even on some long lags it didn’t heat up much and stayed cool. The design is nice and compact and fits in tight spaces and it’s not heavy at all. Good weight and size. The handle is great and even with all that torque and impacting it’s not bad at all. It is pretty loud and that I noticed right away but it’s not anything out of the ordinary for impacts. It has a great collette and I had no issues with a bit falling out or anything like it that and it’s pretty sturdy for good control. The light on it is good and it’s pretty bright. I do wish it came with a belt clip included with the impact and not sold separately. That should be a standard by now. It has plenty of features and some good settings 4 to exact. Power 1-3 and A mode. A mode is interesting because it’s a controlled removal of a fastener with pulsating at first and a controlled removal to finish. In forward it felt like just a slightly slower start to driving in a screw. Battery life is really good. Running it with a 3ah and with it being a brushless impact battery life is excellent. I haven’t had to swap out he battery out in the middle of a project no matter what it’s been so far.I wasn’t a big Ryobi fan but with what I’m seeing they are definitely going in the right direction. I’m very impressed. Would recommend to anyone and the best part Ryobi is known for being more affordable.

For years, my cordless drill has done dual-duty as both drill and screwdriver, but I've discovered there's real benefit in having a separate tool - the Ryobi ONE+ Cordless Impact Driver - for attaching and removing fasteners. Those advantages include increased torque, reduced slippage in a hexagonal collet and bits, fast driver bit changes, and some "driving intelligence" built into the tool for more efficient insertion or loosening of screws and bolts. One of the included video clips show the Automatic reverse setting- a single squeeze of the trigger gets several high-torque jolts to loosen a fastener, followed by a prolonged counterclockwise rotation to continue with screw, nut, or bolt removal. On the forward setting, the Automatic setting is said to start slowly and then increase in speed once the threads have seated. In addition to that automatic setting, there are also three selectable speed ranges, each further modulated by a variable speed trigger. The tool features "grippy" surfaces at the hand-hold, and on the back and left side of the power axis - showing a bias for right-handed tool users. The "ONE+" tool designation indicates that this tool shares the 18 volt removeable battery back and charger system with other Ryobi shop, and lawn and garden tools bearing the "ONE+" designation. Now that I've had a chance to use this Impact driver, my only regret is in not getting one sooner!

The 18V ONE+ HP Brushless 4-Mode 1/4 in. Impact Driver I got this Ryobi Impact driver to rebuild my set of tools. I have a two home renovations and I need every tool imaginable in both places. I know Ryobi to be tough long lasting reliable tools! I opened the box, added the fully charged battery to the Impact Driver and started testing the buttons man! I did not realize this driver came with different levels of speed, yes! 3 levels of speed. When I begin to push those buttons and realized they were different power levels, (reading the manual is key) all I knew at that very moment was all the task I have before me are going to get done with a lot of power! Did I say the battery can be used on all my Ryobi tools? YES!!! game changer who ever thought to make the battery’s fit all Ryobi Tools is a genius. I love the LED Light for when I’m working in dimly lit areas, needless to say the area will have the extra light from this tool. I’m able to change a bits easily without consuming a lot of time to change them. More importantly the grip fits perfectly in my hand. I’ve just started working on the back deck a little ahead of my scheduled time because I wanted to see and feel the power this tool has! I was not at all disappointed!!!! after the adrenaline slowed down I knew I’d be able to hang with the big guys driving those long deck screws into the wooden post like a pro, yes practice makes perfect and with this tool it will be perfect...I’m talking 2,200 in / lbs of torque! I can now drive screws into metal like hot butter. I’m just very excited and happy about my tool choice and the maker of the tools! Love myself some Ryobi Tools! If you need tools that will last, tools that make your job easier and a tool that will stand up to that tough job? This is the tool for you!

First of all... this is a "WOW" unit! To superficially look at it, you notice that it is more compact and shorter in length, which is good. The LED light on this is on the base in front which is better than when mounted on the head of units.( it does not block the light or give shadows on your work). The really nice feature is the 4 mode selection and speed is all in the trigger pressure and use. You can start in slow, then it speeds up to faster. You have easy and complete control during use. The reverse feature is a very innovative idea. The drill starts with 6 bursts to loosen the screw, then begins to extract the fastener. This greatly reduces the head from being striped out, or snapped off! This unit is great for someone that has to use nuts, drive lags, or for fence or metal work. I have more drills, drivers and impacts than my wife knows (thankfully, lol), but I have never seen or operated an impact as nice as this! Very highly recommend...

The Ryobi One+ HP 18-volt brushless cordless 1/4 in 3 speed impact driver arrived safely packaged. This impact driver is compact and easy to handle. The driver is powerful and fast. The 18 volt battery with 5ah allows us to draw 5 amps for 60 minutes which is beneficial when working on longer term projects. The drill allows for easy install for heavy duty or light duty jobs. Easy to add to your socket adapter, driver bits, and nut drivers as Home Depot offers reasonably priced driving kits. I highly recommend this product.

I’m a homeowner/DIY’er, so this review will come from that standpoint. This is a “bare tool” model – no tool bag, battery or accessories are included. It can use any of the Ryobi One+ 18 volt batteries. The new Ryobi model PBLID02 impact driver has a really good feel to it – fit and finish is excellent, balance is good, and I’m finding it very comfortable to hold and use. The weight is good at about 2.5 pounds (not including battery or bit) and the grip is rubberized. A feature I like – one hand bit exchange. A bit can be installed by simply pushing the bit into the collet and removed by pulling on the collet – the bits are spring loaded, and the bit will eject easily. You don’t need to pull on the collet with one hand and the bit with the other. There’s a lanyard loop in the back of the driver, and a belt hook hole on each side of the tool (see photos below), but no lanyard or belt hook are included. There’s the usual trigger lock lever (push to one side for forward, the other side for reverse, in the middle for lock). The trigger is progressive – the tighter you squeeze the trigger the more RPM you get. There are four modes (aka “speeds”), and the mode selector is on the front base of the tool (see photo). The active mode lights up, so there’s no doubt about which mode the tool is in. One mode is “Assist Mode”, which is designed to provide more control. I’m still experimenting with that mode and haven’t found an application where it works better than Mode 1. Of course, I just got the tool and haven’t had a ton of projects to use it on yet. Unlike my old brush model, the new brushless driver doesn’t show sparks when in use. The LED light (in the base, right behind the Mode Select panel) does a nice job of lighting up the work area. Ryobi backs the tool with a 3-year warranty and a 90-day exchange policy. Home Depot offers their 180-day return policy (details available on the Home Depot product page). Recap: In use the tool drives fasteners as advertised, it’s comfortable to hold, the LED lights up the work, and changing bits is a snap. Wearing work gloves doesn’t interfere with using the tool. The tool isn’t overly loud (although you’ll want to wear eye and ear protection, of course). Advice: Have a spare battery on hand and use good quality bits. Those “at the checkout counter” bits are, generally speaking, not all that great. HTH Regards, Jim

I got this impact driver just in time ! I used it to make quick work of driving hundreds of long wood screws to repair a fence. It s light weight, lighter than a drill. I really like the 4-mode setting and the built in LED light. Being brushless, it gives me the added power when needed. It has to be used with impact bits so as to grab the bit and lock it in place. Drill bits and drill bit screwdriver tips do not work. I had some but wen tout and bought a 70 piece Ryobi drill/impact bit set. This tool with most definitely be used often.

I like this one. I've got several impact drivers from different bands and I've come to use them a lot over the past few years. This particular one has a feature I really like. The assist mode. One of my complaints with a few of my drivers is either they are too fast in the highest mode, or don't have enough torque/power in the slower speed modes. The assist feature here is great because it starts off slow then ramps up to speed once you get the fastener going. In reverse mode it delivers 6 hammer blows before it starts spinning which helps to free stuck fasteners without stripping them or twisting the heads off. Other than the assist mode, it's on par with my other Ryobi 1/4" impact as far as run time and performance. I have several Ryobi tools and batteries already so I appreciate the bare tool option.
