Battery Sucks
I’m a homeowner of an 1500 square foot house and i can only weed 1/2 of the front of the house before the battery dies on me.

Workhorse
Ryobi 18V Brushless Cordless 1/4 Inch Impact Driver
The 18-V brushless impact driver is another great tool from Ryobi! I find it very comfortable in the hand and the light is aligned perfectly. The easy change bit holder works without touching the bit, which is a great feature. This 1/4 in driver is a workhorse, with the powerful variable speeds up to 2900 RMP’s and 2200 lbs of torque and easy to use, this Ryobi tool is a professionals dream!
The brushless Roybi HP impact driver is sweet! More torque (up to 2,200 in-lbs) and more impacts per min (up to 0-4,000) over older models. The single LED light works great at lighting up your fastner/but and work area. The impact driver is light weight and very well balanced. I used a 2Amp hr and 4Anp hr battery and did not find it unbalanced or too heavy! The one hand but release is also VERY user friendly when on a ladder, slide it open, and it will lock on next bit placed in it. You will not regret this purchase!
Recently, I received an email, alerting me that a Home Depot "Seeds" campaign was open. I opened the email and went to the 'Dashboard" page and started to go through the latest list of items available. I selected one premium item and was told that I was allowed more items for "Seeds" selection. I went through page after page until I saw a Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Brushless 1/4 in. Impact Driver. I selected it because I already have the proper batteries, since I already have other Ryobi tools in my garage. I didn't realize the major differences until I started to compare my Major brand Impact Drill to the Ryobi Impact Driver and the way the tool is affected. The Major brand Impact Drill torque settings, limit the amount of torque being placed on a tool or to a bolt, limiting the amount of force being applied to the work. The Ryobi Impact Driver places all its force to the tool or bolt until it encounters resistance, then hammers the drill or bolt to the extent of the rated foot pounds of force. It hammers until it is secure, then will break the tool or bolt if you don't stop. I had a different understanding of their actions, and they are not the same. The Ryobi Impact driver has a genuinely nice work light that illuminates the area in front of where you would be working. The fast ball release in the spindle allows for a "one hand" release action for changing bits. It is lighter than an Impact Drill by removing the torque setting and chuck housing. The Ryobi Impact Driver is a well-made tool and carries a three-year warranty. I recommend this tool, now that I know how it's supposed to be used. Included in my photos, are some rudimentary tools and a Lithium Ryobi battery, not included in purchase and for illustration purposes, only..
So if you've been to the Home Depot lately in search of a power tool you know there are a ton of different options to choose from. I can attest that you will not regret choosing Ryobi. First, keep in mind, when you choose a power tool you are also choosing the battery system, including chargers etc. Ryobi has a LARGE selection of batteries and chargers, different capacities and sizes, all interchangeable with the One + tools. Second, the quality of the tools are really good. This impact driver sports a brushless motor, led light and a great chuck. It's well balanced and compact. A bonus, the lime green color makes it easy to spot!
Lastly, Ryobi tools are priced right, add good quality and features and you have a great tool!
This impact driver by Ryobi is a good option if you are already in the Ryobi platform. Let me go over the specs for the driver, the things I like about it and the things I don’t like. The driver has a 1/4 inch metal collet that is spring loaded. The driver is also has up to 2,900 rpms but there is no multiple speed selection and the trigger does not seem to be a great variable speed option.
What I liked about the driver is the light is bright and stays on for a long period of time after pulling the trigger. The head of the driver is solid metal. The handle is comfortable in the hand and easy to get a good grip on. They have placed rubber molding on the driver head to protect the driver and material you are using it on.
The things I do not like is the driver is on the bigger side and heavier side than most other drivers I have used. The power of the driver does not compare to the size and weight. I compared it with another TTI built driver that is red in color and this one was beat pretty easily. Finally the collet on my driver got stuck in the open position each time i ejected the bit so I would have to reset it.
Final impression is that if you are already in the Ryobi platform this could be a good option but would not say it would be worth switching platforms to use
So I am a Ryobi Fan, I have to admit, Getting this Ryobi One 18V Brushless Cordless Impact Driver was the start of me getting rid on my old Ryobi equipment and replacing them with their new Brushless equivalent. Has a very nice grip and tons of power with a variable speed trigger. The metal housing on the front is nicely made and the one hand bit change is extremely appreciated. Nice LED light on the drill to help see what your doing. Really Ryobi did a great job with this Impact Driver as well as there entire brushless line. Used it today to remove some bolts on an old ATV and it had no problem. Yes I will probably buy more of this brushless 18v line. No doubt. Important that you purchase Ryobi Bit case that has everything you could ever need for bits for this great Impact Driver.
This Ryobi 18v brushless impact driver is nice and compact for getting into tighter areas than the bigger drills. It is sturdy and well made. Has some very nice features, such as a quick release collar for changing bits easily. Just push the bit into the collar and it auto locks. Then to release, just pull the collar down. How easy! Has a variable speed trigger, LED light on the base, keyless chuck, good powerful torque which is good for keeping pressure on deck screws that helps prevent them from stripping. This is a great tool for the DIYers or the Professionals. Highly recommend this guy!
Let me start by saying, I never realized how much I was missing out on by not having an impact driver in my tool collection. I have always been one of those people that has one drill which I use for both drilling holes and driving screws, constantly having to change out bits.
The Ryobi impact driver makes short work of driving screws into wood, something my drill could do, but no where near as efficiently. We have been doing loads of renovations out in the garden and I was easily able to drive deck screws into the new garden beds we are building and remove old screws from an older bird feeder we are refurbishing.
Hands down one of my favorite features is the quick release/loading for swapping out bits. Bits are loaded by just pushing them into the collar which automatically locks them in. To release the bit, you just pull the collar, and it spits your bit right out. The speed of the driver is controlled with the trigger which provides a great range of speed options. The light on the base aims up allowing you to see exactly where you are driving your screws in, a neat design feature with the light being at the base of the driver is that your hand will not block the light.
The driver comes in at 2lb 5oz, not including the battery you decide to attach to this unit. The length without a bit attached is roughly 5.5 inches, a great size for those tight and hard to reach places.
Overall, I love the driver and can see it getting loads of use around the house, the only thing I wish it had would be a little magnetic tray at the base like my drill does to hold extra screws.
The RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless 1/4 in. Impact Driver is so cool as it really produces big results from a comfortable compact hand tool. It drills nuts, bolts, screws in various sizes very fast and doesn't slow down one bit. The on board light is great in dark spots and helps tremendously. The torque is surprisingly efficient for a tool this compact. The variable speed trigger helps ease whatever your drilling to avoid seizing up and stripping screws etc. Plus they are compatible with hundreds of other 18v Ryobi tools and they back up with a 3 year warranty. Another great addition to my Ryobi family of tools.
I received this impact driver to review. It does not come with a battery or charger, so you’ll have to purchase those to use this tool, which I did.the impact driver is strong and drives Hardie backer screws easily and quickly through pre drilled quarts counter top holes into
1 1/2 inch wood structure. The tool feels well balanced in my hand and is easy to maneuver. It does not have a belt hook or any way to hold it on to a work belt, which is the only con that I have with this tool. Ryobi makes a very good and useful tool and has a three year warranty.
This brushless impact driver is a definite upgrade from my original impact. The build is a bit more compact, it has the LED that lights up when you pull the trigger, and the LED stays lit for several seconds after your release the trigger. The chuck is easy to operate. The ergonomics of the driver are perfect, I have big hands and the grip is beefy and feels great in my hand. I see this being a mainstay in my DIY arsenal for years to come
These new Ryobi Brushless motors are VERY strong.
I like the compact size and light weight. It fits in my tool bags neatly without usurping too much room. But it performs like a show-dog when it comes to POWER!
HOW I TESTED THIS:
I just built and installed super heavy-duty railings for our basement steps. They have 22 balusters with 6 two-inch lag-screws each. This little beast drilled all the pilot-holes then drove all 132 of those long-bolts home fast, on a single charge, and still had plenty of juice left. That indicates a strong efficient motor and power management.
The single LED light shines upward from the driver's base. Some prefer the "shadowless" three-LED nose-mounted light designs. But I find that the shadow this light casts actually makes it easier to locate and place the bit. The shadow and the bit converge to inform my weary eyes and guide my hands. That may seem like a small thing, but when you have over a hundred holes to drill and bolts to drive, that saves time and frustration.
The spring-release chuck is also a welcome feature. It ejects quick-change bits automatically without touching the bit. That's much appreciated when a drill-bit is HOT. I can't say how many times I've burnt my fingers pulling out hot bits from older chuck designs.
So far, I've tried out four new Ryobi tools with their brushless motors. This, and the others, offer powerful professional performance at a very reasonable price.
My impact driver finally gave up. I was glad to find a replacement. I use this for just about everything. Mainly screws that wouldn't go in unless they had a little impact behind the screwdriver. I wasn't worried that it was tool only, I have a line up of batteries and chargers on my workbench. When a battery runs out of power, I get another remembering to put the drained one on to charge.
You can't go wrong with this driver. It may be the most useful tool you'll buy
Love this impact driver even more than I thought I would. I have wanted one of these a while even though I have four 18V drills and a couple line powered ones because I probably use a drill as a driver as much as I use any tool I have. Now that I have it, I wonder why I waited. This is so perfect for the job. It beats the heck out of a drill and a bit holder for the job. For one it has all the same power. But on top of that it has the advantage of being much more compact even more so than the compact drills I have. (see the side by side pics of it by a couple drills). The bit holder is a well done design. It’s easy to insert or remove bits and it holds on to them great. One issue I always have with drills is the bit holder getting loose especially when removing things using it in reverse a lot. That will never be a problem with this. If I could only have two 18V tools they would be a drill and this driver. If I could only have one it might just be this one. I have a lot more than that but if everything but two had to go this would be a keeper. You just can’t go wrong with this especially at Ryobi’s price point which can’t be beat period. I just wish I’d got this sooner. I’m going on a trip in a few days and I can’t carry a lot of tools because I’m going to a defunct coal plant to rip out a bunch of chassis of rack mounted electronics and we need all the van space we can manage to load things up so I need to pack light. (We only have a limited time window). And this is one of the tools I’m taking along with a selection of bits and sockets for it and some extra batteries. I have several time proven drills I could take but this wins the spot. That’s how confident I am in it after trying it out. Just can't say enough good about this one. I may have to get another.
This Impact Driver is one of several tools that Ryobi has designed to use with their 18volt Lithium ion battery. Once you have the battery you can mix and match tools that use it. I just added this Impact Driver to my growing collection of Ryobi tools. An Impact Driver is designed to drive and remove screws. It does the job faster and better than you could ever do by hand. If you are going to be using a number of screws then you will love using this driver. It has a brushless motor which would be expected be long lasting with no bushes to wear out. It has an incredibly bright LED light in front that comes on automatically when the driver is engaged, Even in daylight you would be surprised at how much better you can see your work with this LED light. Although it does not have as much torque as some tools specifically designed to handle bolts, there is an adapter available at HD that fits this driver that will allow you to use it to set and remove bolts. The handle is comfortable and the driver is easy to manage. All in all a great driver and one I was happy to add to my tool kit.
Significantly more power than a drill when driving screws!!
I decided to add this Ryobi impact driver to my tool collection to complement my drill.
I love how the impact driver is more compact than a drill (see photo). Your hand is not as far away from the screw, so you have better leverage when driving.
I also love how it only takes one hand to insert and remove the drill bits, thanks to an ingenious quick release ring (see photo).
The placement of the LED light at the base of the handle near the battery is also ingenious as it shines up completely illuminating the work area (see photo).
FYI there is an ample amount of rubber guarding around this driver to prevent it from getting damaged as you lay it down and or possibly drop it.
I used this impact driver to drive 4 inch exterior screws into a backyard play center that my daughters and I designed and built from scratch out of pressure treated lumber (see photo). This impact driver had no issue driving in the screw, and seems to be less prone to strip out the screws than a drill.
I then used a drill to drive in the 4 inch screws to compare it to the impact driver‘s performance. I noticed that about halfway in the drill started slowing down and struggling some.
FYI this impact driver is not designed to be used as a drill, so owning a driver and a drill is a worthy investment as both have their specific strengths.
Overall I highly recommend this Ryobi impact driver, especially since it takes the same Lithium battery series as all the other cordless Ryobi cordless tools.
Very well made solid impact by Ryobi again, already have on but always like a extra impact driver incase I drop mine. This impact feels great in the hand and will drive anything with ease. This is my strong 2nd favorite impact from Ryobi, my first is the Ryobi P238. This drill has 0-2,900 rpm’s and control it by how much you pull the trigger, fully engaged trigger will get the max 2,900 rpm’s and half pull of course 1/2 the rpm’s and so on. Has a great light at the base angled up slightly to help to see what you drilling in dark areas, not as loud as other models but you can hear how strong the motor is. I would strong suggest in getting impact rated bits, if you use impacts as much as like I do be sure to upgrade bits to and brand. I feel 100% Confident about recommending this Ryobi 1/4 impact driver PBLID01, great feel and very strong.
Lighter and more compact with longer run times compared to prior version. Includes a ONE+HP (High Performance) ¼ inch impact driver tool only. A good choice if you already have the battery and charger.
The brushless motor combines reduced battery drain and adjustability to match task requirements. Rotation speed increases with trigger pull and brakes quickly with trigger release. Built-in LED illuminates the work area when the trigger is pulled and for a few seconds after release.
This impact driver delivers high torque for driving large screws and bolts. It is capable of driving 5-inch screws into a pressure-treated deck. The ¼ inch quick-connect collet enables convenient one-handed bit replacement.
It’s too soon to assess durability and reliability. No problems so far with my other Ryobi drills and drivers. Three years warranty. Made in China.
I own many Ryobi's equipment and have since the early 2000's. I also own other brands but honestly they dont seem to last as long as Ryobi. I been needing this compact drill for sometime and finally received it from Homedepot and I must say it is small and light and the instructions tell you how to clean and care of it. the light is perfect and give off alot of light in dark places when you need it. it has a lot of torque compared to some of my other impact drivers and i am impressed. Since it is small and light i don't even feel it in my bag when caring it and it fits perfect in my box with my other tools. I would recommend this drill 100% if you need a strong light impact drill. the quick disconnect is also awesome you can disconnect with one hand while holding the drill this makes it simple to change bits
I've never owned an impact driver before, but didn't know what I was missing. Was surprised at the power this thing had when driving home lag screws. I really liked the simple bit changes where you just snap them in and pull on the metal ring to eject them. When you're driving a screw an LED light comes on to assist your visibility. Note that this is the tool only and the battery and charger are not included. They assume you already have one of their tools along with a battery and charger. The driver has good power. Great for driving Ledger Lock screws or anything similar. Even with deck screws, it helps to keep enough pressure on the screw head to keep it from stripping. The small size is really helpful for working in between deck joists, too, for example.
I have only had this for a couple weeks but so far it works great. No problems with shipping, I got when they said I would. I like that I can use it with my other Ryobi tools that I have.
