Bad Design
I don’t mind using a wrench to change bits, but it has to be easy. Not only does the “quick-change” collet get stuck, even using the provided wrench is a huge effort using one hand to hold down the spindle lock (tiny!) and other hand to try to get the wrench to budge. It’s a terrible design. I wanted something more portable yet powerful and my flexshaft(which cost half) is still the better choice. I’d not have spent this much on something that I have to spend time and money getting to work.

    Darn Nice Ryob(Eh!)
(1). I asked a question above that was promptly answered, thank you kindly Ryobi. I can second the answer with Yes. The Kit, Does come with the foot pedal. Also the price I was incorrect on the dual battery Drill/Driver Kit is actually 20 dollars less than this kit and priced the same as the 4.5" Angle Grinder Kit. I prefer picking them up as kits so they always have dedicated batteries and charger. But more should come with the inexpensive zipper bag. I think. (2). I wrote all this out for 30 minutes and tried to go back now I can't remember what I said..... (3). The foot pedal is the variable control and the speed dial is stepped set rpm. (4). Glad it came with a little kit for discs, holds way more stuff than the last tools case ever did. Soo tired of the others cord not wanting to stay in the case when I try to close it. I considered the older p460 for the variable dial and the way it mounted on the wall by 2 points and has the bits on top, but I'm soo glad I picked this kit. My wife even said it's her favorite from my line up and I have the HP Brushless Table Saw Kit! (5). It's not a high torque demanding tool so it doesn't pull from the HP tabs supplying 2ish volts and the other is 17ish volts depending on battery life I'm presuming. So I'm considering some older PBP006 with Eve cells for it. Good sales on those batteries. Good cell data sheets. (6). Ohh. My fancy quick release cutting disc with the time shaped lock locks discs in with a wobble as it rotates. I managed to straighten it enough to feel comfortable by compressing the neoprene washer it has. Then I used it to cut the full spouts off a new copper/silver coin and had No Visible Loss or Wear on the Ryob(Eh) cutting disc. Super stoked about that. The dremel discs I was using before would shatter on me All the time..... (7). I do, apsolutely recommend this ..... Ryob(Eh) 18Volt One Plus Brushless, deep breath, Flexible Shaft Rotary Hand Tool. huhh.....

      Good deal
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm a general contractor and machinist. I've been using a handheld rotary tool with a manual chuck for about 12 years. After doing research on a Dremel and Ryobi cable rotary tool, I decided to try the Ryobi. I just used this rotary tool an hour ago to grind a small riveted axle to remove a 2" caster wheel. I'm impressed. I kept the flex shaft as straight as possible to minimize any drag. I used it on the slowest setting #5 because it didn't seem lose any torque. I don't understand. Specs say 1K to 25K rpms but the dial starts at 5. Meaning it actually starts at 5K rpms? I'll use this for light or delicate jobs and I'll use my electric angle grinder or air die grinder for more demanding jobs. I really like the keyless chuck, it saves time. Mine came with a manual chuck if I need it

          It needs to be improved
The product does not have very good ergonomics. Precision drill bits cannot be used with the quick change chuck. The product does not fit into the category of competing with rotary tool manufacturers for the jewelry industry

broke during first initial test run shaft stripped and melted
I originally went with Ryobi when I started working on my remodel. I broke so many vacs,, drills, drivers, saws from 12" miter to a circular all brushless tools. Even there caulk gun is trash. I recently gave Ryobi another chance and I've had good luck with the 40 v series with the lawn mower and weed wacker and generators those work great. but all my heavy duty tools I get ridgid or milwaukee. Ridgid because warranty for life, milwaukee because name brand brushless impacts don't mess around. I've dropped my ridgid 1/4 brushless impacts off my roof atleast 10 times I left out in monsoon rain by mistake for 2 days straight. still runs fine years later. Ryobi is great for the weekend warrior that is going to make 3 cuts on less with a Sawzall on the weekend. if your more real world you beat on them like me and this tool I didn't even need to do that. I was practicing and noticed within a minute of use the tip end of the shaft was kinda warm almost hot. I kept going I tried 4 or 5 attachments for less than a minute each. it acts like it wants to work but than when there's a load or you tilt the tool down the weight of it alone puts too much load on it. turns out Ryobis shafts is held in on each side by about 2 thread counts. stripped both sides evenly ironically. I also found a melt mark about a foot downstream where the spiral metal ends. this review is for 1he ryobi brushless flex shaft which is supposed to be the best one. other things I noticed the orientation with the on off is backwards. you turn it the right for off but left for on. also I really wish this came with a Rev meter so when I am using the foot pedal I could be better acquainted with correct speeds. which by the way foot pedal sucked. all it does is Rev it up it was really annoying and wished that the safety or the way that it secures was different atleast. if you don't have it attached it slides thanks to the safety, you kinda use two feet sideways. also everything I did was practice on 3 pennies and sharpen one side of a 6 in knife. also the whole twist lock thing and saying it was compatible with Ryobi link (bitboxes) was not only confusing but there is no pictures for separate ryobi kits like the sanding and grinding kit. no pictures but it does list what it has, oh what the listing is not in order or backwards. so for someone who's never used 80% of the random stuff it comes with was frustrating none the least. some things really could've been labeled or atleast numbered to the corresponding list... had to watch YouTube to figure out all the attachments. got this to sand underneath the edge of my newly poured epoxy countertop will have to get a new one of these or similar. so yea if it's annoying like the majority of ryobis. one day they'll catch up.

              Ryobi HP Rotary tool
This Ryobi 18v HP brushless rotary tool has some great upgrades from the older model , has a quick change for accessories which ends up being 4x fast for bit changes. It’s a lot quieter then older version and with the battery in front and stand on bottom it’s really well balanced. Came with a couple different collects and a 40pc accessory kit, and even can use a foot pedal instead of turning dial for speed adjustment but foot pedal sold separately. The flexible cord is great for odd jobs with different angels, and with a easy convenient on/off button up front for easy control of speed. Has a nice easy bracket to hold your cable when not in use, just slide either on left or right side of controller. Love the Ryobi HP series which no longer can be called just a home owners tool or DYI TOOL. I absolutely 100% would recommend this Ryobi HP 18v brushless rotary tool to anyone, with a foot pedal ( sold separately) you can control speed with your feet to leave your hands free for more precision on you work.

Love the reach of this rotary tool
I use these kind of rotary tools a lot to clean and polish metal parts for my lamp making and sculpture work. I really like this tool because it has a good reach and can get into and under the parts that other tools can;t reach. It has a foot control which makes it so much easier for me to run the tool and control both the tool and the product. With a variety of attachments this tool can really show its versatility.

Great Precision Tool for Variety of Uses!
This is great tool for detail work and small size projects. I have used handheld corded rotary tools before and found that the weight of the tool in your hand became tiring, and the cord was an issue. The cord would not only be in the way of your work, but you need a power source in the area where you would work. This 18v cordless unit allows you to work in an area where AC power is not available. The only weight you have in your hand is the slender handle and the end of the cable (36" flexible shaft), for the accessory tools. The major weight of the tool, which is the battery and rotary motor, sit on the table or can be mounted to the wall by your bench, if you like. The kit includes an ample supply of accessories(33 pieces, with a storage case), and a foot pedal control, which allows great flexibility to your handling of the speed. This is a very well built unit and I would highly recommend this for many types of jobs you may need a detail tool for. My wife is already very interested in it for her wood craft projects! ( I might not get to use it as much as I think). Or she may need to get her own.. lol

RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Rotary Tool (Tool Only) Great for Hobbyists
The RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Rotary Tool (Tool Only) is a great tool for anyone who requires fine sanding, polishing, or is involved in hobbies that requires a rotary tool. The nice thing about this tool is its portability, and that it works with RYOBI's battery packs. The base also swings out and serves as a carry handle. Located on the side is the tool holder. The cable is a good length. It is heavy weight. The unit comes with a great accessory pack full of over 40 different pieces. The tool is an 18 volt tool. The motor is brushless. The tool is made of both aluminum and plastic. The tool head is a quick change for easy exchange of tools. There is also an optional foot pedal control available separately for this unit. The tool is well built and easy to operate. The holder is capable of being put on either side depending on your orientation. It is ergonomically designed. I'm happy with the tool, and provides that added edge to my hobbies. I rate this tool 5*s out of 5 Thank you RYOBI for allowing me to try your product. Thank you Home Depot Seeds for offering this product to me.

              Conevient, Neat, powerful, ergonomic
Strong, Neat and Convenient. This is MUCH STRONGER than my other rotary tools, and that includes corded models. Unlike corded models, this only has the drive shaft, because it is battery powered. That makes it much neater to hang or set on a bench. It's always handy, but out of the way. They include a plastic hanger for the handle too! The drive shaft is thick and robust, yet flexible. That, plus the slim handle allows me to change work-angles for polishing guitar-frets and small metal parts instantly. Since most of the weight is supported by the motor-battery housing, this is easy to maneuver. At times, it almost feels weightless! Speed control and range is more than adequate for my needs. IT HAS A FOOT CONTROL! That is a VERY helpful feature for the type of work I do. The foot control lets me change speeds, and turn On-Off hands free! That means I can use my spare hand for moving small parts or whole guitars into a comfortable working position without extra motions. That might not seem like a big thing, until you polish frets on five guitars a day. That's over a hundred frets! On repetitive jobs like those, small time-savings really boost efficiency! The power-cell and motor body can be hung on the lip of a tool box for mobile work. The wire legs have rubber that grips a work surface, so I can just set it on my bench for horizontal work. It also has provions to mount this to a tool wall or peg board. I even like the little accessory box because it's small. I keep it loaded with my most-used bits near the tool. That also saves time hunting for bits. Other rotary tools I've owned have BIG CLUMSY boxes full of many nearly useless accessories. I think they do that to make us falsely believe those are a bargain. This arrived with the polishing and sanding bits I use most, and even included some polishing rouge in a convenient small lidded cup! I showed this to my neighbor who crafts jewelry. I let her try it for a few minutes. She got on her phone and ordered one immediately. Between my wife, myself and the kids, we have over forty RYOBI tools. They have all been powerful performers. Over the last fifteen years, only ONE of our fifty Ryobi batteries has failed, and that was because I lent the tool to a careless neighbor. I am completely sold on Ryobi tools and batteries as the BEST VALUE. NO...they do not pay me to say that. True, I have received a few Ryobi tools for reviewing, but MOST of our many Ryobi tools were purchased by myself, my wife or our children. I'm not kidding. I own every major brand of power and hand tools. Most of them are good. But I think Ryobi gives us the best bang for the buck. If you do any sort of crafting, sculpting, cleaning or polishing of small parts, you should give this little guy a try. It's super convenient but very powerful. The ergonomic features are what make it stand out as my favorite and most-useful new shop tool.

              Powerful and convenient
A convenient iteration of the ubiquitous rotary tool, this design is useful for those who do mostly bench work, but not always at the same location nor near an AC power supply. If you already have a compatible 18V Ryobi battery (batteries) from other tools the convenience factor increases. Supplied in the package are: an 18-volt, 2 Ah Lithium battery, battery charger, rotary tool drive (“console”), three- and one-half-foot flex cable, the tool handpiece and an accessory kit in a carrying case. The accessory kit includes mandrels for the included polishing wheels, sanding drums, cutoff discs (twist lock style), as well as several cutters and abrasive stones. Instructions are provided for; the rotary tool, the accessory package, battery, battery charger along with instructions for the use and replacement of the supplied collets (1/8 inch). The “console” has connections for the flexible shaft as well as the supplied foot control pedal. A speed control knob (with a position for the foot pedal) is mounted on the panel of the console. Included in the instructions are maximum speeds for the various accessories. When in the “foot pedal” position, the tool will rotate at low speed, even if the pedal is not depressed, and rotate at increasingly faster revolutions as the pedal is depressed. It is not necessary to have he foot pedal connected to use the tool, if one desires to just use a fixed speed selected by the speed control knob on the console. Keyhole openings are integral with the console, charger, and foot pedal for mounting on a vertical surface. Additionally, the console is supplied with a wire bail which can be swung up and used to support the console from a shelf or other adequate surface. The bottom of the foot pedal incorporates a non-skid elastomeric pad to minimize movement when the foot pedal is in use. Having the tool on a flexible shaft removes a lot of the bulk encountered when using a self-contained rotary tool, allowing for more precise work, and ease in supporting. The tool does not lack in power, as even when “leaning into it" there was no noticeable bogging down of the brushless motor. In the short time that I have had this tool, the only two features that I found somewhat problematic are the constant, low-speed rotation of the tool in foot pedal mode and the style of foot pedal which puts the stress on one’s ankle/heel for support as opposed to a treadle style pedal which allows one’s foot to remain fully supported and, in my opinion, allows for more precise control. If most of your use will be using the console control for selecting speed, this will not be an issue.

              Great tool, very handy
Really happy with this tool. The aluminum pen feels very solid and well built, yet lightweight. My only gripe with it is that the button to lock rotation is somewhat small and uncomfortable to use. Changing out attachments is easy thanks to the quick change metal collet. It works very well - no need to fiddle with the tiny wrenches that these kinds of tools normally come with! So far I've used this tool to cut metal of varying thickness and for sanding. The included accessories have, so far, held up to my uses. Battery life has great so far, but unfortunately I failed to get any accurate runtime numbers out of it. In addition to two mounting holes for screws, the base has a metal bracket which can be used to hang it out of the way, which helps keep your workspace clear of clutter, especially when using the foot pedal. Unfortunately the tool continues to spin at a low speed when the foot pedal is connected, so it must be switched off. Kind of annoying. On a related note, it would be great if the foot pedal's power cord were a foot or two longer. The base also has a small pen holder to help keep everything together when not in use. Overall a great tool with some minor issues.

              Fantastic precision tool
I got this rotary tool (PBLRT01) and I am amazed by the quality of design, how it was built and materials used. This is a 1/8" collet (3.2mm), dual control rotary tool. RPMs are variable and more gradient when using the foot pedal, and they can be turned up at increments of 5,000 rpm using the rotary dial in the front. The foot pedal is nice and intuitive, large and provides enough positive pressure so you can feel the resistance with your foot. The added safety paddle is a nice feature and a must have on such a tool. The tool comes with a high performance One+ Li-Ion 18V battery (PBP003) of 2.0 Ah capacity, which is perfectly adequate for medium to lengthy tasks at highest rpm settings. This is possible due to the brushless motor which uses less electric power to output consistently more torque under drag. This makes it the perfect combination for power tool of this rating and application. The tool can be wall mounted, sit on antivibration leg bracket, or hung at the bracket when flipped. The flexible shaft is 36" (91.5 cm) long and composed of friction resistant rubber, with metal spring reinforced connections on both ends, which have good oil seals to prevent grease from coming out while allowing torque to be transferred to the handle with minimal loss in friction. After continuous operation of 15 min at 25,000 rpm the battery was drained 1/5 and the shaft wasn't even registering as warm to the touch. Both ends have oil sealed bearings. the inside rotating stem itself is very strong, doesn't twist and as long as it is kept in its sealed lubricated environment will serve heavy duty cycles for decades. The plastic hull of the tool has been manufactured from HDPE with at least 15% fiber reinforcement, which makes it extremely resistant to cracking from occasional bumps and drops. For that price, I expected the tool to have a carry bag, and yet it is not meant to be carried around. The tool certainly has built in mobility with the batteried design. However, it can't be operated while charging the battery, you need to take the battery out and use the provided PCG002 18V One+ Lithium-Ion Charger. Although a little inconvenient when working with a depleted battery, the charger is rather fast in getting the battery ready to complete a small task. Full charge takes around 50-60 min on an old battery and 35-45 min on a brand new one. The charger has a 6' cord and a 60W transformer on it, and can be used with any other One+ battery. The chuck is keyless quick connect and it grips very well any accessory as long as they are in the 1/8" size. The build quality on this is phenomenal, it had great grip, balance and control, swapping tools is effortless and fast and there is absolutely no wobble even at a fraction of a mm even at the highest lateral load under the highest RPM. I think this is what makes it such a great tool. The base of the tool has swappable left to right holder for the head. It also comes with 40 accessories, space collet and tightening cap, cutting wheels, buffing discs and paste, basically with all that you need to take on any project - large or small. In terms of pricing, it is placed very well, slightly above the average, and yet the product offers so much more quality of design and materials used, craftsmanship and precision that it is a must have in every home. The tool comes in the original package which is very sturdy, so online ordering is certainly a good option.

Overall a good system for benchtop work.
This review is for the 18V Ryobi Rotary Tool Kit, Product PBLRT01K1. The kit includes one 18v., Ah Li-Ion battery, battery charger, brushless motor-equipped power unit, flexible drive shaft, foot pedal speed control and tool accessory kit. As delivered with approximately 25% of charge, it took an hour on the supplied charger to charge fully. This tool has plenty of power for use with the supplied tools. The flexible drive shaft is not overly cumbersome or stiff, it being easier to maneuver than my 120v.Dremel Moto Tool 385 rotary unit when doing benchtop work. This Ryobi tool is relatively quiet compared to my old Dremel as well. This tool works with Dremel tools rotary tools. Speed control is either by a supplied foot pedal or by the rotary speed selector dial on the power unit. The foot pedal control is the easier of the two to use. The run time is quite long starting with a full battery charge. This tool comes with a 3-year limited warranty. The tool I got does not shut off fully with the speed dial or foot pedal at the "zero" speed selection, it maintaining a rotation speed of around 100 to 150 rpm at the zero speed settings.. For no rotation, one has to set the power control switch to "off". This, to me, is an indication that I have a defective tool. As a result, I have downrated it to 4-stars, as delivered. I would otherwise given it a 5-sar rating.

              Great Rotary Tool by Ryobi
This rotary tool by Ryobi would be a great addition to anyone’s lineup of tools. The rotary tool is well built and very easy to set up and use. The tool comes with two types of chucks, a quick change chuck and your standard chuck. The quick change chuck is nice but I prefer the standard chuck. The rotary base has an easy to use on/off switch and a dial to increase the rpms of the tool. The tool can got from 5,000 rpms to 25,000 rpms. The rotary tool has a pen like end where your different craving tips and cutting discs are added. This is made of metal and is nice and the hand with low vibration when using. This rotary tool can also be used with a foot pedal to control the on off and speed. This set comes with a few accessories including cutting discs, sanding discs, polishing pads, and shaping tips. This is all included in a nice carrying case. The rotary tool is capable of standing or being mounted to a wall. Overall this is a great tool and would recommend anyone getting it.

I have always wanted a precision rotary tool
I have always wanted a precision rotary tool for cosplay purposes. I absolutely LOVE THIS TOOL, I have used it for shaping EVA foam and many other purposes, as well as light sanding on wood and plastic. I cannot recommend this product enough. The flex shaft is so useful and a lot more accurate than just using the tool itself. Even at full price it is insanely worth it.

              I Love It
I've used a rotary tool for many years, and they're very handy to have around. Sometimes, though, the weight of the tool and the bulk required when the motor is in the handle make precision work like carving difficult. So, I was excited to try out this Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Rotary Tool. The handle is very light and maneuverable, which gives the operator a firm, precise feel when cutting or grinding. The drive shaft delivers plenty of power from the brushless motor to the working surface without binding. The rotary speed is variable, although at preset levels. A quick-change chuck is included to speed up bit changing. The tool comes with a nice assortment of bits for cutting, grinding, or sanding. This tool has already become my "go-to" for any small precision cutting jobs in my shop. I highly recommend it!

Great power. Easy to hold (not too thick). Great rotary tool.
So when I first brought this out of the box and turned it on, I thought I was going to give it 4 stars. I was not a fan of how the rotary tool still spun while on pedal mode and no pressure was on the pedal. I still don't. I think that is quite odd and a waste of battery. But, the power this thing has makes up for that oddness. Now, I was just using a little piece of soft pine wood as my test, but I barely noticed any reduction in RPMs when I pressed into the wood with the tool. The motor in this thing is super nice. I have an older Ryobi rotary tool that has the motor built into the hand-held portion of the tool; that motor is so much weaker. This one I think has the motor actually in the unit that sits on the table, and is WAY more powerful. Since the motor is in the table unit, the hand-held portion of the device can be much thinner and easier to maneuver. I can basically hold this thing like a pen, which gives me super fine control. The metal construction of the tool makes this feel super solid in the hand, too. The tool comes with a manual chuck that also has a small wrench if you really want/need to clamp down on the bit you're using. I really like the design and it makes it easy to switch bits when needed. The cord for the pedal is long enough that I can use it standing up on my sit-stand desk, which was a great design choice. I'm 6'2" and there was plenty of slack in the pedal control while standing. The battery of course is like any other Ryobi battery. It fits all the 18v tools, which is great. It charges fairly quickly, and has a nice set of indicator LEDs to tell you how much power is left in it. If you are going to use the tool for longer periods of time, I do recommend having a second battery on hand to use while the other charges. If I could change one thing, I'd figure some way to have the motor stop completely when no pressure is on the pedal (while on pedal control mode). Otherwise, this is a super solid tool and I highly recommend it for anyone who uses a rotary tool.

Multi-speed battery operated rotary base, flex shaft, and light weight hand tool.
The idea that this allows portability of a tool type (separate motor, flexible shaft, rotary tool) which is usually confined to a workbench/workshop area is interesting. This rotary tool comes with two collets (the once installed out of the box allows for quick changes) and a nice started set of grinding, cutting, and polishing tools. It does have a connector spot for a foot switch which is not included. It can be used on the ground or wall mounted. With a 4ah battery, it ran with a good amount of power and did not fade in performance during roughly 20 minutes of testing. The handle portion is simple design, the shaft is less flexible than other similar tools that I have used but does not seem too stiff, and the speed selector switch provides a straight forward selection of a number of fixed speeds. The online ads for the footswitch indicate that it will support continuously variable speed adjustment.

              Improved Over Older Versions
The RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless Rotary Tool Kit with 2.0 Ah HIGH PERFORMANCE Battery represents an improvement over the older Ryobi cordless rotary tool. There are several differences including a brushless motor, shaft-driven hand piece and a lot more power. This is a One+ HP 18V product and it is the most advanced high-performance rotary tool in the Ryobi lineup. This kit comes with a high-performance 18V 2.0 AH battery, a charger and a nice set of attachments. There is also a foot pedal that allows varying the speeds without using your hands. The motor of this tool is contained in the base-unit and a shaft conveys power to the hand piece. It reminds me of a Foredom unit with a little less power and cost. The base unit can rest on a bench or can be hung from a convenient place near your work. Since this is a battery-powered tool you won't need an AC outlet as long as you have a charged One+ 18V battery. This kit comes with one 2.0 AH battery but any One+ 18V battery will work. I tested this rotary tool and found it is quiet, has little vibration and has lots of power. The foot-control allows full variable-speed control but the base unit has set stops on the speed control knob if you decide not to plug in the foot control. One small gripe is that once you turn on the on/off switch the tool turns slowly and can't be stopped. The operation manual says this is normal but I can't see why the tool's shaft couldn't be designed to stop when the speed dial or foot control is at the lowest setting. However this is a very good rotary tool and the fact that it is portable is a plus. It has many different uses to include hobbies and woodworking. I used mine today, with a grinding wheel attachment, to smooth out burrs on the trailer hitch release clip of my log splitter. Any attachments that fit Dremel rotary tools (as far as the collets and shafts) will fit this Ryobi HP+ tool. I think that this HP+ rotary tool is a very good and well-designed tool and though it may not replace the normal AC powered bench rotary tools, it certainly gives us an alternative where and when we aren't close to an AC outlet. I like this tool and would recommend it for those who want a portable rotary tool where AC power may not be available.

Another good tool to add to your arsenal.
I have been a staunch ally and proponent of Ryobi tools for years. Over those years there have been a few duds. This is not one of them but I do have a concern about the tool rotating, albeit slowly, when it is set for the foot pedal. I think there should be a holder of some sort that the tool could be placed in or rest upon similar to soldering irons or hair curlers. Having said that, I like the ease of use, battery, charger, and the bits and sanders. I was able to use it immediately on a handle adapter for a shower faucet that I had to fill with an epoxy and grind down the excess.

              Excellent microtool
This tool is Ryobi which is my husbands favorite brand. He really likes the fact that he can operate this with either his foot or manually. It comes it’s own charger which is interchangeable with his other Ryobi tools. He will use it for detail metal work, on his models, cutting plastic and can smooth, sand or polish with it. Great addition to his tool collection.

              Great for crafters and hobbyists
I have been wanting a cordless rotary tool with flex shaft for both my gun projects and my wife’s crafting projects. We decided on the Ryobi rotary tool with the foot pedal speed control. What my wife found really handy is the foot speed control because it is like her sewing machine foot control. When she works on different projects she doesn’t know the speed she needs on the set speed control, on the base unit. I really like the ability to have hand wand to get into tight areas where the larger rotary tools can’t go. It’s powerful enough for our different projects and comes with a nice sampling of bits. We also like the feather of rubber on the base bracket because it doesn’t transfer the vibration on to the working surface, plus you can hang it up on a wall so it’s out of the way. We love it.

              So useful around the house!
I have other rotary tool sets but none are cordless. I have, at times have used my cordless drill fitted with detail bits but it's not the same. The Ryobi cordless rotary perfectly fits where my other options fall short. I use the rotary tool for all kinds of home projects such as my recent doorbell camera, to round out the wire hole a little larger without damaging the wires. I selected the Ryobi cordless for the portability but also for the 36 inch long cable-driven handheld tool which allows for more control for precision. The bonus of this Ryobi tool is the tool-less collet and the foot pedal. I didn't think much of the tool-less collet until I used the Ryobi where I had to change to multiple cutters. The tool-less collet definitely made the chore of changing bits a whole lot faster. The Ryobi does include a wrench style collet. The foot pedal came in handy for tasks where I needed a 3rd hand. I plug-in the included foot pedal, set the Ryobi controller to the foot pedal position. The Ryobi will start/stop upon depressing the pedal. This leaves both hands free to work with. The foot pedal does have a safety interlock to prevent accidental operation. Also, the foot pedal runs the rotary at full speed only. Another great feature is the built-in hanger that is great for positioning the drive near the work and rotary tool rest for parking the tool on the drive base. The brushless motor has equaled the power of my direct drive corded rotary tool and the 2 Ah battery has provided more than enough power for my tasks. Ryobi really thought this tool out. I can't think of a single thing I would change or add. The included bits in a storage case really complete this set, containing the most common sanding, cutting, polishing bits a homeowner would need.

              All-in-One(der)
This is a really nice kit. There is a case for all of the bits, and the quick-change feature is a god send. I've had wireless rotary tools before, but this one (while tethered) is a power house. It's a lot lighter than a tool with the battery inside, though not quite as freeing as such a tool. However, there is enough cable that you can set the main body near your work and easily get to work. And that's what we're talking about here. There is SOOOOOO much more power in this unit that a battery-bodied rotary drill. Gone is the frustration of lack-of-power. With this kit, you can do almost anything. My first simple task was to use a drum sander head to route out a door latch opening that was preventing a door latch from filling the latch hasp. I didn't have to remove anything from the door frame- I simply brought my kit with me and routed away. Thanks to the 18v power of this unit, I was done in like a minute, and the door latch now works and holds the door in place closed. I look forward to more work with this wonderful kit. Kudos to Ryobi for bringing this into the 18v fold. Oh, and the foot pedal control is optional, not required. That was key as I need to bring this into the field with me on some jobs, while for others I can take the object requiring modification back to my workshop

              Fun detail tool
Having a battery-operated version of a rotary tool is handy since you are not tied to the length of the cord with an AC unit. This will use common rotary tools available everywhere. It comes with a bunch of accessories in a nice plastic case. It has the capability of hanging the power unit with a hook or it can be hung on a wall, as well as just sitting on the bench. It comes with a foot switch to start and stop the unit without the need of going to the drive head. It is variable speed. The wand is comfortable in your hand. The kit includes a 2 Amp Hour battery and charger. The battery should last a long time between charges, and other Ryobi 18V One+ batteries can be used. I would recommend that Ryobi consider offering this as a "tool only" option for people that already have Ryobi batteries and chargers. I look forward to many hours of use of this product.

A must have for precession work
A must have tool for any tool collection, especially for those needing to do more precision work. The unit operates with a simple on/off switch with 6 selectable speeds. The "lowest" setting is for the foot pedal control, (which can be added later via a port in the front) but since this kit does not come with the foot pedal, I cannot tell you how the unit works with a foot pedal. Selecting the foot pedal option without a foot pedal inserted spins the unit at its slowest speed out of the six options. The Brushless 18v motor definitely pumps out more power and run time than your smaller battery/hand held units. Though there is a bit of sacrifice in maneuverability for power as the main cable does have a decent amount of weight and resistance to it which makes it somewhat difficult to maneuver like a fully handheld unit. This is the tool only version, so the battery was not included, however the tool took one of my 18v Ryobi batteries without issues. Included you will also find a huge selection of starter bits which should get you through all kinds of projects. The Quick connect system is great allowing easy and frustration free swaps of bits, no tools are needed to switch between bits. The rotation lock is located on the handheld unit. I mainly use the the sanding and grinding wheels to work on rust removal/restoration projects on smaller objects such as bird houses and have had no issues. The cutting wheel I've been using to cut through old pvc pipes to alter piping and it cuts through pvc like butter. The rubber on the feet of the unit do a good job at preventing vibrations and preventing the unit from sliding around while in use. The "feet" are pressure mounted, so they just pull right off if you want to go with the permanent mounting. For permanent mounting there are two slots on the bottom of unit if you would like to wall mount it. You can also choose on which side of the unit the handheld unit rests on as the clip that holds it in place just slides into the side of your choice. Even though it feels like the unit would tip over easily with the weight of the cable and handheld unit. I've had no issues when storing it. Overall very pleased with the tool as it performs better than I expected.

              Versatile Rotary Tool
With sufficient power for all tasks undertaken and consistent RPM under sustained material pressure - watch the video - this kit is great. The controls have positive stops at each of the RPM steps. Increasing the tool speed can remove a lot more material but the material might also get scorched so it's a question of finding the RPM sweet spot. The manual has a handy table of recommendations for users. There is some variability in the quality of the components; the smaller quarter inch sanding band was a loose fit on the rubber wheel and easily slipped and stalled. The drill bit shaft got stuck in the chuck. The metal cutting discs performed very well and did not appear to wear at the same rate as some others I have used. I did find the supplied wrench a bit small and fiddly to use. Switching to a regular sized wrench was an improvement and the thicker head helped to set the shaft gap easily. All the cutting tools create a very fine dust from the material and I made sure to wear a mask and thoroughly vacuum the dust away.

              Nice rotary tool
This rotary tool has a long flex shaft so you have flexibility when working. You can mount this on a wall out of the way. The quick change chuck is nice and easy to change out the bits easier with no tools. There is a jack to hook up a foot pedal so you can change speed without stopping your work. The two things I would add is a storage area for different bits and make it hybrid with the 120v/18v power supply.
