This is an update to my previous review. I have broken in the engine, changed the oil twice, and run the unit 23 hours. Currently running two battery chargers, 2 floodlights, 4 USB chargers, 2 fans. Load is 10% with all that. Ran a large shrub trimmer (6.5 amps) and a shopvac with no issues. After 9 uses, still starts on first pull. 1 gallon gas tank, getting 12 to 14 hours per fill - not putting a big load on it but still, this is sipping gas! Nice and quiet, you can have a normal conversation right next to it. And it's got a total run hours meter built in. BTW, Bluetooth rocks! See photos.

I have been researching alot to see how long this gen set will last but can't find anyone with more hours than myself. I run this gen set 24 hrs a day give or take a few hours. Change the oil every 100 hrs. Still on original spark plug. Never had a problem awesome product

I've been researching my replacement generator for well over a year. We have a cabin that's off grid and was actually the shooting location of my alternative energy web show. I've got two other generators, a very loud 2.2 kw and one of those 2 cycle things and power everything at night with the deep cycle battery bank. We have 3 chargers that charge the bank. This Ryobi handles them at less than 10% of it's capacity. Running the battery bank at night may change with the Ryobi - going to try an overnight run with it this weekend. Let me tell you this. With a 10% load (what I typically run overnight), the generator says "13.22" hours left on the tank of gas. Outstanding! I made the decision to get this Ryobi, which came down to a choice between 3 brands. After reading about recalls, starting issues and quality related problems, the Ryobi seemed to be the best choice for two reasons: 1. Ryobi is owned by a large corporation that owns a LOT of other quality brands. 2. Ryobi is known for tool quality. As of right now, I'm about half way through the break in cycle and have changed the oil once. Very little leftover metal slag in the crankcase, just a few small bits. The Bluetooth feature takes a minute to figure out how to pair correctly. I LOVE that feature - having the total run hours, fuel, engine controls for remote action is great. The pull out luggage handle is to die for. So easy to move along like a suitcase. The hand screw access panel for the oil and air filter is a great design feature. The sound levels are better than I had expected - it's quieter that I had thought it would be, even at full throttle. Thus far, I've loaded it with LED lights, 3 deep cycle battery chargers and a shrub trimmer. Handled everything great, less than 20% capacity used. The engine comes up off of idle, powers on the trimmer motor and then drops right back down to low speed. This is a 3.8 amp trimmer. And I've saved the best for last. Starts on the FIRST pull every time.

  • Excellent inverter Generator

Starts first time everytime - it is what it says, 1800 - 2300 you need to understand what that means, RUNNING (constant) - PEAK (starting draw) is abetter way to put that.... We really appreciate this smaller generator compared to our Storm Responder 6250-8500., Which is a beast weight wise and noise wise, now back to the Ryobi (pronounced Ree-oh-bee) or so we are corrected by those who know better when they stop to see our generator in action.....the little green gen runs smoothly and quietly, and even quieter if need be when the eco mode is switched on, just remember if the gen needs a boost it will cycle out of eco mode to do that, a great tip for all generators, a simple deflection of sound waves is a Game changer.. take all airflow into account before placing a simple deflection barrier around the generators, and the noise level is depleted immensly, a simple piece of cardboard is all that is needed to change the decible levels, to a hard board weighted bottom barrier, whatever the conditions require.. we do suggest from the get go,or first tank of fuel, get the extender and premix before putting in the tank...check the oil and familiarize yourself with the build of the generator, easiest thing to do is take pics from all angles of the interior and exterior then review them, you can enlarge the pics to see details you may not notice by just viewing regularly...as for mobility? It works well, the handle works and it does not leak fuel if sealed properly...i have not found a propane conversion for it as the 2200 has, so we pretty much dig it,it sits in our van, securely tied down of course for safety, and we run it at the least once a month for 15 mins, I do recommend this generator if the power requirements meet your needs, and i recommend understanding the safety requirements for fuel based generators BEFORE you purchase one...

I brought it home, put fresh gas with fuel stabilizer in it and it started up fine. I ran it for 15 minutes or so. A month later I went to test it again, same drill with the gas, it wouldn't start. The Ryobi help line said to take it in to the repair shop which said it has a bad carburetor which isn't covered by the warranty, and it will cost me $150 to get it repaired. Repair shop says Ryobi generators don't like ethanol, that I should use ethanol free gas or fuel stabilizer - which I did. I've written to Ryobi and will update this review if I get something approximating a positive response - otherwise - buy the Honda. Other than that, only comment is the little screw thing to remove the cover to access the oil fill is a bit clunky and poorly thought out.

going on my 2nd year with this generator and it has been an excellent Generator. We use it when we go camping instead of using my generator on my toy-hauler to run the coffee maker in the morning, charge our phones charges house batteries on trailer. at night instead of running the main gen. I run this Ryobi to keep my batteries charged, the kids watch tv when it bed time and I run our outside lights. it's so quiet that I just leave it on overnight running the heater etc. has not been a problem at all. it normally runs out of fuel about 3am - 4am . 1.2 Gallons runs a long time. sorry about the long review but its worth the details. The hour meter is great so I know when to service it. The load meter is great so I now how hard it's working and The Fuel Meter on the Display as well as the APP on your phone Ryobi hit it out of the park on this one . Did I mention the Convenient carry handles and The Luggage style handle with using the wheels wow ! I like this generator Alot

Second time I went to use it the pull cable locked up when extended. There was a storm coming so I returned it. There were no more of these, so I bought what was left a 6500 watt Ryobi. Only started this one once, hopefully it doesn’t have the same problem.

  • String didn’t recoil
  • September 13, 2019

My one star might be biased but I have to rated as such. I purchased this because of the Bluetooth capability and the supposedly little sound it makes, I was exited. Took it out of the box, filled it with gasoline, and at the site put the included oil. I pulled, nothing. Pulled a second time and the string would not whine. I immediately took it back to HD, returned it, and purchased the 4000 Ryobi generator, $100 cheaper!!!!!! It started on the first pull. Also, I was able to talk to my helper without yelling. Will make a review on the one I have after using it a couple times.
