This well-designed and substantial plastic Ryobi Wood Door Trimmer adjusts for doors from 1 1/4" thick to 1 3/4" thick. The adjustment is very precise and is accomplished by jiggling the device handle left-to-right, a notch at a time. The shank that fits a drill is 3/8" diameter. Each pass of the trimmer takes off about 1/32" wood. The device is roughly 3" x 4" overall and has a 3 1/4" comfortable handle.

Sticking doors are one of the tasks that many of us ignore because of the perception of difficulty of fixing the issue. The Ryobi door trimmer is an excellent answer to this problem. I was able to correct the issues with two doors within fifteen minutes including the sanding of the roughness left after use of this trimmer. The trimmer will not go all the way to the floor while the door is hanging. If the door sticks at the bottom you may need to remove the door from the hinges.

I had a few new doors installed in the winter of 2019-2020. Contractor didn't trimmed them and back then they seemed to open/close without any issues event after 2 paint coats. But when summer of 2020 came in humidity swelled them to the point that I couldn't close them. Researching for a solution I realized that palm sender will not trim doors quickly and electric planer may cut too much. I needed something in between, but couldn't find it. Well I guess during dry winter month this gadget is not flying off the shelves so you can actually spot it. I like the trimmer as it has a screw blade which limits the amount of trim depth so you will not over trim it. It also has a special groove for cuttings to slide out under the tool so it cuts evenly. Handle has a good grip. You still need to remove the door if you need to trim bottom end. Side wall slides to it can trim thinner doors. Side walls ensure that you trimmed at the
right angle. You can use corded or cordless drill with a chuck to drive it. Arrow on bearing cap shows direction of rotation.

Assembly consisted of removing the trimmer from the plastic packaging and attaching it to the end of a drill. My husband used this to trim a white 6 panel wood door that did not close at the top. Hold the drill with your right hand to turn the the drill on and off and hold the ryobi wood door trimmer with your left hand to move it along the top of the door as the trimmer removes the wood from the door. Easy to use. Highly recommend. Did the job!

Ryobi Door Trimmer is great little tool. We live on expansive adobe and hillside. Depending upon the time of year, our doors jam due to the shifting land. Over the years I have removed the doors to plane or file the door's edges.
I've tried the trimer two times and it was easy. I was impressed that it trimmed the plywood doors in the garage. I was expecting the layers to splintered.
I will still need to remove some doors for access but the rest is a breeze.
Perhaps in the future Ryobi can come up with an adjustable width for non-standard doors.

Where has this product been. Compared to a plane or saw this takes the reward. I have had a door that was pre-hung and I installed it but it has been sticking ever since I installed it because I didn't get it true. I have been accumulating Ryobi cordless tools for sometime. This is another of their great inventions. One great feature is that you can't take too much off at a time 1/32 in. You make a pass and then as many as you need without taking too much off at a time. The edge that I was trimming had been painted and the first couple passes it didn't like the paint but after the paint was removed it went to work. Any drill with a 3/8 inch chuck will work with it. I tried both speeds on my Ryobi drill and both worked well. I liked the higher speed however because it gave a smoother cut.

I like Ryobi's door lockset installation kit. And I LOVE Ryobi's door hinge router mortising kit - it's affordable, well thought out and very easy to use. But this seems like a product that's an answer to a question no one asked. This essentially puts a small drill-powered spiral cutting head jointer/planer in your hands and it can be a hard thing to control as you have to keep the tool moving. It doesn't 'plane' the edge of a door down as much as it chews it up. This gobbles up wood, a 1/32nd pass at a time but it's not all that cleanly done and you WILL need to dress things up with sandpaper. If you need to shave down a door that's sticking a little bit there are better tools for the job - I would honestly pass this tool up and use a small hand block plane or just an electric sander. I wanted to like this better mousetrap, but I don't. I give it 4 stars for quality because it's well made, but 3 overall because I don't think it's the best execution.

Let me make this simple, the RYOBI Wood Door Trimmer saves you from complete frustration. You can take your time and ensure your door is cut square to fit but none of that matters if your door frame has settled with the house and is no longer perfectly square. Putting your door up and then having to take it down again when you know you did everything right can really leave you irritated. This tool is definitely the perfect solution for frustrating sticking doors or doors that don’t quite fit. It allowed me to hang my door and be able to shave off the excess material in the area needed without cutting the whole door. Or better yet having to take the door back down to make the cut. I saved time and most of all my sanity using this tool. It does not take off too much per pass allowing you to achieve the perfect fit without creating unwanted gaps that might be achieved if you take the door down and use a circular saw. Glad this tool is in my toolbox.

Ryobi wood door trimmer as stated is made for trimming the sides of any wood door with widths ranging from 1-3/8 in to 1-3/4 in. Made from sturdy plastic and a bit for wood cutting only can shave 1/32 in. on every pass. Works with any regular drill and the trimmer has a handle for steady movement. I think the trimmer can be use on any smaller width wood but you need to more precise at the time of use. With smooth moving this attachment is accurate, lightweight and easy to use. Comes with clear and easy to follow instructions and diagrams.

My husband and I are installing new doors and needed to shave one of them. After looking at many tools that can shave wooden doors we decided to order this one. It is a bit that connects to any drill it seems since my husband has a different name brand drill. It is user friendly and does the job. I recommend sanding the part you shaved so you have a nice clean finish. Great tool to have in the tool box!
