Perfect! I am glad I resisted the urge to by a smaller (8x8 inch) model. The smaller one has a wooden handle, which I was afraid would become loose over time. This model has a solid steel rod (not detachable) that is welded to the base, so it will never become loose. The rubbery hand grip is great, making it easy to hold onto the tamper, and it also helps cushion you from vibrations. The added size and weight help the tamping (packing) work go more quickly, and the larger surface area makes it easier to smooth out any bumps in the ground. For the small difference in cost between the 8-inch and this 10-inch model, unless you need to tamp in tight areas, I strongly suggest you go with this one.

  • Great quality tool - No more broken handles!

This tool is very well made. The base is welded to a set of 4 gussets which in turn are welded to the handle. I visually inspected all the welds and they look pretty sturdy. Like many others, I have broken the handles on tampers before. After using this tool extensively for a couple of days, I really doubt that I will be able to break this handle. That being said, if you are looking for a tool that you can change the handle on in the future, this isn’t the tool for you. You will not be able to replace the handle.

Pros Durable, Easy to Clean, Great Quality, Strong

Building an outdoor kitchen and needed to compact base material. Not a large area, so a manual tamper would be fine. Used the Razor-back to compact road base and sand for bricks and stone pation/walk. Great product. Heavy enough to pack down road base.

I'm 5'2" and need the exercise as does my 5'6" 14 year old son. While tedious this tapper does a good job - not as good as a machine but if your project is small or your compaction doesn't need to be phenomenal, this product works great.

It's a tamper, what could go wrong? It's 10 in long on each side, so, no false advertising there. It hasn't broken yet, so that's a good thing. Is it any better than any other tamper on the market? I'm sure it's not significantly worse. I have always been satisfied with the quality of Razorback products, and I like composite handles. Therefore, this tamper had my name all over it.

10"x10" is a good size. Thick plate. All metal construction gives it good weight and gives it a nice solid impact. Glad I did not go with the 8"x8"

This tamper works really well. There is no wood to flex/splinter/break. The rubberized/textured grip at the top provides a no-slip hold on the handle. It has a good weight to it, which assists in the "tamping". This tamper made light work of my driveway and gardening projects. I would buy it again without hesitation.

  • It Tamps!

Really does the job nicely. I used wooden handle tampers in the past and the handles always end up getting loose and falling out. This is a fine integral unit that really holds together well and you can tamp to your hearts content. Not too heavy nor too light.
