  • Ready Seal Stain is Goof Proof

This is a great product!. I purchased Ready Seal Natural Cedar for my entire stockade fence, which is approximately 1/4 of an acre on my property I have used other stains on my old stockade fence, which I replaced last year and by far Ready Seal is the best on the market! It's easy to use and an amateur like myself can be a pro at using this product. The color is beautiful and allows the natural wood tones and grains and to come through the stain. I used a brush to seal my fence even though I had many individuals telling me to use a sprayer, but on my first coat of stain I wanted to make sure I got each picket coated well and didn't miss any portion of the fence. I think using a brush, even though it's time consuming allows more coverage and allows each gallon to go further then spraying - just my opinion. Ready Seal is a little more expensive then other brands, but the product is definitely well worth the cost! Excellent product and Highly Recommend it!!!!!

Pros Dries Quickly, Easy Instructions, Easy to Apply, Easy to Clean, Easy to Use, Even Application, Good Coverage, Good Protection, Looks Great, Looks High End, Modern, High Quality of Material, Very Adhesive

Labor Day project was to stain a medium, covered porch deck in my back yard. I spend the last two weekends prepping it with cleaning. Since I had a small deck off a side door where the dogs go in and out, I wanted to practice on that deck before doing the "real thing." Super nice associate at Home Depot recommended a Behr product.....I used it and had to take the product back....it pretty much ruined my deck. Runs, uneven color....you name it The dogs don't mind, but I will have to figure out to get that stuff off somehow. So after this disaster, I did lot's of research to find the "perfect" stain. I have used Supedeck before, that works well, but could not find it here locally. Ordered Armstrong Clark samples, those were ok, Messmer UV Plus ok too, but Fed Ex messed up my order and had to ship it back. So Labor Day weekend was almost here and no stain. More research and found Ready Seal....one word: WOW!!! Used Natural Cedar stain color and even though I have no idea how long it will last on my deck, application was just perfect. So easy to put on, brush, spray...do whatever, just get it on and it will look great once it soaks in. I started my deck at 6 am in the morning when the outside temp here in TX was about 75.....I finished about 2:30pm in the mid 90s...full sun on part of the deck....it did not matter on how the stain went on. I did have to use a little more gallons than I had planned, but the wood in those temps is just super thirsty....plus Home Depot had this stain in stock all the time. Was easy to get a couple extra gallons. Touch ups with this stain will be SUPER EASY!!!!!

  • Best Stain Ever!!

I have used Ready Seal in the past, It is the most forgiving stain EVER,,,,if you spill, drip run etc, it spreads out evenly and blends in,,,,,,,,,and the very BEST part is,,,,,,,,you do not have to strip when you apply the next time, just wash your deck and go for it,,,,,,,,, We applied three years ago, the deck rails are still holding, but our deck is in full sun, and gets alot of traffic, so the floor needs done every year, but like I said before, wash your deck and reapply, we only put one coat on the deck.

Ready Seal was very forgiving. I stained my cedar deck with benches being stained first. I got a little bit a dripping but once the deck was sealed no problems what so ever. I brushed the stain in just to make sure I got in every nook and cranny and did not have a single issue. I have had it stained now for three weeks and have had many compliments on how beautiful it looks!!

  • Great product! Never chip or peel!

Great product! Oil stain penetrates and soaks into wood for an even application. Becomes part of the wood, will never peel! Wood that has had a little time to age will remained stained for 3+yrs. Wood will age gracefully as it would naturally (will not have a partially stained/flakey look). Can always touch up high traffic areas or spots water pools. Great product! Shocked it isn't more mainstream!

Pros Even Application, High Quality of Material, Easy to Apply, Easy Instructions, Easy to Use, Good Protection, thin consistency Cons splatter risk

I purchased the 5 gallon pail to do my pressure treated 20 something year old deck. I'm 60 years old. I studied the can just a bit, lifted the plastic ring on both sides with my FINGERS, and pulled the "plug" straight up. There popped up a lovely pour spout! What an ingenious idea, so easy to use, and just as easy to close back up to protect any stain which may remain. Loved it and what a great beginning! BTW, I'm a woman. I did pressure wash my deck and let it dry out for a few days before using the product. My deck looks awesome and I have to agree the product is goof proof. The wood soaked up the stain like a thirsty person in the desert. I also purchased the D W Smith 2 gallon sprayer. I sprayed the stain on the horizontal boards and then used a brush to even out any stain pools. It worked great! The color I used was natural cedar. However, I noticed later that the darker colors have more UV protection and my deck gets full sun. Oh well, perhaps another year. Recommend the product highly and, if you are doing a deck, buy the 5 gallon bucket. Sorry I don't have a picture; I just don't know how to do that.

  • Easy to apply, Minimal smell, Rich color
  • December 04, 2016

The Ready Seal Natural Cedar Stain & Sealer was applied to the Oceanview All Cedar Playset, using disposable foam brushes, Wooser china brustle brushes, and a Linzer flat stain block brush; regardless of which brush used, the stain was easy to apply. For this playset, I used 1 gallon can and a quarter of another 1 gallon can to cover all exposed areas, even underneath the playset. Some areas were drier than others and absorbed the stain quite quickly; for those areas I just kept adding stain until the wood wouldn't absorb anymore. The smell from the stain is quite minimal - much like that of interior paint. When you first apply the stain, it is darker than the color on the can; however, it does lighten to the color on the can. Per the instructions, the stain is rain ready in minutes; after 6 hours, it had rained quite heavily and the stain doesn't appear to have been washed away. I didn't find any temperature guidelines on when to apply the stain; I didn't have any problem applying the coats of stain in temperatures of 55 - 60 degree weather. The cedar color really enhances the wood grain and leaves a nice satin or eggshell finish. The leftover stain was also used on a red oak top; like the playset, the wood grain is enhanced - I just forgot to remove the sticker from the board and that's why there's a lighter square on the board. I did manage to get some stain on the hammock; I used Goo Off to remove the stain and then washed the hammock with Dawn. For section of my hands that managed to get stain, I used Dawn on my hands. As for the brushes (except for the disposable foam brushes), they were cleaned with brush cleaner. If you happen to have the sealer shipped to your home, there is a thick plastic ring around the top that needs to be removed before the can is usable; I cut into the plastic ring using a knife part of my Leatherman and popped out the rest with a flat head screwdriver. The can lid can then be opened with a metal paint lid opener or whatever tool deemed necessary. I didn't see the thick plastic ring when I purchased an additional can at the store.

This stain was really easy to apply. I applied it on a new porch using a roller and brush. It covered the wood really good using the roller. The color was exactly what I wanted and lighten as it dried. It dried fast so I was able to apply the second coat as recommended. I finished just in time because later in the week--it rained! The rain "beaded" as it stayed on the rails of the porch. I'm really happy with my new porch! Now I just have to work on the landscape!

  • Best Stain You Can Buy
  • July 28, 2015
  • Recommended Product

My buddy was researching stain for 4 days because he was fixing up his fence and wanted the best. He ended up buying Ready Seal. I helped him apply it and was so happy with the color, how well it soaked in and how even it spread, I bought some for my rental property AND my home's new fence. This stuff is fool proof and looks fantastic. Almost all other stain is just a low opacity paint that doesn't soak all the way in and will not go on even if you overlap. I'm super excited that I can now buy this at Home Depot and get FREE shipping because it was super expensive when I bought it straight from Ready Seal.
