Don't waste your money...buy another brand
1 yr old Rheem WH. Not working for over a week while multiple parts shipped and visits from Rheem technicians. The warranty is garbage on these units. Yes they have a warranty but be prepared to be without hot water for one to two weeks while they fuss around trying to fix it. I am on week one and now waiting for more parts to arrive so someone can install them. They also allow someone else to repair the heater and they will pay up to $150 per repair. No more Rheem for me. BEWARE!

    Super Happy with This Heater
    Install was a breeze. Fired right up, no leaks. Heated the entire tank in about 15 minutes. I've had endless hot water ever sense. love the diagnostic light on the front which allows you to know what's going on with the unit. what else can I say? it's energy efficient, has tons of hot water (even though it's only 38 gallons), and has a 12 year warranty! win win all around.

        Something to Consider Before Purchasing
        After installing I was getting intermittent backdraft coming down the chimney. The power damper that opens and closes when the heater operates allowed the chimney pipe to cool completely and occasionally allow backdraft when the heater was idle. If there was a backdraft when the heater fired the chimney would not draw and it would dump the exhaust in the basement. Returned this unit for a standard water heater with a continuous pilot and have not had a problem with backdraft since.

          Have had to replace it twice
          We've had this hot water heater for 3 years and have already had to replace it completely once due to a leak, and a second time the water heater controller died. The first time it was done at no cost, (their certified plumber tried to get more $). The second time it was a limited warranty so we had to pay $300 for the diagnostic and repair while they shipped the part out. The headache this has caused will prevent us from ever buying a Rheem again when this inevitably fails before 10 years.

            Disappointed with Product and Rheem Support
            Around after 2 years, the Water Heater stopped working and on diagnosis, it turned out that the Flammable Vapor FV Sensor is bad. It's been over 1 month and no response from Rheem. My Rheem Support Case # 3568532.

                I paid extra for this water heater for the wifi control but it disconnects after about two weeks over and over again. Customer support says its a known issue but they never come out with a update or replacement part. It has issues with mesh wifi Eero

                  As easy to install as any other water heater. It does need to plug into a regular outlet to work - this controls the active damper and electronic ignition. Electronic ignition is great - no complicated pilot lighting/startup. May not be a good choice if you have a lot of power outages because of the dependence on 110 power. Would have been nice to have digital temp control on such an expensive unit, but temp control is easy and consistent.

                    We bought this water heater seven months ago and have not had any problems with it. I waited this long to post a review because the official installer tried to talk me out of buying it by saying that the sensor would trip within six months. It has not.

                          Terrible Water Heater, Worse Customer Service
                          Rheem sent out a replacement gas valve. That wasn't it. They were just guessing. They finally decided to replace the entire unit. They only have 1 tech in the area and they can't come out for 3 weeks! No solution. Terrible. Getting a refund is a nightmare

                                    A friend and I installed this ourselves about a month ago. So far it's worked flawlessly. The recovery time on this thing is remarkably fast. Granted, there are only two of us in the house, but one of us likes her long, hot showers. I highly recommend using flexible lines if you don't already have them. It made everything much easier. If you're draining the old heater into a floor drain, be sure the floor drain works before you start.... ;)

                                          We bought our unit in Oct 2017. Since then, the contol unit went out and was repaired under the three yr warranty which included parts and labor. Now prior to the unit being four yrs old the tank is leaking. It will be interesting to see how Rheem addresses the issue this time. Beware
