This Rheem hybrid water heater is replacing my ten year old GE Geospring hybrid, which died. I bought the Rheem from Home Depot because they had the best price. Entergy has a $750 rebate incentive which makes it about the same price as a standard electric water heater. Local stores did not stock the unit, but it was shipped to the store free in less than a week. It arrived in good condition. I installed the heater inside the pantry of my home in about an hour. I turned it on and it booted up with no problems. I switched it to heat pump only mode and it ran fine.... for about two minutes. That's when I got error code A108: Condensate blocked, unclog line. It obviously had not run long enough for the condensate to begin running, much less be clogged. I cleared the error. It came back two minutes later. I turned the breaker off to see if it would reset. Same scenario when I tried again. After calling the 800 number on the unit, the Rheem rep informed me that some of the units have faulty sensors that need to be replaced. He got my information and said a replacement would be to me in 2-4 days. Two minutes after the call ended, I had an email with a tracking number for the package and instructions for how to disable the bad sensor while waiting for the replacement. It took about 2 minutes to open the display and unplug the sensor from the board. The unit runs perfectly after that. The new rope sensor arrived two days later via Fed Ex. I have not installed it yet, but it seems to be a simple fix and I would not let it deter me from buying the unit. The benefits far outweigh the hassle. The first thing I noticed was how quiet the fans are. My old GE sounded like a jet engine every time it was on. The Rheem is whisper quiet! So much nicer since it is inside my home. I would recommend this water heater to anyone who wants to save on their electric costs.

This product is not built for colder climate! I have purchase this in hope of getting more hot water, cause my old electric water heater was not heating the water fast enough. Got this tank in Dec 2019, since than, I have been getting error alert related to "Can't keep up with demand" on high demand mode???????? Compressor wire might be faulty? And when you call customer support they are clueless? Ask them to send a technical support out, which I am support to get a call from a local Rheem support contractor. But did not get any call for a week. Call customer support again, and they told me the ticket was opened and than cancelled right after? I have been setting this tank to electric mode, which cause more energy usage. Hey but you know what, you don't have a choice! since in Auto saving or even high demand mode, the tank is not capable of keeping up the hot water you set! I spend over $3000 and hire a licensed local contractor for installation, not I am not sure what to do!

So far so good and with the rebate from my power company ($750 pre-2020 from Entergy Mississippi) I would have to call it great! The only reason I can't yet give it 5 stars is I want to see the performance in the spring / summer season. I suspect great results because of several reasons given below. Be aware and do insulate the the condensation line from it! Even in a rather warm Mississippi winter, the system sucks heat from my attic and discharges cool, dehumidified air and will produce moisture forming on the condensation line. An excellent concept and can't wait to see how much this drops the temp there in the really warm months. I really wish this was down in my unconditioned garage as I know it would cool it down, but looking forward to the effects in the attic that should help even more (this thing is SUPER energy efficient) with dropping the power bill. Rheem and Home Depot partnered up well for all of us on this one and you'll definitely love it!

Arrived ahead of time with a friendly driver that brought it into the garage. If you'll follow the instructions (and some common sense) you'll find the installation simple and fast. As for performance - This product is very efficient (resulting in much lower Electricity bill). After two months of use, I estimate that the cost will be less than 20% of my previous water heater. One thing to consider - It does create a bit of noise. You should consider the noise factor when choosing the location.

This is an awesome hot water heater... Hands down. I should have purchased it earlier. I had may old electric hot water heater since I moves in my home 16 years ago. Funny thing, it never gave me any trouble through the years, and I replaced it even though it did not fail - it was still working. I heard about the steller performance, future savings, wi-fi feature to fully control your system, and of course the sleek & stylish look that adds to my garage. Note: The wi-fi set-up was easy to program. Also, the vacation mode is just awesome. Why should the water heater continually heat my water and make me spend money unnecessarily when I am not home. It was a great investment and I am truly a satisfied customer. I have already told my family, friends, and neighbors about this awesome product.

Water heater was straightforward to install, only difference from a standard electric model is that it requires a condensate line so be sure to account for that. Recovery time seems to be fairly quick on energy saver mode, no plans to change to another mode. Happy with purchase.

This water heater is the better water heater I've ever owned. It heats up quickly and has plenty of capacity for our needs (we have 2.5 bath). It is using roughly a quarter of the energy of the previous electric only water heater that it replaced. The app is very easy to use. We couldn't be happier.

I would highly recommend this product to be used in your attic because it produce cold air and reduce the heat within the attic to save even more money. I also receive $400 back from the government through Energy Louisiana Star Rebate Program (Energy Solution residential). I purchase this unit $1,286.40w/tax. Had it install by B&D Plumbing $698.00 (max 5 hrs job × $125.00hr). Install date December 6th 2019. First month usage 38.4 kWH x 0.023146 = 0.89c; +/- 0.89c x 12 months = +/- $10.68 year! Note my old 40 gallon electric water heater was costing $400 per year, this new unit estimated at $110 per year. Do the math! I am smiling!! :)

I am not sure the year of make for this model - but at first glance it looks impressive. It seemed to be good value and high Efficiency was a motivating factor in purchasing. Installation was fairly straight forward. It looks good installed but am a bit disappointed with its performance. The heater is providing hot water to two bath rooms only (not the entire house) - so demand is not too much. We have a gas waterless tank providing hot water to the rest of the house. The pressure at which it delivers hot water is mediocre .The temperature of the water at the shower head was way lower than the gas heater water. Both are set to 120 degrees. We installed this heater to decrease the time the hot water reached the showers - (however, there is no improvement). This heater takes a few minutes to get hot water to the showers - that is most disappointing - since the distance to carry the hot water is shorter than the connection we had previously. Finally, the Econet app is typical. The system cost a bit to install - too bulky and troublesome to return. I am not a fan at this moment - need to check water and electricity bill to see if it is really efficient. **it would be nice to have a high efficiency booster pump within the system to speed the flow of hot water through the pipes. **** humidity reduction is a positive note.

Installed easily, easy to set up wifi. Water temp was able to be set via my cell phone after wifi setup. Can't advise about energy savings as it's only been working about a week. Be advised, this does need a method of disposing of condensation from the heat pump. Personal note...I used a Sharpie to write the installation date on the outer case so I remember when it was installed :)

It seems to be working well, but very disappointed when I saw a note in User Manual that said: (NOTICE: Energy Saver mode is not recommended for water systems utilizing recirculation.) Since I have hot water recirculation, that means I have to use this water heater in a less efficient mode. I am now using "Demand Mode". I have not received an electric bill yet, so do not know if this water heater is going to save me money or not. The Econet seems to work okay. I can change modes and see KWhr being used each day and week. I am disappointed with the app though because it does not tell me when compressor is running and what speed it is running. It also doesn't tell me when electric heat is on or off. It seems this information could be easily added to the app capabilities. I plan to update this review when I get information from electric bill.

Has been installed for one month. Excellent product so far. Works great. Touchscreen very user friendly. Can barely hear it when running and close by. Heats water quickly. Purchased it on sale and $500 rebate from my elec. comp. made it even nicer. Only negative I have is the app needs to be improved. Can basically only see/adjust water temp and heating mode. Would be nice if all the info/measurements on the various screens (which is alot of useful stuff) was also viewed on the app. My thoughts though.

Please read to the end; my 5-star rating is not without some challenges. We purchased this to replace out 80-gallon electric which had fried it’s thermostat. The projected ship day was 12 days away which was fine; we were heading to Texas from Missouri and would be gone for 10 of the 12 days. As we were in our first day of travel, the delivery company called me to set up delivery; he had the heater on his truck and wanted to deliver the water heater except that there was no one home to receive it. The heater was returned and delivery finally made when we returned. We had it installed on Nov 26, 2019 by a certified code plumber. Immediately the ‘condensate drain clogged’ alarm starting going off and shifting the water heater into ‘electric only’ mode (not good for saving money). I checked that the line was clear and the pan was dry; the alarms stopped for about 5 days but then came back for good. I contacted Rheem technical services on Monday, Dec 9, 2019. Chris, the technician, was very good, is sending me a new sensor rope and sent to me a technical bulletin to disarm the condensate drain sensor in the electrical panel. Otherwise, the unit is more than advertised! The wifi communications between the Rheem Econet phone app and the water heater is amazing. I can set modes, set temperature and monitor usage. You can even schedule days of vacation. I touch base with my water heater several times each day. We used approximately 7,660 kwhs with our old system and based on my first 3-weeks of usage, we will use something like 1,500 kwhs this year; perhaps more if we go ‘economy’ mode during the Summer months when the basement is warmed. I think our residential rate here is $.085 per so we look to save over $500 in the first year and will have the unit paid within 2 years with the rebate we are getting from our electric utility. The unit, once delivered and functioning correctly, has been a good investment and I would highly recommend this for an economical, hybrid heat pump water heater for a residential application.

I have this 80gal unit for 12 days. The average daily use is about ~20kWh, which is way higher than the ~4kWh that was promised in energy guide. It's just 2-3 showers every day. I wanted to return this unit.

Running for about a month now. Installation was easy. Easy to connect to home wifi. Works as advertised. Has a useful smartphone app. I bought this to replace an old 40 gallon after we installed a 90 gallon Jacuzzi tub. I like that I can use the phone app a few minutes before using the tub to turn up the temperature and to set it to full electric or high demand mode so I get a full tub a hot water. Then I can use the app to set it back to energy saving mode. I can even turn it off when away from home. I am sure this will pay back in energy savings in a few years.

I LOVE THIS WATER HEATER! I got a new HVAC in ‘16 that was supposed to lower my electric bill but did not. I got this water heater Fed ‘18 and it drastically lowered my bill. I got a $1,000 SMUD rebate and paid around $400 for install. It has to paid for itself multiple times over. My August SMUD this year was $88 and I keep my place very cool. That is cheap for Sacramento in the summer.

I have to say that the only fault that I can find with this unit is the claimed energy usage. Mine uses 2/3 less than the reported amount, but I have my unit set to Heat Pump only mode. The good news is that you should save more money than they conservatively claim. I hope this lasts as long as they claim. NOTE: my photo shows this unit in energy saver more - that is the mid-range energy savings point, change it to Heat Pump Only for proper operation/greater energy savings.

I don't have time to write reviews. I only mostly write them when a product REALLY disappoints. Or When I Really, Really pleased. I'm Pleased. I purchased this because my last electric element heater lasted just to the end of its 6 year warranty. This had a 10 warranty which help make my decision as I don't have the time or want to pay for an install. I also purchased the extended warranty. I've had it for 3 months and I'm very pleased with the savings. The old heater was a Reehm electric element unit from Home-depot. I was not happy with it failing early. This heater costs $600 more than a similar water heater. HOWEVER the local electric company is giving $400 rebate for this energy efficient heater. I'm seeing savings per of $30/month on average. At this rate I'll break even after 7 months from purchase. I was concerned about the time it would take to recover after being used. No issues, this seems to heat up faster than my electric element heater used to. I'm hoping that because there are no elements directly in the water that I wont see the lime buildup that the elements would cause. Time will tell. The WiFi control is nice but was difficult to connect to my router, I had to call Reehm customer service. The piping to the connections is not as simple as electric units. The water inlet and outlet are on the side of the unit so expect to run piping. Expect to need about 10' additional piping with several 90's. You will also need to dump the condensate water somewhere. It throws cold dry air into my basement which is a good thing. I still need my dehumidifier. I had the old heater wrapped with a layer of Fiberglass to help retain the heat. It helped as I could feel warm between the heater fiberglass interface. I moved the fiberglass to this heater and I don't feel anything close to the heat I felt on the electric element heater. I kept the fiberglass on this heater because I already have it. I don't think it would be needed. It appears to be insulated very well. I would definitely recommend this water heater. It was a little difficult to install because of the piping reroute. It heats water very quickly (which surprised me).

We bought the 50 gallon and have had it a week so far. There are only 2 of us using it and it’s hard to believe that we are only using less than 1KW a day to heat our water! The app is easy to use. Very nice energy efficient water heater. Installation was a chore, mainly because of the added weight and the water line connections being in a different location than the water heater it replaced. It is working fine though, and the app shows that we are averaging less than 1 KWh energy use per day! I have it set for heat pump only and there are only 2 people in our house, so I'm sure that helps too but that low of an energy use is still very impressive. Our electric Co-op gave us a $300 rebate for installing it instead of an ordinary electric water heater, so that helped to defray some of the higher cost of the unit. And I expect the lower electricity use to pay the rest of the difference in a couple of years or less. If this thing proves to be as reliable as it is energy efficient I will be delighted with this purchase.

We have had the Rheem 65 gallon Hybrid for about a month now. Zero issues. Works like a champ. Waiting to see the impact on our electric bill. Since we live in AZ, there is plenty of heat in the garage (where this is installed) for it to pull from first. Because we live in a hot climate where it makes real sense, I have been looking at hybrids for years. Finally did it and made the purchase when current 4 year old water heater started to leak. Make sure you measure your space and review the specs before you buy...its big, but not gigantic, in my opinion. Also because it's like a heat pump, it needs to drain the condensation, so there needs to be some kind of drain nearby to tap into or drain to. Also make sure your electric breaker will accommodate it. We had to switch out the existing breaker for the water heater with a higher one, but my husband did that in about 2 minutes. We used a Home Depot certified installation company and they sent a tech who was an expert at installing hybrids. Installation was smooth and efficient, though it did take several hours. We were very pleased with the installation and the tech who did it. This water heater is very solid and formidable looking compared to everyday wimpy water heaters. It is also very quiet (I believe noise was an issue with earlier generations of hybrid water heaters). Haven't set up the wifi yet, probably won't do it unless I feel like we need to later on. I know it may sound crazy to love a water heater, but I LOVE this water heater. Highly recommend for those wanting a hybrid.
