If you're installing laminate, or vinyl flooring (which is what I am doing) this is a must-have tool to make sure all the planks are locked in tight. I couldn't have done my bathroom floor without it... well, I could have but the pieces probably wouldn't have locked together correctly, and I probably would have chipped a few planks, and cussed a lot more :-)

Although it does help with vinyl plank installation, it breaks and chips apart very easily. My husband is an expert at installing flooring so it wasn't "operator difficulty". The material used to make this block is too brittle to use for its intended purpose...tapping against. He was really careful not to hit it too hard but just hard enough to lock the flooring pieces together. The tapping block still chipped off, especially at one end (see photo). I didn't research this tool before ordering it with the Lifeproof vinyl from Home Depot because I thought, since it was a recommended tool, it would work just fine. He did manage to finish the floor with part of the tapping block intact but it will have to be tossed out before we do another flooring project and I will read the reviews on an alternative before I order a different block.

First of all, it's CHEAP plastic. I'm stalling lifeproof flooring and using just enough pressure to instal the planks. And no I'm not beating the fire out of it. This first one that chipped, broke, and chipped the plank I was working on, I figured it was my fault. So the next day I purchased another. Now this one also chipped and again a plank was damaged. I'm taking it back for a refund. Very disapointed in this product. When you have to use a hammer to tap a block, at least make sure it's made of a good plastic. And of course Home Depot does not have a quality metal or hard wood tapping block. I'll have to make one myself if I want a good one.
I would not recommend this unless you're installing maybe 20 or less planks. It should last through that many.

This is my first time installing any type of vinyl interlocking floors and let me tell you that this Tapping Block is excellent for the job, I did see videos where they recommend to use a piece of scrap flooring to do the Tapping and I did try it just to compare and let me tell you that the Tapping Block is the perfect tool, it does the job and it does it very good.
