This is a very reasonably priced product compared to other underlayments offered, but this vapor shield is a silicone-coated PAPER product. The title is somewhat deceptive because they call it silicone but leave out the paper part. It is not very strong and is prone to ripping unless you tread with care. Walking on it is just fine, but be careful about twisting your foot or those kinds of things. It is a vapor shield only and provides no cushioning or acoustic attenuation. I didn't measure it with my micrometer but I would estimate its thickness to be about 8 to 10 mils. The manufacturer states they use 6-mil paper which means that it is about twice the thickness of typical 20-pound copier or printer paper which usually runs about 3 mils.

Worked well enough and it was cheaper than most underlayment. It does have a tendency to bunch up and wrinkle. Somehow when we rolled it out and stapled it, it was smooth, but by the time we got to it with the flooring it had expanded and gotten wrinkles.

Easy and clean to use. No way to judge it’s moisture resistance but makes nail down hardwood installation smooth. One issue, instructions are for shiny side up..... took my best shot at what my wife and my idea about shiny side. Both sides are almost the same.

I needed a material that was tough, not slippery and impermeable to wood stain. I covered a worktable with this, paper side up, and stained many pieces of trim over an 8-hour period. The paper surface was totally soaked with dark stain, but none soaked through to the worktable. Perfect!

Great product for the price. Putting it down as a vapor barrier on a concrete floor under a laminate wood floor and underlayment pad.

The product was not what I expected. While it may be great as a vapor barrier it tears much too easy and does not provide the sound proofing that the roofing felt paper provides. I would not use this in the future and would not recommend it over the roofing felt paper. It is much better than the normal paper used by some for underlayment but I would not use this in the future under hardwood flooring.

Easy rollout but hard to get the wrinkles out. Even using the joint tape we had serious wrinkles. The styrofoam vapor. Iayer works 100% better and has its own tape.
