Rust-Oleum Craft Milk Paint - color: Navy This is a craft paint that comes in a quart size plastic jar with a screw on lid (somewhat like a peanut butter jar). The paint is a really nice consistency. Not too thick not to thin. It’s mixes up very nicely. It applies smoothly, but is quite streaky with just one coat and you see a lot more color variation. With this navy color you saw royal blue and navy with just one coat. With two coats, the navy blue color was very even. By design, it can be used to get that paint wash appearance, or you can build it up with multiple layers for a more solid color. Because it is a matte/flat (not glossy) finish, it appears darker when it dries. The navy is a relatively dark navy. The paint has low odor. The craft project we are using this paint for looks great, and we are very happy with this paint.

I am a woodworker and I use real milk paint a lot. This is not real milk paint. Which is kind of a good thing. Real milk paint is kind of difficult to use. It needs to be mixed with water - which causes it to foam so you need to de-foam it. It requires 3 to 4 coats. And it really cannot be applied over existing paints/finishes without some kind of bonding agent added. In addition it needs some kind of finish applied over it (traditionally linseed oil and wax). It's quite an involved process. This is just like latex paint. stir and go. It looks close enough to real milk paint though. A somewhat chalky and flat finish. Super easy to apply and it is fairly durable. I'm going to be on the look out for additional colors. The color dries to a deep Navy blue, but when applied is considerably lighter

Since I've never used a milk paint before, I was interested in checking it out at my local Home Depot Store ,I have to say its wonderful, I chose the Navy, as I was given a well used, desk, that had served someone for a long period of time, there was a hole cut into the back of it, which I repaired, there are little cubbies, for office supplies, a drop down door, after using this paint, which by the way, covered beautifully, after sanding a few areas to give it a worn look, it looks perfect along with other painted item. Great paint!!

I read quite a few reviews on this type of paint and I like what I see from everybody. I've never used this type of paint before and I want to wait till the weather warms up around here because it is too cold to work outside during this time, and the humidity seems way too high. I don't want to take any chances of ruining these coffee tables which we use at our restaurant.

Treat this as craft paint more than regular paint. Has a nice body, goes on and covers well. Several colors, does not smell bad or excessively when using or after it dries. Dries quickly and well, leaving a good finish, which seems tough too, time will tell. Is as non-toxic as paint are after it dries. Not too sure about when it is wet, great assortment of colors, can be mixed together for additional shades. Cleans up easily. Pleased with paint.

There is a lot to like about this product. It shipped well-packaged to prevent against leaking, so no worries about ordering colors not available in store. I also like that it came in a jar with a screw-on lid, rather than a can. I generally store paints in similar recycled plastic containers, so this saved me a step. I was also able to paint comfortably directly from the container as the jar mouth was wide enough to accept a 2.5" paint brush. Initially I was disappointed in the color, as it didn't look like what I would consider navy, but it dries much darker than when it goes on. I had to apply two coats. After one coat, I could still see some of the old color underneath. This may be a desired effect, however, and says as much on the label. The paint dries to a nice matte finish and cleans up easily enough.
