I've used better paint and delivery system is pathetic
I have a 6X10 cargo trailer I use to haul my race bike to race weekends and I use the trailer as a camper when I get there. The trailer was originally black but when you're in 100+ temps with sun beating down on black it gets HOT! The plan was to rattle can it white for the reflective properties and over the winter come back and have it wrapped in team and sponsor livery. The key being you don't want something that won't stick so I looked for a white primer like this so I didn't have to do gray, then a white top coat. I should preface any further comments with the fact I have used rattle cans for primer/base coats on more things that I can remember over the last 3ish decades. It's all about the prep with consistent flow of paint and motion. I've often had people ask me both teach them now I do it or do it for them. Ultimately, it's just patience and not having a poor delivery system. After using 8 of 12 purchased cans, these things become unpredictable once the can reaches half empty. They might spit or not deliver paint at all for a few seconds. I had to take to doing circles which makes the coverage inconsistent. The button pressure needed is quite stiff enough that I went and bought some of those comfort grip caps Rust_Oleum makes which marginally helped. The amount of surface area these 12oz cans will cover is pathetic, the spray pattern is so narrow that you get about 1.5 inch stripe when you're holding about 6 inches away (any closer and you're just going to create a map of rivers from the runs) from the target material and the paint runs consistently runs. These reasons make the coverage pretty pathetic. Just to make sure it wasn't something I was doing differently with my technique that I've honed over the years, I grabbed an older can of "store brand" gray primer I had on the shelf. Granted it was a 15oz can, but it covered more than twice the area of these 12oz cans with no runs and coverage was much better to the point that you couldn't see any discolored areas that I did with this product. Being the narrow things down to find the exact problem kind of guy I am, I turned around and bought a can of dark gray primer from Rust-Oleum and in the defense of this paint, some of the problems are with the nozzle (as you might expect) but some of them are the consistency of the paint sprayed. But on the flip side, the dark gray was actually black. I have 4 more of these cans left that I'm most likely going to throw away. Unless it's something I literally do not care about (why would I be doing it then?) then I won't be using these cans. I really feel that Rust-Oleum has apparently lost its way over the last few years. It's highly unlikely I'll ever buy any more of their paint as this feels kind of like the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.

Please keep in mind Rust-Oleum Automotive Sandable Primer Spray cans cover 10-15 square feet per can. Darker colors may require additional coats to completely cover. We recommend holding the can 12-16 inches from the surface and spray in a steady back and forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can in motion while spraying. Apply 2 more light coats a few minutes apart. Rustoleum

    GOOD PRIMER
This primer covers well. White is a good color for light top coats.

    Goes on well. Dries quickly
I used this self etching primer to prime my 03 Jeep liberty wheels for repainting. For some reason, the original paint started peeling and rusting. After sanding down the wheels with a power drill and wire brush, I cleaned and primed the wheels before painting. It dries pretty quickly, I recoated after about 20 minutes and it coats very nicely. I was very pleased with the results. It was a lot of work and hopefully, I won't have to do this again.
