Rehab of an older deck that did not have any coating. This product extended the stain. It was slick in wet conditions but once covered with the stain, it was fine. Now to see what happens next spring. The project is not quite done but what a difference.
I received this Rust-Oleum Restore Deck Start Wood Primer along with Rust-Oleum Restore 10X. I used the Restore 10X on my back concrete patio so I didn't need the Deck Start for that job. After doing the concrete, my wife I felt that the cedar concrete along with the cedar railing was a bit much.
Our wood railing was stained about 5 years ago when we built our home. I touched up the railing about 1 year ago. I was skeptical about using this without sanding so I purchased a sander. When sanding the rails was taking longer than I expected, I decided to try the Deck Start with sanding. I am happy to say that it worked great. Deck Start reminds me of Elmer's glue. I applied it with a roller and brush. It drys quickly and makes the wood look as if it has a glossy surface. Within a short time, you can apply whatever solid color product you want over it.
This is another good product from Rust Oleum. I used this primer over a solid stain using a roller for good coverage. It went on pretty evenly. It looked milky at first then dried pretty clear with a shine.

Hard to give a good review, seeing I just put it on a few weeks ago. But so far so good, colored stain stuck really good to it and only needed one coat. Hopefully it will stand up to our harsh Michigan winter.
Don't use Restore Deck 2X without first priming with this thick and gooey, glue-like primer. It dries to a clear finish and will extend the coverage of the topcoat. Our old deck looks new after using Deck Start and Restore 2X topcoat.

Primer works great. Only problem is that their deck renew does not stick well to it. We bought the 4x paint and every time it rains, it bubbles in spots and they won't do a thing about it.

That is not what we like to hear! Our Restore Deck Start Wood Primer was specifically designed to improve the adhesion of our Restore coatings to the surface. We need to know more about the application to get to the bottom of this, please give us a call at 800-373-6333, we want to try to make things right.
