PLEASE believe the negative reviews
This product is thin and splotchy. It didn't cover the existing (lighter) paint. Our deck looks like it has been whitewashed. I've never been more disappointed by a product. And the 6x claim is ridiculously false.

Let's see what we can figure out, Kaye. Before Applying RockSolid 6X Deck Coat, the deck must first be cleaned using a deck brush and RockSolid Deck & Patio Cleaner or standard deck cleaner. The surface must be clean and free of dirt, grease, mildew and organic growth. After cleaning, the deck must be primed with RockSolid Deck Start Wood Primer. After priming, apply 6X Deck Coat with the required RockSolid 6X Deck Coat Roller Cover. Following this process, which is including on the labeled directions, will produce a beautiful deck in a single coat. Give us a call at 800-373-6333, so we can hear more about your application and try to make things right.

Agree with other 1 star reviews.
I'll spare you the lengthy disappointing story and just say I agree with all the other one star reviews. This product is a waste of good time, effort, and money. Did not last one season. Literally comes up in sheets as I blow the leaves off my deck. Yard is littered with paint chips. At this point I'm planning on ripping up all the PT wood and laying down Timbertech like I should have done in the first place. Did not meet my expectations in the least.

Let's see what we can figure out, Dan. If the Rust-Oleum RockSolid 6X Deck Coat is not adhering well, then that tells us that there may have been something on the surface preventing it from bonding and drying properly. Don’t Waste Your Time and Energy
We went against our better judgement and ignored the bad reviews, ending up disappointed and frustrated with this product. We painted our deck mid July last year and it looked great for the rest of the summer. Come spring, the deck is completely ruined. We followed all of the directions and used all of the directed products. I don’t see us ever buying a Rust-Oleum product again. Listen to the bad reviews and save yourself the time and money.

Let's see what we can figure out, Kelly. The Rust-Oleum RockSolid 6X Deck Coat is very dependent on the level of surface preparation and application. Terrible Product - Find Something Else
I cleaned and primed the deck with their products and then used the 6X. When it rained the first time after application, a week later, bubbles appeared under the surface. It continues to worsen.

This product ruined my deck. Thousands of dollars to replace everything because the product absolutely sucks and ruined everything it touched. Blistering and peeling less than a week after application. Apparently Home Depot continued to sell after Rustoleum was involved in a huge class action lawsuit regarding this very product. Utter failure on HD’s part to sell this crap product. It’s not like the price of wood if outrageous at the moment or anything.

Waste of Time, Effort and Money
Product is absolute garbage. Followed directions precisely. We had a solid 5 days of warm dry weather after application before our next rain storm. The first rain post application completely ruined my deck. This product bubbled and peeled immediately. Even changed color.

Custom color order, took a while to get but results have been fantastic! Waited through the winter in Iowa to review after a pretty heavy snow year. Even had to shovel out my dog quite a few times. Couldn't be happier! No chipping/peeling or other issues. I do definitely recommend the primer as I think it made a huge difference in how it looks now. Deck was extremely weathered. Pressure washed with cleaner (not theirs), primed and then coated x2. Stuff is thick! buy the 5 gallon paint mixer attachment for your drill for sure. Used a heavy nap roller for the main areas, brush on stairs and trim. It even covered the plastic lattice with no flaking so far this spring.

I cleaned my deck with a power washer and then primed using a roller. I applied the Deck Coat with a 4" brush so I could get it down into all the cracks. The Adobe color came out pinkish, not brown like the web page shows.

Navarro Red, 5 Gal, chipped and scratched after one week.
The deck is 17 years old with lots of cracks. I powerwashed it, sanded it the best I could and painted it last week. The color is gorgeous. I painted 2 coats using a roller. We let it cure for 1 week before putting the chairs and table back. Well while putting the chairs back, we noticed that the paint was chipping and scratching. It shouldn't happen after only one week. it is very thick so it wasn't too easy to apply with the roller. Also, I had painted the rails (white) prior to painting the floor, I splashed a little bit on the deck floor, I didn't bother sanding it off since it was suppsed to cover the white easily, well it doesn't cover well. I applied 2 coats and I had to spot apply some more on the white stains and even after a few more coats, we can still see the white stain under the red. I'm going to have to spot cover all the scratches as it would take too much trouble to sand it off and redo it all. Not happy with the product at all.

That is not what we like to hear! Our RockSolid 6x Deck Coat needs to be applied in a thick, uniform coat using the 9” RockSolid 6X Roller Cover, at a rate of 80 ft² per gallon. When applied at this thickness, the coating should cover previous coatings and colors, while also providing a durable, scratch-resistant finish. We need to know more about the application, size of the deck, and amount that was used to get to the bottom of this. I used this product to paint a 2 sets of Adirondack deck chairs that are 10 or so years old with the wood split and cracked and weathered. I wanted to fill in those cracks. The chairs had never been stained. I pressure washed them first to remove all the dirt and any mildew, and sealed them with Rust-Oleum's RockSolid Deck Start Wood Primer as directed. The first coat of Deck Coat, tinted white, did not cover very well at all in spite of the product's claim of "one coat coverage". The chairs looked like they had been coated with a thin white primer coat only. The product did fill the splits and cracks and checks in the wood nicely, however. Because the paint is 6X thick, my brush stokes were very visible and paint runs and drips were a major problem. While the instructions on the can state to apply the product with their 9" 6X Roller Cover, this would be impossible to do on a set of chairs. The long and short of it is that I had to sand and use a putty knife to remove the runs and drips as best I could and needed to apply a second coat of Deck Coat to get reasonable coverage. I suspect one would have similar problems with drips and runs using it on vertical or angled surfaces, like deck railings, too. The finish dries very flat. "Deck In One Day" - I think not. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this product. I just glad I tried it first on the pair of chairs and not on the whole deck.

Let's talk about this! To ensure proper coverage, we do recommend applying Rust-Oleum RockSolid 6X Deck Coating with the recommend roller to ensure proper coverage and durability. If you didn't have good coverage with the first coat, or you were coating a contrasting surface color, a second coat can be applied without needing to sand or strip the coating.

The color bark, is a nice rich dark brown and the paint is thick. When you start out it looks like it covers well. Unfortunately thick does not mean one coat will do the job. As the paint dries the previous color starts to show through. If this had been a one coat paint I would give it a 5 star rating, but having to paint a second and in some cases a 3rd coat, I give it 2 stars and do not recommend it. I know I won’t use it again.

Oh no, this is not what we expect to hear! To ensure enough Rust-Oleum RockSolid 6X Deck Coating is applied to the surface with one coat, the recommended roller must be used. If the coating is applied too thin, additional coats will be needed for the best coverage.

The color bark was closest to the bunish slate aluminum on our porch. The color is exactly what we wanted. We attributed 6x thick with good coverage, but that is not the case. It is thick but we are not impressed with the coverage. It is easy to work with, rolls and brushed on smooth and thick. While you are working with it you think you have nice coverage, stepping back it all looks good. However as it drys there is no doubt that a second coat is required, and we are not talking about absorption. This paint thinned and separated in areas as it dried. We used it on previously painted surfaces as well as weathered, never painted wood. Oddly enough, this deck paint makes no mention of painting galvanized steel but it does a great one coat job on it. By accident, a steel beam in the carport was hit with the roller and there was no getting that paint off. So, we painted the steel beams. Worked flawlessly and did not need a second coat. Go figure. Do the math for a second coat if you are buying this paint. We bought 5 gallon thinking it would be more than enough for our 360sq', but we need 2 more gallons for the second coat on the deck and railing, what a pain. (only took about a pint to roll out the one coat on the steel beams)

Very disappointed, I used RESTORE 13+ years ago to cover a plywood deck. RESTORE worked great and protected the deck for over 13 years. A few spots were fragmenting and coming off. I scraped up the small amount of loose RESTORE and attempted to put a new layer of of RockSolid. BIG MISTAKE. The RockSolid did not adhere properly and bubbled in several spots (that were primed plywood). I returned the remaining portion of the 5 gal bucket without any fuss from HomeDepot. Thank you. Hopefully Rustoleum will discontinue RockSolid and bring back RESTORE. Please do.

So apparently you can't paint even when it's 90° out and doesn't go below 68 at night if there's humidity above 50%, well guess what it's the Eastern United States in the summertime it's always humid and it's always raining every other day and they tell you you have to have four days without rain for it to dry? And 2 days after it last rain to let the wood dry so basically you can't paint outside even if you cover up your work it's still too humid for it to stick. This paint is wet like water.

Humidity can play a big factor when it comes to drying, Brett. The Rust-Oleum RockSolid 6x Deck Coat will dry slower if the ambient conditions are outside the recommended range. If it rains, that's going to cause a concern with the product setting up properly.
