The paint works fine.Make sure that you mix it with a stirring stick really well because the grainy stuff that makes it work tends to settle at the bottom of the can.

I followed instructions and continuously mixed the magnetic primer and was able to apply 4-5 coats on the wall. I lightly sanded the lumps and thicker parts before applying 2 coats of chalkboard paint. Magnetic chalkboard all ready for future grandchildren!

Let's talk about this, Lou! Three days after applying Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint, the surface must be conditioned by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire surface and erasing. This will leave a coat of chalk dust that will provide the best erasability. If the surface does need to wiped down, we recommend waiting 7 days and then reconditioning the surface.

Go with the spray paint version
The consistency of this is much different than the better spray can version. If you brush it on, prepare to see the lines and streaks easily. If you use a roller, it leaves a grit in the finish, as we'll as dust hairs from the roller. When we tried to write on it dry, the grit is hard to use the chalk on. It leaves the chalk marks inconsistent and leaves chalk residue that is hard to wipe clean. Do your research on this product, not thist the top few featured 5 star reviews....

Thank you for sharing your experience using our Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint. We recommend applying this coating using a 1/4-3/8" nap roller or foam roller designed to provide a smooth finish. Prior to writing on the surface with chalk, the surface must be conditioned by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the surface to ensure easy erasing. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
